To understand me you would need to understand where I come from. Who you are is not your past but instead something that you stem from to grow into the person you are. My name is Travis Dean Bennett, I'm thirty years old and like most men totally incapable of healthy relationships with women. While there is one that I have tried to stick my neck out for time and time again, in the end it's easier to string along the meaningless once that play into the game of dating or the ideal of friends with benefits. Hate me all you want, but it's the truth and I challenge anyone to argue it with merit that we all want to be wanted but fear to be needed. This all comes down to the fact I have been smoking way too much pot lately. All right on with this break down of me. My father was a famous performance artist that toured the world in the 60s-70s along with my Mom, my brother and me. My mother is a singer and spoken word poet. She can find the beauty in the most unusual places. Despair and delight mix and match in a balanced view of the world. Much to my grandfather's disappointment my father was a rather radical type of character. You see Grandpa Bennett went into business in the late forties where her inherited a golf club resort here in Chicago. The Four Greens club as been in my family for many generations. My brother and I had to work there during our summer breaks, though I enjoyed it more than most. The golf scholarship I was awarded because of it was more than worth it. I was a music major so I've been classically trained in piano, bass guitar and voice. Still the preppy life didn't give me the fulfilment I was looking for.
The love for for all things wet and wild just pulled on my heart strings more so than my grandfather's puppet strings ever could. So I took some start up from my working summers, my parents flamboyant nature, and my uncle's business strategy and opened a tattoo shop downtown. I've always had a taste for the ink and growing up the way I did, it wasn't a far stretch to build up a client list. Out of all the confusion from living one side of life to another this is the corner of my mind I feel most at ease with. I like going into work with the sunset and coming out at sunrise. The music blaring all night, mostly friends lounging around on the sofas in the shop in the show room. Flash covering the walls like a intricate paint job. Most recent addition, the stripper pole with mirrors, that comes in handy when we are having a slow night. If you're not getting inked up at one of the stations we've got the back room. What happens there you have to be "family" to find out. The computer at the front desk where we google random shit and you'll find the suicide girls under favorites.
There is life outside of work though, even a basket case like me needs a night out every now and then. That's when we go to Uncle Levi's club, just outside of town he wants you to feel total separation from the world when you walk in the door. My dad's brother thinks you are only as old as you feel so in dog years he acts younger than me, the baby of the family. My brother helps keep the bar while Levi djs and every so often they will play a set on the stage. It's a nice place to mellow out and not worry if you paid your sneeze insurance this month or not.
