Penny can!

I got back from my island vacation a couple of weeks ago, but hiatus doldrums have put the kibosch on my posting anything. Basically, it all boils down to this: What I Did on My Spring Vacation )

I hadn't really been inspired to post until I was emailed the link to this today: Jersey Shore transcripts as read by actors from Oscar Wilde's Importance of Being Earnest )
YOU'RE WELCOME. WHO SAYS PEOPLE NO LONGER MAKE GREAT ART?

I caught up on my shows in three days, though pretty much the only thing that aired during my absence was a bunch of reality shows. And The Good Wife, for some reason. My reactions, in short:

Top Chef )

Survivor )

Extreme Couponing )

The Amazing Race )

Cougar Town )

I can't believe there's only one more episode of The Good Wife left! And it's not for another two weeks! I watched the preview and OMG! <lj-cut text="Spoil yourself at will.> Peter! Moved to his own apartment! Actual repercussions and Alicia -- *gasp* -- NOT forgiving him for his swinish behavior! It's like Christmas in season finale form! The one thing I feared about the whole Kalinda/Peter thing was that Alicia would put all the blame on Kalinda and forgive Peter again (I hate it when women blame the other woman instead of, you know, THE GUY WHO ACTUALLY MADE PROMISES TO THEM TO STAY FAITHFUL). Of course, with Alicia I can totally understand her having issues with Kalinda now too, but at least in her case it will hopefully be grounded in the fact that Kalinda withheld this vital information that would have impacted her marriage and their friendship. And yet, I can totally see why Kalinda wouldn't say anything. In the beginning there would be no reason. And in a new friendship there is such a thing as too much honesty. I think where Kalinda went wrong was when they whole thing floated up to the surface and instead of facing the music, she tried to bury it even further. Nothing good ever comes of that. I just really hope that Kalinda and Alicia's friendship survives this storm. And that Peter and Alicia's marriage doesn't. </lj-cut>

Today is the day

I finally filed my tax return today, and barring any problems, should have a refund coming my way in about a month and a half. And I'm considering spending some of it on the exact same thing I splurged on with my last tax refund: an eReader. Since buying the first one about a year ago I've read about as many books as I did in the six-seven years before that combined. So I definintely consider it a worthwhile investment. And the one I have my eye on has the exact features I was looking for last year: touchscreen and 16 level grayscale, with the additional feature of wifi. And BeBook even has their own rebranded version (is it bad that I almost want to buy the BeBook rebrand just because I think the splash screen is so much prettier?)

GOING TO SEE IRON MAN 2 IN LESS THAN THREE HOURS! Woohoo! I haven't been this excited about seeing a movie in a long time. I just hope my high expectations don't lead to a big letdown if the movie doesn't live up to the original.

Since I decided against watching Modern Family this season, naturally I'm now translating it. NATURALLY. Because god is punishing me (god being my boss, of course). My biggest contention with the show was Phil, but I have to say I'm pretty okay with it anyway. I mean, I'm getting paid to watch it, so having to suffer through Phil isn't as bad as it could have been. (Just from the pilot, he ranked right up there with Michael Scott as embarrassing characters I couldn't stand to watch. And while the other episodes - I'm up to 1x03 - haven't been as bad, I'm pretty sure I could grow to loathe him.)

I'm a little surprised that it's labeled a mockumentary at Wikipedia, though. It doesn't feel at all as a mockumentary except for the talking heads they do. I haven't made it far into the series, but does the mockumentary format become more prominent at some point?

I have almost no TV to talk about because all I'm doing right now is reading regency period romance novels and watching Kdrama(s) recommended by [info]typicrobots. Some of what I've watched since my last TV post:

The Good Wife )

Project Runway - finale )

The Amazing Race )

Glee )

I hardly post anymore, but I still feel like I'm much more active on LJ than I've been for a while now since I post daily to [info]acapaday. I often have that sudden inspiration of posting about something, but then I always think that that one thing isn't enough and can never think of another subject to post about and then I just give up on the whole idea. I'm not sure why I have that block, I used to post about just about anything, just about any time I felt like it.

The Buffy comics fandom revival has made me want to talk about Buffy again. But not the comics. )

On a final note: Dreamhost moved my site to a new server this morning with hardly any notice, and while the only difference I've noticed has been that it's become much zippier, there may be issues somewhere that I'm not finding. If you see something amiss, can you let me know (this goes double for you, [info]bellanut and [info]typicrobots)?

my baby shot me down

Numbered lists seem to be the best way to get back into the groove of things:

  1. I finished Chuck season 2. )

  2. I got my eReader yesterday, and even though I've only used it for a day, I already love it to death. I don't think I can ever go back to reading (long) fic on my computer again.

  3. This Strawberry Spinach Salad sounds really yummy. I'm going to have to try that some day.

  4. I uploaded some new icons to my Scrapbook.

  5. TAR finished another season. )

  6. I've had to take a few people off my reading filter because of spoilers, and I'm thinking of doing an flist cut. I mean, sure, it's just reaction spoilers, but just because you don't care about the show anymore (or love it so much you can't wait to Tell. Everyone. About. It), that doesn't mean I want to know. Though it seems silly to cut people right when TV is going into hybernation for the summer.

  7. Comedies are not making me dance with joy right now. The Office. ) The Big Bang Theory. ) HIMYM. )

  8. Everyone squeeing about Star Trek has made me dying to go see it, even though I think I've only watched one full episode of any of the franchises (a TNG episode where they go back in time? Or something?) Good job, flist!

  9. I'm taking the first week of June off and I can't wait! The best part is that it's vacation days I've saved from last year, so I still have five weeks of vacation coming to me after that. I'm going to try to find a cheap last minute trip to somewhere around the Mediterranean, and if that falls through, I'm going to redecorate my bedroom. Either way? So much win!

  10. Hi, Laura! =)

Odd number says we walk away now

I meant to post this icon meme over a week ago. Um, oops? MEME! )

The Amazing Race )

Project Runway Canada )

Last Friday, when I was on the way to the subway, A & B Song came on my mp3 player, and I was seized by this unstoppable wave of nostalgia, and I knew I had to start up my Farscape rewatch again (I had just finished season 2 when I took a break...um, six months ago or so). But first I had to rewatch the vid that made me have the Farscape flashback and I'd forgotten something: I think it's all wrong )

Apr. 5th, 2009

I eschew daily updates for mega-long posts no one in their right mind has the patience to read

The personal stuff. )

I joined [info]farscaperewatch, but the one-episode-a-week thing probably won't work for me. I mean, that's almost two years! I'll have rewatched the show a couple of times by then. But I did figure it'll be fun to follow along since I was never in the fandom the first time around. I'll probably pick up my last rewatch where I left off, at the beginning of season 3, instead.

In other TV news:

Dollhouse )

Castle )

Project Runway Canada )

The Amazing Race )

How I Met Your Mother )

Southland )

Everyone and their mother posted about The Sarah Connor Chronicles this weekend, and since I haven't seen a single episode since the season premiere, I thought I'd make that the next show I catch up on.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time on this icon considering how simple it is. And it's still not right! But I'm past the point of caring. So I uploaded the new stuff to my Scrapbook.

Dec. 8th, 2008

I've become (re-)obsessed with online games. Mostly puzzle games. Some of my favorites from the past few weeks:

  • Word Bubbles. Not at all a puzzle game, but a word game. [info]poshcat linked it last week or so, and I've been playing it daily since. I LOVE THIS ONE.

  • Atomica. This is a lot like Clines (which came in real handy when my internet was down at work the other day).

  • Tower Builder. I was obsessed with this one a month or so ago.

So, anyone got any online game recs? Time-waster recs, if you will.

So, [info]dianora2 had this meme.
1. Post about something that made you happy today even if it's just a small thing.
2. Do this every day for a week without fail.
3. Tag 8 of your friends to do the same.

Happy Day 1: I set up my new work computer today, and thanks to the replies in my last post, it worked like a charm! Oh my god, having all my passwords, my extensions, my Clippings, my autofills right there at my fingertips in a few seconds flat? HEAVENLY. And then I spent the afternoon translating The Office (season 1), and watching/proof reading Dead Like Me and Monk. It was a pretty damn good work day, let me tell you. The boss even brought in some pastry for the afternoon coffee tea break. =)

I'm not tagging anyone, this is more to force myself to post every day for 7 days straight. Let's see if I can keep it up!

Some TV:

TAR )

Billable Hours season 1 )

Of the two comedies about mean people I've been watching lately, I have to say, I prefer It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia )

Nov. 26th, 2008

This is turning into a bad habit

Question!

Does anyone know of a Firefox extension that saves all your extensions, passwords, etc, either into a file, or somewhere online? I could have sworn I found somthing like that a year or so ago, but right now I can't even think of what search terms to use.

I'd just really like to make getting a new work computer as painless as possible.

Tissa linked Stickies and I'm already in love. For the longest time, I haven't been using any type of paper to take notes, and my memory just isn't up to storing all this short-term info I've got to retain for an hour, a day or a week. I've tried Google Notebook, but opening a web site is just too work-intensive for something as simple as writing down a phone number. This application is just perfect.

I'm making to do lists all the time, saving often-used text (not the ones I use online, though, I've got Clippings for that), and I think I'm even going to start making post-its for birthdays, since there's a "sleep" function that means you can have a post-it appear yearly, or monthly, or weekly. There are also alarms and all kinds of other fun stuff.

Here's a chicken-or-egg conundrum for you: Am I feeling lacklustre about TV right now because I don't have time to focus on it because work is sucking up all my time, or is TV actually lacklustre and thus leading to me getting even more caught up in work than I otherwise would? Who knows, but I can't say anything's wowing me right now. I have a few things to say about TAR and Life, though. )

Also, I am an episode and a half away from finishing my complete rewatch of The West Wing, and I have thoughts. )

Life and life

My job is taking its toll on me. )

So I'm too exhausted to do anything but watch TV Oh, the irony! (Spoilers for Life, HIMYM, The Office, Fringe, My Own Worst Enemy, Pushing Daisies and The Amazing Race. )
