Personals Name; Danielle Moonstar Codename; Mirage Reg Number; X2-9990 Age; 17 Status; Soldier Occupation; Trainee in the facility Sexual Orientation; Heterosexual Race; Native American (Cheyenne)
Stats Height; 5'8" Weight; 125 lbs. Eye Color; Dark brown Hair Color; Dark brown/Black Marks of Significance?; The barcode on the back of her neck and a birthmark shaped like a crescent moon on her left shoulder
Attributes Mutation; Dani's abilties combine both empathy and psionic energy. Her principal power is to create three-dimensional images of things from within the minds of herself or other people. This talent allows her to manifest a person's emotions as realistic illusions. At first, this always happened against both her will and the wills of all other people involved when she did it. But, she has learned to control it in a better fashion, to the point where her ability extends past just fears into a person's desires and emotions. She can also take the emotional impressions and residual thoughts left over in a place and project an illusion of something that happened in that area.
Her secondary ability is the ability to communicate with animals. This ability is quasi-telepathic and it allows her to form a rapport with higher animals such as horses, primates, canines, felines and avians. Dani can sense their emotions like she would those of a human being as well as perceive images in their minds. To an extent, she can also see through their eyes as she would see through her own. This ability is not as sharpened as her primary ability as it doesn't have as much practical use in battle.
Power Level; Alpha Skills/Talents; Dani can speak the language of the Cheyenne fluently in 2 different dialects. She also has a recently discovered talent for drawing and painting.
Biographicals Personality; Danielle is a very kind and gentle person. She has always been very down to earth. This is partly because of her deep connection with her Cheyenne Indian culture. She firmly believes in caring for and respecting Mother Earth and helping your fellow man. This she displays in her manner of speaking and her actions. In no way is she brash or blunt and she speaks to people with only kindness in her words, even if they do not treat her so nicely back. Dani is also protective of those she cares for. If someone she loves is in danger, she will do what she can to help them. The kindness and gentleness can likely disappear in these instances so that she can do what she needs to do to protect the ones she cares about. So really, she is a beautiful rose on the outside and in, but she still has the thorns that go with the blossom. Dani is perceptive to her surroundings to an extent and is also intelligent. Though she is kind, she doesn’t allow people to take advantage of her.
She enjoys reading and teaching others. Educating those who wish to learn about her culture is something she likes as well. With these likes comes an open mind. She is accepting of a lot of things many people normally aren’t. In her eyes, these things are merely misunderstood by others.
Dani’s fears revolve mainly around her illusions. She has projected illusions of her own fears as well as the fears of others. She hopes to gain as much control over them as humanly (or superhumanly) possible, so she doesn’t have to cause other people pain by accident. Seeing one’s deepest fears projected in front of you surely takes a toll and Dani doesn’t enjoy inflicting this on people, though it seems that is her purpose in life now.
History; Times were hard. Anyone with eyes to see could have told you that. A country that most had perceived as a world power before was reduced to almost third-world status. The majority of the population was living in terrible poverty, barely able to make ends meet for their families. It was a horrible time to live in, but what choice did the people have? It was the way the world had been fated to be. Somehow, they would have to make the best of it. Though, many didn't have the optimism the government had about rebuilding the country and making it better. It was hard to look forward to what had a chance of being a better future. But there weren't any guarantees to that fact. There was still the chance that things could take a turn for the worse. Still, it might have been easier to hope that things would get better.
For the Moonstars, optimism was the only thing that kept them going from day to day. William and Peg were better off than most couples at the time, but not by much. They still had their small house in Boulder, Colorado in a community of other Native Americans in the city. Including Peg's father, Black Eagle, as he was called. It was a quaint way to live, but not so terrible as some others in the country. They were able to provide for themselves for the most part, but they did becom concerned when Peg discovered that she was pregnant. The two were concerned about raising a baby in that day and age, but they were far to pleased at the thought of having a child of their own. Nine months later, their daughter was born. She helped to put a shine on her parents seemingly bleak world with her smiling eyes and playful laughter. She was named Danielle, but always affectionately referred to as Dani.
For four years they raised Dani as best they could, trying to keep her as in touch with her Cheyenne Indian heritage as possible. It was the one thing her parents wanted to instill in her, so she could carry it along with her for the rest of her life. She was taught to love nature and to respect the other children of the earth. Some might expect that a girl so young wouldn't easily grasp the education of her heritage in such a way, but it was one of the things that Dani clung to the most. She loved who she was, to be part of something that went all the way back to the beginnings of America. She took well to the various parts of her culture, eager to learn any new things her family would teach her. It all caused her to be a very kind, gentle and down to earth child. Something that her parents thought was refreshing to see.
But it seemed the happy family wasn't destined to be together forever. Fate always had a way of ruining things that seemed so perfect.
A little bit after Dani turned four her parents were killed in a tragic car accident. Their car had been run into by a tractor trailer carrying gasoline. Inevitably, the wreck had gone up in flames, killing her parents and the truck driver instantly. Her grandfather was left to explain it to the little girl, saying that her parents had "gone away to a better place, one where they wouldn't have to worry anymore". It didn't sink in with her at first, until it clicked that Mommy and Daddy were never coming home again. After the funeral, Dani was sent to live with her grandfather. But, he was old, far too old to really be caring for a child. He didn't know what to do, but he searched for something that would end up being the best thing for Danielle.
That alternative came in the form of the X-GENE project. They were always looking for more children to test on and they assured that the children would be treated well. Black Eagle thought that a life in their facility would be better than having Dani be an orphan when it was his time to die. So, he gave the small girl over, though with a heavy heart. Dani was taken to the facility, having been tested first and accepted into the program. She was injected with the X-gene and then placed under observation to see how her body would react and what sort of abilities could manifest.
Her ability came through shakily at first, but it was apparent that when around the people observing her that things were happening. To begin with, it was only faint glimpses of things. Three dimensional illusions of things that they identified as the fears of people around her. Their conclusion was that her ability was empathic in origin. She could manifest people's fears into realistic illusions. This ability progressed fairly rapidly and soon it was not only fears, but emotions and desires as well.
Through much training, her abilities sharpened and became more and more honed. Her illusions no longer happened against her will. She grew to have more control over them and to find further uses for them. For example, she could also derive illusions from residual thought and emotional impressions left over in an area. This was mostly tested through having her replicate spars trainees would have with their teachers. Danielle's training did not only involve honing her mutation, however. She was taught to fight hand-to-hand and how to use weapons. After all, her future and her purpose all revolved around protecting America in its current state.
Dani grew up in the environment of the facility with the other people who were like her. People who had been brought there as children and accepted into the program. It was an unconventional sort of family, but it was family nonetheless. Besides, what else was out there for them? They were all told the same thing about life outside the facility all the time. America had been ravaged by war and that life inside the compound was better than any life they could lead outside of the facility's walls. Though their lives there were somewhat harsh, she tried her best to be happy. It was strange to her that anyone would want to leave and risk life outside, but people did attempt leaving. Most of the attempts failed.
But there was the one that did get away. The explosion had shaken the facility and everyone in it and Dani was among the group of all the soldiers who had flocked to the scene. The ones who had escaped hadn't been brought back. Dani, and the rest who remained, were told to try and forget about them. It was their loss if they wanted to try and brave life outside. Dani, for one, wondered why they had left. The facility might not have been the greatest, but it was the only life that she had known and remembered. She would be happy there, even if it did take an effort in doing so.
