At school, Rick (as he prefers to be called) slacked off all the time, working hard only at making up excuses as to why he hadn't worked, then soon became known for his...unique lateral thinking. He left school as soon as he could. He moved away from home when his parents began trying to get him to see someone about his "problem" and has only seen them a few times since. After moving into the Tampa area, Rick went to a community college to make new friends and connections. When he'd had enough of that, he graduated in a hurry and pretty much moved into the nearest bar. He'd realised that bars were where people did the important things in life, like finding people to sleep with and drinking - and it also was the place people went to when they need something done. Rick got into the trade for the adventure and thrill - and money, now that he's been cut off from his family fortunes - and also some other reason known only to him. He's been in the business for many years now so knows the right people and the "right" way to get things done. He is able to get off the island since some rum runners had their stash there. On his return to Port Royale, he meet Elizabeth Swann, followed closely by Will Turner - completely by accident - and is soon arrested and condemned to death by hanging for being a pirate and...not getting away in time. Then, to his advantage, Elizabeth was all stupid and got herself captured by the cursed crew of the Black Pearl, and Will freed him in order to rescue her. Lots of stuff happens, and Jack ends up with command of the Pearl again, having killed Barbossa and lifted the curse - but also ends up being arrested. Again. This time, Will frees him before he...takes a dive into the waters of Port Royale and sails away on the Pearl. The last anyone heard of Captain Jack Sparrow was at the end of his hunt for Davey Jone's heart in order to free himself from a deal he'd made. It was, however, a lot more complicated than he'd first thought it would be as Will and Elizabeth turn back up again, much to his dismay. As they're trying to get away from Jone's pet Kraken, Elizabeth distracts him, cuffs him to the Black Pearl and leaves him to be eaten.
