Embarrassed by the black mark his father put on the highly respected Selwynn name, Cordelia's father embraced the more popular attitude of being accepting of muggleborns. Some small hint of his learned prejudice showed in his choice of wife - a young woman from a respectable pureblood family - but he otherwise embraced diversity and tolerance. Cordelia's mother was a healer and taught Cordelia the importance of compassion. Cordelia's sorting at Hogwarts took some time before she was eventually sorted into Slytherin house. Neither of her parents had been sorted into Slytherin, though her former Death Eater grandfather had, which made Cordelia mindful of making a good impression from first year onwards. Though she worked to be the best in as many things as she could, Cordelia discovered she lacked talent on a broom and decided that working hard to become proficient at quidditch would be a waste of her time when she could focus on academic subjects. Though her academic record was not perfect, Cordelia managed to make a good enough impression on the Professors at Hogwarts to get a Prefect badge before the beginning of her fifth year. She did well in her classes and followed school rules most of the time. Most of her infractions were minor things like talking in class or being late because she overslept. Personality: Cordelia expects the best out of herself. Some of this is due to a perfectionist streak, and some of it is personal pride. Though she has pride in her family name, she believes that pride in oneself is more important than being proud of a lineage one had no personal control over. She expects herself to dress tidily, be well-groomed, and to achieve the best marks possible. Cordelia also expects the best out of herself in terms of behaviour. She believes in the concept of noble obligation - nobility imposes obligation. She possesses charm confidence, generosity of spirit, wisdom and poise. Cordelia is also very ambitious and independent. She wants to earn everything that she has through her own merits and not through her lineage or family wealth. When Cordelia is achieving the results that she wants, she can be very generous toward others. She's more than willing to help someone who is struggling with a subject she is strong in. When Cordelia is not getting the results that she wants, however, she can be quite moody, withdrawn, and downright obsessive about analyzing every little mistake she made. Although Cordelia can be genuinely helpful and generous, she still wants to be noticed for it. It's not as worth the effort if it doesn't benefit her reputation in at least some small way. Appearance: Cordelia has a petite, compact build. She is 5'1" and weighs one hundred pounds. Her hair is blonde and usually worn a little past her shoulders. She keeps it well-combed and straight. Cordelia prefers to wear light colors - she's quite fond of pastels. Cordelia dresses fashionably but modestly. She isn't interested in showing off excessive amounts of skin and prefers clothing that leaves something to the imagination. Cordelia carries herself with confidence, determination and class. She is a lady, and it shows even when she's wearing casual clothing. Cordelia's eyes are a bluish-grey color.
