Description: As a goddess, Nike is six feet tall, with long, billowing red hair and wings to carry her swiftly to battle. She's athletic, strong, and carries herself with confidence. Her eyes are blue, glowing with the confidence that she will be victorious and her skin is tanned from her pursuits out of doors. She looks remarkably similar in this human incarnation, minus the wings. Psychological Personality: Nike is bold, brave, and confident. She is a fighter in every sense of the word, one of the reasons that she serves as a guard for the throne. She feels no fear as she faces down a threat, because she knows that in the end, she will emerge victorious. And as a close companion of Athena, she ends up in battle quite frequently. She not only doesn't mind this, she loves it, enjoying the challenge of facing off in life or death struggles against a worthy adversary. Nike loves to laugh, and she loves to play. She is quite a tomboy, always enjoying besting her brothers in sporting competitions. On those occasions when she doesn't win in these competitions, she is good natured about her losses, often because she knows she lost on purpose, the other contestant needing the victory more. Her close association with Athena also means she's developed a hint of a scholarly side. Mostly this is so she can be victorious in games of words, not because of any true love of learning. She feels driven, though, to be confident with any weapon on any field, and with the Gods, who live forever, words are often the sharpest and most cutting of blades. Nike and her siblings all became described as attendants of Zeus when his cult gained the position of the dominant deity of the Greek pantheon. According to classical (later) myth, Styx brought them to Zeus when the god was assembling allies for the Titan War against the older deities. Nike assumed the role of the divine charioteer, a role in which she often is portrayed in Classical Greek art. Nike is seen with wings in most statues and paintings, the reason for this, is to remind people that victory is fleeting. Nike was a very close acquaintance of Athena, Goddess of wisdom, although there were no references for specific stories pertaining to their friendship. I would be open to plotting some with other players, though, if it were to have a bearing on the game. War: Before the Coup of Cronus: Nike is one of the goddesses who persisted in the minds of the people through the classical age as an embodiment, if not as a goddess to be appeased. She watched causes and wars and empires come and go, and shook her head even as she continued to drink and game with her siblings and friends on Olympus, their powers seeming to fade in the endless days. During the Coup: The coup. Yes. This coup was devastating to Nike not only as a Goddess, but on a personal level as well. For the first time, she had thrown in her lot with everything she had, fought with every trick, and still... lost. A she had since her father had taken her to Zeus as a guard, she had fought at the Thunder God's side against the usurper. And lost. Perhaps as the coup continued, as the battle ground on and on and the other side took the upper hand, her sense of self began to slip. And once that happened, the other side won. Oh, maybe not immediately. But she blames herself for the loss. If she'd only been stronger. Better. Like she had been, back in the golden age, then the coup wouldn't have been successful. After all, she was Victory! But she was defeated. She blames Phobos for this. When her companions faltered, she began to fear that she would not be able to bring them through to victory, and as her fear grew, so did their defeat. If he hadn't put the fear in her heart, the coward, then Zeus would still be on his throne and she wouldn't be a failure.... Mortal: Biography: Ginny was born in London in the heat of summer to Daniel and Sabine St. Croix. She had what she thought was a normal enough childhood. Her father was a barrister, and her mother a socialite. They had plenty of friends and plenty of money to enjoy their lives. Though not of the classes of extreme wealth, Ginny grew up with all of the material things a child could want, and the emotional ones, too. Her parents were supportive and loving, and they encouraged her to pursue her dreams. Of course, had they realized that her dreams were in sports and not in attending Uni, they might have been a bit less supportive. Still, once she finished her secondary school, she tried out for, and made a spot on, one of the girl's football teams. It was semi-professional, but they did get some coverage, and soon Ginny became one of their stars. Though her parents continued to worry about her finding her way in the world as a female-football-player, they saw she was happy and left it at that. After her second season, she was scouted by one of the professional girls teams trying to break into a wider arenas and get away from the stigma of female athletics, and lept at the chance to play professionally. The team is based in Athens. She dreams of playing for England in the next Olympics.
