Personality: There are not that many surprises when it comes to dealing with Pride - his overflowing self-confidence and natural charm translates quite easily to narcissistic arrogance. A picture-worthy smile can transform into irate frustration in the blink of an eye - after all, no one really enjoys having to deal with incompetence and idiocy, let alone on a frequent basis.
Dante is one of those celebrities who couldn't give two cents about giving to charity, adopting a deformed, neglected child from halfway across the world, and while he has millions of fans worldwide, enjoying having fans does not necessarily mean enjoying having to deal with them - especially when the bulk of these fans are rabid, deprived young women wanting to marry him or offer him their firstborns.
Like most of his fellow celebrities, Pride spends most of his non-working days in his mansion in Beverly Hills. He does own other properties, like the penthouse in Manhattan, and where the filming goes, he follows. He can be demanding at times - Patience is a Virtue, but thankfully Pride is a Sin - but surprisingly he can be easy to work with, especially when he is in a good mood. He is as fickle as anyone else; his behaviour most likely contributes to the stereotypes formed around the well-to-do, but he does not have to be difficult to deal with 24/7 in order to be a Sin.
Whether it be on the big screen or on the covers of GQ or gossip magazines, a lot of people have seen Pride in action. The limelight certainly helps to feed his ego, and being surrounded and working with the rich and famous certainly keeps Pride well-fed and happy.
Only one entity tops him, and thus when Satan isn't around, Pride runs his own show and makes his own life. Hell's a playground, but the living world is an all-you-can-eat buffet - there would be plenty of time for fun and games when the feast is over.
History: Pride is, according to the Christian (in particular, Catholic) faith, one of the seven cardinal sins, along with Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Sloth and Wrath. Although nowhere in the Bible are all seven sins listed explicitly, Pride is mentioned in Pro 6:17 as a characteristic undesirable to God. Distinctions between 'major' and 'minor' sins are also not made in the Bible, but these man-made concepts have nonetheless gained popularity through the centuries and resulted in the personification of the Sins.
Pride is commonly viewed as the original and most severe of the seven, both in religious as well as in theatrical and more contemporary contexts. Whether the other six sins are derived from Pride or not is irrelevant given their deification; though it certainly does feed his ego (not that he needs more spurring on) when such claims are made.
As the Catholic church originated and became popular in its beginnings in Rome, Pride, too, spent much of his early years there in the early ADs. He had taken countless shapes and forms across both sexes for these past two millennia, and in this incarnation Pride found himself in Hollywood where pride, glory and a few thousand cameras come together in a chaotic industry.
It is not his first time in America - after the Middle Ages, Pride first awakened in San Francisco Bay in the early 19th century, when literature surrounding the Spanish Inquisition was written by, published by and became very popular with Americans, and has stayed in North America since. With the States continuing to be the major player in popular culture as well as the impact it has on the world, there is no reason for Pride to be moving out anytime soon.
