Psychological
Personality: Demeter feels things deeply and often, to great extremes. Generally, she is a kind and warm goddess; the typical earth mother who promotes peace and joyfulness. Bubbly and bright, she is effervescent... most of the times. Should someone insult Demeter or cause injury, the goddess has no qualms about avenging the wrong that was done those she considers hers. Like most mothers, Demeter takes offenses to her children quite seriously. This includes not only her biological children but the earth as well. She is not one for confrontation though and prefers to solve issues through non-violent means. When faced with violence against herself, she is skittish, preferring to find safety in anyway she could. Demeter is the flower child, small and peace-loving and would look to Zeus (pre-Kore's abduction) for protection, guidance, approval and love.

Biographical
Myth: Second daughter of Rhea and Cronus, Demeter was swallowed by her father just as her siblings were until freed by Zeus. It was to him that she bore her favorite child, Persephone, before his marriage to Hera, who Demeter knew would make a much better wife and queen for the god.

Kore, as Persephone was known at first, was the goddess' greatest treasure. Demeter took the girl far from Olympus and doted heavily on her while keeping her safe and removed from those who would wish to take her away; much like a child with a favorite doll. She was unwilling - or simply, unable - to share her love of her baby. This selfishness, however, would ultimately cause her to lose Kore.

At the wedding of Harmonia to Cadmus, Demeter lured Iasion to a thrice-plowed field - an affair that eventually resulted in the conception of two sons, Ploutos and Philomelos. However, after the drunken couple returned to the wedding festivities, Zeus discovered mud on Demeter's backside and promptly killed Iasion with a lightning bolt in a fit of jealousy. This earned Zeus Demeter's wrath which simmered until after the twins were born at which time Demeter forgave her brother.

However, the worst offense came when, without Demeter's knowledge, Zeus promised Kore to Hades. After her daughter went missing while picking flowers, Demeter wandered about in search of her for nine days, without taking any nectar or ambrosia, and without bathing. On the tenth she met Hecate, who told her that she had heard the cries of Kore, but did not know who had carried her off. Both then hastened to Helios, who revealed to them that Hades had been the ravisher, and with the consent of Zeus. Demeter, in her anger at this news, avoided Olympus and dwelt upon earth among men, conferring presents and blessings wherever she was kindly received, and severely punishing those who repulsed her or did not receive her gifts with proper reverence.

During this period, having taken the form of an old woman called Doso in her wanderings, Demeter received a hospitable welcome from Celeus, the King of Eleusis. He asked her to nurse his sons Demophon and Triptolemus. As a gift to Celeus, because of his hospitality, Demeter planned to make Demophon as a god, by coating and anointing him with ambrosia, breathing gently upon him while holding him in her arms and bosom, and making him immortal by burning his mortal spirit away in the family hearth every night. She put him in the fire at night like an ember without the knowledge of his parents. However, Demeter was unable to complete the ritual because his mother Metanira walked in and saw her son in the fire then screamed in fright. This angered Demeter, who lamented that foolish mortals do not understand the concept and ritual. Instead of making Demophon immortal, Demeter chose to teach Triptolemus the art of agriculture and, from him, the rest of Greece learned to plant and reap crops. He flew across the land on a winged chariot and educated the whole of Greece in the art of agriculture. Later, Triptolemus taught Lyncus, King of the Scythians the arts of agriculture but he refused to teach it to his people and then tried to murder Triptolemus. Demeter turned him into a lynx as a result.

To add to her troubles, during her search for Kore, Demeter attracted the attention of her brother Poseidon, Lord of the Sea. She resisted him, but she could not disguise her divinity among the horses of King Onkios as her brother countered her transformation into a mare by becoming a stallion and raping her. In her shame, Demeter hid in a cave until giving birth to a daughter, Despoina and Arion, an extremely swift immortal horse that was also endowed with speech. It was at this time that Pan, roaming from mountain to mountain as he hunted, came to Mount Elaios and spied Demeter. Zeus learnt this from Pan, and sent the Moirai to Demeter, who listened to the Moirai and moderated her grief. However, still angry with her brother, Demeter refused to ever allow anything to grow along the ocean's edge.

As the goddess continued in her angerand produced famine on the earth by not allowing the fields to produce any fruit, Zeus, anxious that the race of mortals should not become extinct, sent Iris to induce Demeter to return to Olympus. But it was in vain. At length Zeus sent out all the gods of Olympus to conciliate her by entreaties and presents; but she vowed not to return to Olympus, nor to restore the fertility of the earth, till she had seen her daughter again. Zeus accordingly sent Hermes into the Underworld to fetch back Kore. Hades consented to Kore returning, but gave her a part of a pomegranate to eat, in order that she might not always remain with Demeter. Hermes then took her in Hades' chariot to Eleusis to her mother, to whom, after a hearty welcome, she related her fate. At Eleusis both were joined by Hecate, who henceforth remained the attendant and companion of Kore, now called Persephone. Zeus then sent their mother Rhea to persuade Demeter to return to Olympus, and also granted that Persephone should spend only a part of the year (the winter) in subterraneous darkness, and that during the rest of the year she should remain with her mother.

Another of Demeter's lovers was Karmanor. She bore him a son Euboulos, god of ploughing, and Khrysothemis, goddess of the harvest.

However, Demeter was not always such a loving woman. Her anger was wrath was quite well known. She placed Aethon, the god of famine, in Erysichton's stomach, making him permanently famished as punishment for cutting down trees in her sacred grove. Askalabos was transformed into a spotted gecko by Demeter as punishment for mocking the goddess' ravenous drinking of meal as she rested during the search for her daughter. And Kolontas was burnt up within his house as punishment for driving Demeter away when she sought his hospitality in the search for her daughter.

Demeter was played a part in several festivals, however, what exactly happened during said events remains a highly guarded secret.

War: Detesting violence, Demeter spent the majority of the Coup in her fields, tending to her flowers until Zeus' side fell and she, with the rest of the gods, was imprisoned in Tartarus.

Mortal: From farm girl to healthy-living empress, Chloe embodies the American dream. Born into a low-income family who produced much of their own food on a little farm in Anderson, Texas, she learned the importance of hard work at an early age. Milking the cows, collecting eggs, and yes, even tending to bees for honey helped keep her, her two older brothers, baby sister and parents fed as well as clothed and sheltered. She had a good hand with handling horses as well, though she would most often times only tend to the mares and geldings, foregoing any interaction with the stallions. However, Chloe's real love was gardening. Flowers seemed to bloom in every plot of land she touched. Her green thumb resulted in a record number of prize-winning fruits and vegetables at the county fairs each and every year she participated.

Her love of the earth became a career choice as she grew. A little stand on the highway blossomed into an all natural produce store then morphed yet again into a chain of supermarkets all geared toward green living and production. No pesticides. No chemicals. Only tender love and care went into creating her stock. In college, Chloe majored in nutrition and health sciences and through her roommate, became of student of yoga, aerobics and pilates while picking up occasional business, botony and meteorology classes on the side.

Over time, Chloe's business grew, absorbing health clubs, restaurants, spas... even cosmetic companies until it had reached an epic size. And everything was completely natural and green. Healthy living was sweeping the nation and the little spunky cowgirl was holding the reins. From the east coast to the west, people were investing in Chloe's stocks, reading her cookbooks and sipping her herbal brews.

However, not everything is perfect in Chloe's life. Because of her intense focus on her career, she's sacrificed, so far, a family of her own. Chloe's greatest desire is to settle down with a husband and a child... or at least a child. The marriage thing she's tried twice and the only good to come from each was her inspiration to think bigger with her career from the first and the funds to do it from the second. She knows she would make a great mother, if only she had the time for it. One of her biggest vices is that she is slightly obsessed about dying her hair; since Chloe was little, she'd wanted to be blonde. Now that she can afford constant touch ups and high-end processes, she refuses to go back to the mousy brown she was born with. Also, along the way, she picked up the habit of smoking marijuana when particularly stressed, though she has worked hard to keep that aspect out of her public image.
