{lack of trust}
Faith is completely bored. She hates having to pretend but the Mayor had been strict about it. He needs to know what Buffy and her pathetic band of losers are up to and what they know. And since they still trust Faith, And even though she's certain that they suspect she's on the other side, she reluctantly agrees to go. It's not as if she has anything better to do, especially since the Mayor has a vampire following her around. A vampire who will rat her out if she decides to go the Fish Tank for beer and dancing.
The Scooby meeting is a boring and stupid as she had thought it would be. She wants to shout at them, to tell them to wake up, to tell them that there's no time for teenage angst or make out sessions or partying at the Bronze. But she's firmly on the Mayor's side. And Faith's pretty certain that the Mayor wouldn't think it was sporting of her (or some other such nonsense) if she got them all riled up.
She learns that they're pretty much wandering around in the dark, completely clueless of what's to come. Faith doubts that Xander and Willow are good enough actors to deceive her. Giles, Buffy and Angel could probably pull it off. Especially if they kept her ineffectual Watcher out of the loop.
Eventually it's time to leave. She has to go pretend to patrol with Buffy. Maybe she can go slay her vampire babysitter. The Mayor will believe she had no choice if she's with Buffy. Before she can head out, her Watcher pulls her aside for a word. Faith stands in front of him, her arms folded over her chest. She just wants this to be over with.
"I went by your room to check in on you Faith," Wesley tells her.
"So?" Faith asks.
He looks at her with disappointment on his face and she wants to punch him. She reigns in her temper and arches an eyebrow at him.
"I was told that you had checked out," Wesley tells her.
"I guess you could call it that," Faith flatly says.
"What would you call it then?"
Faith decides quickly what she will tell him. She needs to be careful since the Mayor is providing her with room and board. There's also the fact that she doesn't like the fact that he just thought it'd be okay for him to check up on her. She doesn't want him to start taking pointers from Giles on how to be a good Watcher.
"It doesn't really matter, I'm not saying at that dive anymore," Faith tells him.
"Where are you staying Faith?" Wesley firmly asks. "As your Watcher, I should be aware of where you are at all times."
Faith gives him a smirk before she turns everything on it's side.
"You sure that's proper protocol English?" Faith asks. "Or are you just wanting something more from me? Got an itch that Cordelia won't scratch for you."
Wesley turns an ugly shade of red and stammers. Anyone with eyes can see how he's been making puppy eyes at the cheerleader.
"Save it English, I am making do and finding a safe place to sleep most nights," Faith tells him, driving home the final nail in the conversation. "It's not the like the Council gives me an allowance so I make do with what I have."
She spins on her heel and moves towards Buffy's who giggling at something inane that Xander has said.
"Ready B to go slay some vamps?" Faith asks with a smile that she shoots over at Angel.
It's a warning and a promise directed at the vampire. Faith doesn't really care about his whole back story or all that garbage. In her eyes, a vamp's a vamp. A good Slayer should be indiscriminate when it comes to slaying them. But Sunnydale is some sort of opposite land where vamps like Angel get to go about their lives all carefree and the Slayer that lets them live gets praised for it. Angel is one of many reasons why Faith doesn't have too many qualms about siding with the Mayor.
Buffy hesitates before she nods at Faith. And that hesitation is telling. It tells Faith all that she needs to know. And it makes her feel relief. She won't have to deal with the perfect Slayer and her little merry band of idiots for much longer. Faith will try to pry whatever she can out from Buffy and then that's it. If Buffy suspects her enough to not trust her, then it's dangerous for her to keep coming to these boring meetings.
