NICKNAMES: 'Andromeda' as a whole is preferred, but 'Andie' will is a term of endearment by her husband and family. AGE | DOB: 45 | 10 May 1953 HOGWARTS HOUSE | YEAR: Slytherin | 1971 BLOOD STATUS: Pure-blood. RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Married SEXUALITY: Heterosexual OCCUPATION: Healer at St. Mungo's LOCATION: She and Ted are the owners of a home in Kensington, in a small Muggle community FAMILY BACKGROUND: FATHER: Cygnus Black deceased MOTHER: Druella Black (neé Rosier) deceased SIBLINGS: Bellatrix Lestrange, 47 and Narcissa Malfoy, 43. UNCLE: Orion Black deceased AUNT: Walburga Black deceased COUSINS: Sirius Black, 37, and Regulus Black, 36. HUSBAND: Ted Tonks, 46. DAUGHTER: Nymphadora Tonks, 24. As the second daughter of Cygnus and Druella Black, Andromeda always felt she was a bit forgotten. Overshadowed by her older sister, Bellatrix, and not doted on nearly as much as her baby sister, Narcissa, Andromeda found it easy to slip away and enjoy the solitude. She was close with her sisters, and they often played together in relative bliss: Bellatrix was always the queen, Narcissa the princess, and Andromeda got to be whatever she liked in between. Andromeda met Ted Tonks during her internship at St. Mungo's. His bright, vivacious personality lead to a secret relationship that lasted over a year after his release. Ted brought out a freer, happier side to Andromeda that she never knew she had. On her nineteenth birthday, her parents announced an arranged marriage to Evan Rosier. While she may have liked Evan well enough, Andromeda found that she could no longer follow her family's traditional demands. Ted was a Muggleborn, and would never be accepted by her family, and so rather tearfully, Andromeda found herself leaving her childhood and family behind. She and Ted married shortly thereafter, and at 21, gave birth to their only child: Nymphadora. | physical appearance Beauty is a short-lived tyranny. Socrates _______________________________ In many ways the middle child, Andromeda was still a shade in between her sisters in looks. She wasn't as sharp and exotic as Bellatrix, nor was she as elegant and fair and Narcissa. Andromeda was always slightly curvier than either of her sisters, and stood just perfectly between them in height. Her skin is the same pale complexion as her mother's, and always took vigilant care of her skin. Andromeda's hair, too, was a shade in between the dark of Bellatrix and the light of Narcissa. As a child she adored her long locks, and let them fly free whenever possible. As far as her sense of fashion, Andromeda never cared much for frills and fancies. She preferred a relaxed, comfortable outfit that she could move in as much or as little as she liked. She has always favored shades of lavender, and though she may wear dark clothes more often than not, she relishes in accessories. Having been raised in a household that valued pomp and circumstance, Andromeda has carries herself with utmost care. Her posture is straight, her gate not too hurried, and always with a touch of confidence. Though she can be cool and collected, she also has an easy laugh that blossomed around the time she met Ted. She is not as good at hiding her emotions as Narcissa, but nor is she as blatant as Bellatrix. If you catch Andromeda with a smile on her lips it could mean one of two things: she is happy, or she is upset, but doesn't want you to know it. |
personality it's like you're screaming but no one can hear. _______________________________ Personality, the positives, the negatives, strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, things to praise, things to find fault with. Some may not remember Andromeda Black at Hogwarts at all. In much of her youth, she never considered herself to stand out at all. Such was her place within the family: the middle child, and the fear that she was insignificant may have lent itself to spells of darker moods. At first glance, she may appear cold and distant. Her shyness and quietness may come across as icy or even snobbish. Growing up in the shadow of her sisters means that Andromeda is not the type to be outspoken, and so she will not pursue a friendship on her own merit. But pursuing her time is well worth the effort. Warm-hearted, caring, and as loyal as they come, Andromeda is very much the opposite of what her first impression may be. Her work as a healer is very important to her, and she often takes cases a bit too personally. To see someone suffer causes her a great pain and even a sense of failure. She will often spend long hours overtime at St. Mungo's, especially now that Nymphadora is out of the house. It is a comfort to be needed, so St. Mungo's is very much her second home. She is very organized and does not like to 'brush things under the rug.' Because her husband and daughter do not share her affinity for tidiness, Andromeda has become very skilled at household cleaning charms. A trait that she has held on to from her childhood, she believes that one's house is a reflection of what sort of person they are. Andromeda cannot stand to have guests over if the house is the least bit untidy, and to do so may cause her a fair bit of anxiety. Her family is very important to her. Being disowned by the parents that raised her was fairly traumatic for Andromeda, so she keeps her husband and daughter very close to her. She is quick to worry at the slightest indication that something might be wrong, though she tries not to let her fears get the best of her in such a situation. Andromeda is, above all, governed by her mind. She will not rush into action without the chance to consider every possible outcome. While she does recognize her own feelings, she often tries not to let them color her behavior. The downside of her thoughtfulness is that her lengthened decision making can lead to a lack of action. Sometimes she will wait too long to make a choice, leading to a negative result. When playing the garden with her sisters, a neighbor's dog had gotten loose and found it's way onto their property. It must have been attacked by some other animal, because by the time it found the girls he was injured and bleeding. Narcissa ran inside for their father, but Bellatrix and Andromeda stayed with the pup. She can never forget the image of the dog's pained eyes looking up at her as he slowly died. Since then, the thought of a dog has always reminded her of death, and despite regular begging from Dora, Andromeda never let her daughter have one as a pet. ‹‹ While she was pregnant with Nymphadora, Andromeda used to get strange cravings for cheeses at all hours of the night. Gouda, Munster, Goat Cheese, Bleu Cheese, Brie, you name it, she wanted to have it. And often at 3 A.M. If she couldn't have cheese, it was pickles. Pickles and cheese together were a fantastic combination. ‹‹ When her youngest cousin, Regulus Black, was born, eight year old Andromeda got her first lessons in childcare when Walburga Black took ill for a time. Andromeda went with her mother to care for her cousins, and found she rather liked playing with Sirius and keeping him entertained. Some of the messier aspects of motherhood made her nervous or grossed her out, but in the seed for being a mother was planted when she held Regulus in her arms and he pulled at her hair. ‹‹ Because Andromeda was so brokenhearted that her family refused to accept her marriage, Andromeda and Ted were wed in a Muggle court with only a few witnesses. Five years later, Ted surprised her with a small ceremony to renew their vows with as many friends and family present as he could find. There ceremony and party were held near the beach, and Andromeda got to wear flowers in her hair and dress all in white just as she'd always wanted to. ‹‹ When she was fifteen, Andromeda had the biggest crush on the Slytherin Quidditch captain, and she was more than sure that they were destined for marriage, and used to draw their initials in hearts all over her textbooks. She had planned to ask him to the Winter Ball, but Bellatrix beat her to it. Andromeda never again approached a boy to ask him out until she met Ted Tonks. |
biography SHORT QUOTE OR SHORT LYRIC GOES HERE _______________________________ Andromeda was the second failed attempt of three by Druella and Cygnus Black to produce a male heir to the Black family line. Three daughters meant three women that would have to find powerful, rich husbands, and so Druella wasted no time training her daughters to be elegant, refined, and polite. Growing up in the Black family was no picnic, but it wasn't terrible either. Andromeda had two sisters close in age, and they often spent long hours playing together in the gardens. Though they were close, Andromeda often felt overshadowed by her sisters. Bella was the oldest and Cissa was the baby. Bella was Cygnus's favorite, and Druella favored Cissy. Although she suffered terrible spurts of jealousy, Andromeda often enjoyed the lower expectations her parents seemed to have, and enjoyed the opportunity o be her own person. Still, she never strayed far from the family views, and was the model daughter. At a young age, Andromeda and her sisters learned all about magic and etiquette from a governess. This lead to strong grades and aptitude from all three girls during their time at Hogwarts. Each were sorted into Slytherin, and each excelled in their own subjects. Andromeda loved Charms and Potions, and even a bit of Herbology. She was a member of the prestigious Slug Club, and spent much of her spare time in the library. After graduation, Andromeda took up an internship at St. Mungo's, where she shadowed a Healer and began the training process. It was here that she met a young Ted Tonks, injured from a good-natured duel that had left him temporarily without his memories. Though he quickly recovered, Andromeda found that she rather enjoyed having the Muggle-born's company during the course of his stay. After his release, she asked to see him, and a secret relationship was formed. Ted drew out the inner beauty in Andromeda, and for the first time she felt like she really stood out to someone instead of slipping into the background. They met daily when she got out of work. Ted would wait for her by the hospital with flowers, and Andromeda felt like she was walking on clouds. He understood that her family did not approve, and though he hated it, did not pressure her in any way to stand up to them. Talk travels, however, and soon her sister's got wind of the secret affair. When Cygnus found out, he was furious, and threatened to use the Cruciatus Curse on Ted if she was ever caught with him again. Devistated and terrified, Andromeda broke things off with Ted. She tried to explain to him that she loved him and was doing such to protect him, but Ted was too hurt to understand. Life for Andromeda returned to normal, but she was far from happy. On her nineteenth birthday, Andromeda's parents announced that she was to be wed to Evan Rosier. The news came as a crushing blow, as while Andromeda had convinced herself that her time with Ted was over, she was not ready to get married to someone else, especially someone she did not have feelings for. For weeks, Andromeda dwelled on her situation. She knew she would never be happy if she followed her family's wishes and married Evan. She wrote a long, beautiful letter to him, telling him how handsome she found him and that, while she knew he would be a wonderful husband, she simply could not marry him. Immediately after sending the owl, Andromeda went to her parents and told them that she couldn't go through with the marriage, and that she hoped they loved her enough to support her decision. Cygnus slapped her so hard that she nearly fell over, and Andromeda tasted blood in her mouth where she'd bit her cheek. Stunned, she ran to her room. While her family might have assumed that she was taking time to cool off, Andromeda was packing. That night she slipped out the back door, and with only two suitcases of her belongings, she showed up at Ted's door in the pouring rain with apology after apology. Ted let her in, but he couldn't trust her right away. She'd broken his heart once already, how could he just take her back and act like nothing had happened? For the next few weeks, Andromeda lived at the hospital. She had no money, and was terrified. Ted was ever so patient with her, and waited for her every day at the end of their shift. Then went on long walks, and slowly they began to work things out. Eventually word got back to Andromeda that she had been blasted from the family tree. The realization that she no longer existed to her family hit hard, and Andromeda had spent a few hours crying in Ted's arms. It was that night that Ted proposed to her, and though he had no ring, he told her that she would always have a place in his family. The next day, when he waited for her outside of St. Mungo's, he got down on one knee and gave her a very pretty little box with a ring inside. Andromeda and Ted were married in a Muggle court with only Ted's immediate family as witnesses. As a wedding gift, Ted's parents helped the newlyweds to find a house not far from their own. Andromeda finally began to settle into her new lifestyle, and while it was not so frivolous as her time in the Black family, she found that it felt more like home. Not long after their marriage, Andromeda became pregnant. Ted doted on her throughout the pregnancy, and on April 3, 1973, Andromeda gave birth to a beautiful baby girl that she named Nymphadora. Surprising them almost immediately with her talents as a metamorphagus, Nymphadora proved to be quite a handful, and never liked to sit still or be quiet. She had so much energy, in fact, that when Ted suggested the possibility of a second child, Andromeda simply laughed and said she wasn't sure they could handle it. Faster than Andromeda would have liked, Nymphadora grew up and was starting her first year at Hogwarts. Andromeda owled her daughter nearly every day with stories from home, wanting to remain as close to her as possible. She swelled with pride when her daughter graduated and began training as an Auror. Now, if only Nymphadora could find a steady boyfriend, Andromeda would be happy! She doesn't mean to be pushy, but wants her daughter to find a love like she did with Ted. Not to mention, she wouldn't mind some grandkids to spoil. Life now is pretty simple. Still dedicated to her work as a healer, Andromeda leads a fairly steady lifestyle. Once a year, she and Ted take a vacation simply to enjoy their time together. Life is short, why not enjoy it? | |
writing sample Please choose one of the following scenarios and write a 100-250 word first person POV journal entry ‹‹ A particularly vivid dream. [Private] It pains me to even remember, but I had the most terrible dream the other night. I wouldn't write it down, except that I cannot get it out of my head. I can only hope that pen and ink will give it a place to be that isn't the forefront of my thoughts. Ted and I were traveling to the countryside for Dora's wedding. It seemed to be a rather happy affair, and all was beautiful to start. A white tent, flowers, floating candles... everything I could have wanted for my daughter's special day. But when she came down the aisle, and her groom turned around and it was Evan. I haven't seen his face in years, but he looked angrier than I had ever seen him. Evan Rosier He found me in the crowed and screamed at me that because I had denied him, but daughter's body belonged to him. Suddenly, everything was dark and cold. Dogs and wolves surrounded Dora and tore at her clothes. She cried and I tried to get to her, but Evan held me back. And he laughed, this horrible laughter that just chills me to even think about. Before I knew it the wolves were biting her, and I just couldn't handle it. I woke up then, thank goodness, but I hope to never have such a dream again. |
