He was six when he decided he knew what he wanted to do in life. Some kids wanted to run away and join the circus. Con wanted to run away and join the Air Force. Despite parents who were very firmly anti-military, Con knew he wanted to be a pilot, and flying a commercial jet was just not going to cut it. His parents, figuring that he'd grow out of it eventually, left it alone. Until he applied for, and got, an AFROTC scholarship, at which point they said a lot of very unkind things about the military and himself and cut off communication with him. Con continued on with his plans, eventually attaining his goal, and becoming a pilot in the 61st fighter wing. He's followed his squadron since and is now stationed at Macdill, in Florida. Incredibly closed-mouthed about anything personal, anything else about himself and his past is kept very private. His life was nice and uneventful until the Alliance came calling. Mal promptly volunteered for the independent army (the Browncoats) and fought in the Unification War as a sergeant. After the independents lost, Mal drifted for a while, before taking on the ship that would be named Serenity. He the promptly became a smuggler, a thief, a killer and a captain. The ship was his home, the crew was his family, and he reveled in the ability to (quietly) stick it to the Alliance whenever possible. Or not so quietly, as one escapade ended in the revealing of one of the Alliance's best kept secrets.
