She is full-figured, but not to excess -- her body is lithe from a lifetime of swimming. The ancients called her "dark-eyed Amphitrite," and indeed her eyes are a deep shade of brown that could certainly be seen as dark. Her medium length brown hair curls loosely around her face and falls just past her shoulders, when she wears it down. Most often she has it back in a bun for easy maintenance. As a mortal, the clothing she favors is that perpetually fashionable "classic" style, though still loose-fitting so she can move freely. Psychological Personality: The sea, Amphitrite's domain, has always been her greatest comfort and refuge. She is outgoing in the extreme -- having forty-nine sisters doesn't lend itself well to shyness -- and is so used to the company of her sisters or sea-creatures that solitude is almost a foreign concept entirely. As Poseidon's wife and queen of the sea, Amphitrite has faced her share of delicate and challenging situations, giving her a quick mind for solving problems diplomatically. That doesn't mean she doesn't know how to loosen up, for one of her favorite things to do is dance. This love of dancing has carried over into Amphitrite's mortal life, quickly becoming her life's passion alongside marine biology. The sisters were always very eager to assist sailors who were caught in perilous storms, and soon it was common knowledge that the Nereides would provide kind help to any sailor in need. Poseidon first saw Amphitrite as she danced with her sisters at Naxos, and desired to take her as his bride. She refused his advances, wishing to keep her virginity, and instead fled to the other side of the sea and sought shelter with Atlas. A dolphin found her and managed to persuade Amphitrite to wed Poseidon, and for this he was rewarded by the sea god by becoming a constellation of stars. The two were wed. Aphrodite was present at the wedding and gifted Amphitrite with a splendid gem-studded crown fashioned like a garland, the gemstones like roses. Amphitrite bore her husband several children, among them Triton and Rhode. She was also the mother of seals, fish, and dolphins. War: So wrapped up within her underwater realm, Amphitrite didn't notice the changing atmosphere and increasing sense of something huge about to happen until it was about to happen. She left most of the alliances, politics, and other meddlings to her husband to deal with, prefering to watch over her own subjects and remain with her family. When the tension finally boiled over, Amphitrite couldn't help but take notice. She tried to avoid the conflict as much as she could, but in the end she threw her lot in with Zeus and his forces. Ares overreached himself, in her opinion, and she gave all the help she dared give to Zeus. Mortal: The third of eight daughters born to a college professor and a legal secretary in northern California, Claire Rawling very quickly learned how to keep the peace in a house full of women. She and her sisters all began taking dance classes at a very young age, showing a great aptitude for the art. They attended the same school, went to the same dance classes, often shared the same friends (what few they had outside of each other)... after a while, Claire desired something that would be just hers and hers alone. She had always loved the family's visits to the ocean, so swimming seemed the most natural option. After swimming competitively in high school, balancing schoolwork and dancing in addition to it, Claire applied to several colleges with notable marine biology programs. Upon acceptance, she tearfully parted from the supportive parents and sisters/best friends who had been her support net for so long, and headed to school in Florida.
