Nicole Edme Sheridan was born on the 24th of February 2004 to Marie Sheridan, in New York City. As a product of a broken household, where her mother was the subject of frequent beatings from her husband, though he was sure never to beat her face. It was when Marie decided to have an affair with a man named Kirill Mikhailov; a ruthless and murderous member of the Russia mafia Mikhailovs. As a result, Marie became pregnant, with her husband knowing it was not his own that caused the beatings to worsen. For six years, Nicole grew up knowing nothing but the violence and drugs and alcoholism her father reveled in, never suspecting the criminal dealings that took place there.

Also around this time, Nicole had been kidnapped by a man that her father owed money to, and as payment raped her. Haunted by the assault, ashamed, stripped of her sense of safety and security; Nicole became a quiet and withdrawn child.

A week after Nicole's eleventh birthday, a man barged in to the Sheridan household during dinner and shot her father, and mother, sparing Nicole. The hit came from a disgruntled client of her father's, whom felt that he had been cheated out of his deal. Nicole's biological father passed the order along with a modification that the sister is spared, Kirill (referring to Marie). But the gunman confused Marie with Nicole and so Nicole was spared; however, once Kirill discovered that Nicole was in fact his own child, he did his best to love her and tried to protect her from the violence of his world.

He failed.

Her sense of the world as a violent place only grew when, in her early teens, Nicole joined her family at a cousin's wedding and witnessed the murder of her entire family by a rival mob. She alone survived by playing dead. Terrified that she too would be killed when her family's murderers learned that she had survived, Nicole turned to her Uncle Rossi Salvatore (mother's side) and his son, Stephen. It was her cousin whom had trained her in martial arts and the use of the crossbow and throwing knives. To protect herself, to avenge her family, Nicole created the identity of the Lynx. Nicole was weak, frightened, a child who could not defend herself. The Lynx was strong, brave, and to be feared. The Lynx discovered who had ordered the Sheridan family's execution, and it was after that event that she was able to gain the revenge she had sought for so long.

With her family's murderers dead, Nicole tried to retire her Lynx role, but was continually drawn back: the innocent needed protecting; criminals needed to be stopped. However, with her own demons - fear, guilt, shame, anger - would not be laid to rest. Initially, she was compassionate, the Lynx became more ruthless and violent, a creature of the night who possessed a primal sense of justice: protect the innocent and hurt those who hurt you. The Lynx came more and more to dominate her existence, while Nicole Sheridan slipped further and further into the background.

It wasn’t until a year after the war between the Geist and the Aerophagytes that she met a man by the name of Benjamin Lazar. In the past, he had unknowingly teamed up with her when she was under the guise of Lynx. That one evening of fighting side-by-side proved that they had made a formidable team; but it was something that wouldn’t last due to the fact that she developed feelings for him. During the war with the extra-terrestrials’, however, the two had been forced together once again since they along with others were fighting to survive; and it was during that experience that she was forced to reveal herself to him when he had been seriously injured.

The war over, secret revealed, and emotions flaring – she and Benjamin married and had a son. Even though she was attracted to her life as Lynx, Nicole had managed to place aside that life for the sake of her family fearing that her role as the vigilante would eventually claim her life.

Now in her new role as wife and mother, Nicole attempts her hand at a somewhat normal life; but with her son fighting against their wishes and struggling to prove himself to her, that he is capable of moonlighting as a hero himself, Nicole finds that trying to ignore Lynx is proving to be difficult – especially she was already forced into the mantle once again to safe his life.
