Instead, she found herself in law school, putting her supremely good bullshitting and storytelling skills to great use. In her spare time, she told her friends' fortunes, became involved in some of the New Age clubs on the campus and completely fell in love with the idea of owning her own New Age shop. Her parents, obviously, were not at all thrilled with this idea, especially with her sister doing so well in the fire service. They wanted her to do good for the community and all the rest of it. Eri, however, had never really been all that good at following orders. She graduated, promised her parents she would look into finding a law firm to start working for, bought a small shop in Tampa to be near her sister and made arrangements for the move. She hasn't told Flick or Con she's moved there yet. She often wonders how well they're going to take the news of her career choice. Past Background Occupation: Saving the world, prophicised to be "destined to bring about the end of destiny." Education: Taught by the professors and scholars of Oxford, looking to going into a girls' boarding school and onto St. Sophia's College. Activities: Running wild, not studying, climbing rooftops, sneaking around. Home: Jordan College, Oxford Finance: Comfortable History: Lyra spent most of her life thinking that she was orphaned when her parents were killed in an accident. She grew up at Jordan College in Oxford, running half-wild, schooled by the professors and scholars when they could catch her, paid for by her uncle, Lord Asriel. When she was eleven, however, things changed. Her best friend, Roger, a kitchen boy from the college, went missing and Lyra, determined to find him, tried everything to be able to go to the North. She was taken from the college by Mrs Coulter, a lady who seemed wonderful at first glance. Before leaving, however, the Master of the college gives her an alethiometer, telling her she should never let anyone know of it. After arriving in London with Mrs Coulter, however, things start to not go the way Lyra planned. Instead of staying there, Lyra runs away and ends up meeting up with the gyptians who used to go by Oxford a lot and goes with them up North. During the journey, she learns that her parents are actually Mrs Coulter and Lord Asriel, learns how to read the alethiometer, meets the Witches, helps Iorek Byrnison reclaim his throne (and is given the name of Silvertongue in the process) and then follows her father into another world after the death of Roger. With only Pantalaimon at her side, she sets out to find out more about "Dust" and learn why adults seem to be so bothered by it. Along the way, she meets Will Parry, a hard-headed boy with an unfortunate history and ends up falling in love with him. Together, they learn more about Dust, the war starting around the world(s) and about love. They bring an end to death by leading the ghosts from the underworld and, together, stop the catastrophic destruction of Dust in the great abyss, putting the world back into harmony again. They discover, however, that the windows that Will's knife opens is what lets Dust through and what creates the frightening spectres who feed off the souls of adults, just after they realise they're in love. Because they cannot live in each other's worlds without growing old and dying before their time, they agree that, whatever happens, they would sit in the same place in both worlds (the Oxford Botanic Gardens) and just remember each other on Midsummer's Night every year. With a tearful goodbye, they part ways to build a future in their own worlds. Lyra is offered a place at the girls' boarding school in Oxford and a chance to further her education at St. Sophia's women's college to learn to read the alethiometer again (a skill that she's somehow lost). Her story hasn't ended but, for the time being, that's all that's been written.
