| Bio: | ![]() Character Information Name: Windchaser True Name: Ellie Tranter Gender:Female Age: 26 Birthday: 27/10/1994 Greatest Ambition: Right now, survival works Physical Description: Ellie is 5’3, and black. Hard physical labour and martial arts have kept her lean in earlier times, but recent hardships have pushed her close to skinniness. Her dark eyes and quick smile often speak of withheld mirth. Ellie is pretty but not beautiful and considers herself far removed from either. She dresses as well as she can in these sparse times, but always dresses for comfort and use rather than to impress. Distinguishing Marks: Tattoo of a sunburst on her right shoulder Sexual Orientation: Straight Single or taken: Single Best friend: Doesn’t really have one, self reliance based on her past. Personality: Quick to laugh, but not to judge, she tries hard to get along with everyone, but doesn’t always succeed. She’s a very caring person and skilled with the sick, and/or depressed. Has darker moments and a hard edge that has enabled her to survive, but prefers to be around people. Personal History: Ellie grew up in Texas, her family worked hard, but regularly encountered racism, which made her father, Alex, believe they had to work harder than everyone else to achieve the same ends. He attempted to drum that ethic into his children. The youngest of three, her brother and sister both went into law, and when Ellie expressed an interest in the medical profession it was assumed by her father she was to be a doctor. When she told him she wanted to be a nurse, her father was deeply disappointed and angry. A rift emerged in the family, with Ellie, firmly on her own, on one side of it. It was never properly healed prior to her leaving home to begin her training with no backing from her family. Ellie worked her way through her training, mostly waiting on tables, and though hardened by the actions of her family she adapted well and did well in her studies as well as becoming a valued and well liked member of her team. Though she would never admit it she looked forward to the short and covert visits made to her by her mother, Jordan, and sister, Annette. Her mother always expressed pride in her choice and her strength in leaving the family to follow it, but could never bring herself to support her youngest daughter openly. This always hurt. After leaving home Ellie never saw her brother, Shaun again, and her father only once, when he arrived to haul off her mother and sister for ‘crossing the lines’ to come and see Ellie. After completing her studies, Ellie moved to Colorado, into a job with the Reyes family, caring for the mother of the family, after she was paralysed following an accident. Ellie loved this family and bonded particularly with the son Allejandro, who chose to spend a large amount of time with his mother and by proxy with her. As their friendship strengthened he taught her how to ride and vastly improved her Spanish. She grew to really care about him, more than she felt she should, given that he was a member of a patient’s family, and so never spoke of it.When Rosa Hernandez chose to die at home Ellie backed her completely, respecting her need for dignity. When the Ans virus hit Ellie was loathe to leave the Reyes family, and did so only when her mother called to inform her of her father’s death. Before leaving the ranch she came close to telling Allejandro how she felt, but realised it was now too late. She was much older than him and would probably not survive, though she swore to herself she would return to the ranch if she did. When she returned home, she found her mother and sister (her sister being 30) already dead and twenty seven year old Shaun long gone. She buried their bodies, cursing herself for moving so far away. She will always carry a degree of guilt for their deaths, even though logic tells her she could have done nothing. After the burials of her family, she moved through the city she was born in, checking on friends and helping where she could, becoming increasingly glad of her grasp of Spanish and the kick boxing classes she took in college. She hoped that now in spite of everything, her father might have been proud. She is still unsure of how she survived this period of her life, so is simply thankful that she did. Eventually she returned to the Reyes ranch in Colorado, and was devastated to discover a burnt out ruin and the body of Maria. She buried her employer with as much respect as she had her own mother, and conducted a brief search for Allejandro’s body. Finding nothing she still entertains a faint hope that he may be alive. Ellie has spent the rest of her time moving between Tribes offering what limited medical care she can given the conditions she’s had to work in, but it’s not easy moving between tribes, and while she has made allies in some reactions in others have made her pull her guard back up, so she’ll only trust you if she already knows you, or if she has reason to. Whenever she finds one she will pick up or barter for medical texts, hoping to expand her skills as far as possible, even forgoing the chance to trade food for her skills if she considers the text important enough. Her regular and rapid movement between tribes, apparently not searching for anyone or anything in particular has earned her the name ‘Windchaser’ and she embraces it proudly. They had simply needed someone who knew what they were doing, and she had been there. She was not officially trained as a midwife, but this was the third life she had bought into this world, and she was proud of it, not that it would ever balance out the number of people she’d buried or attempted to ease the suffering of while they died. It also meant she would eat and have somewhere relatively safe to sleep tonight, though when it came to the birth of a child she would have offered her skills even if they could have offered nothing in return. For Ellie this was a strength and also a weakness, as when she entered somewhere where there was someone in need she could often leave, more tired and hungry than she entered with nothing but gratitude as her reward. For her, more often than not, that was reward enough. She thought back to her first birth. She had been inexperienced and shaking with fear, but the mother had been worse. ‘Luck’ the head of the tribe had heard of her on his travels and had sent people to search for her. He had been overjoyed when she had been found and when both mother and baby survived, he offered her a permanent place in his tribe. She had refused sighting the phrase, ‘I go where the wind takes me’. Thus Luck had christened her Windchaser, and the child Spirit of the Wind. She had never referred to herself as Ellie since. She smiled slightly as she remembered the reasoning given by Perna, the child’s mother ‘So the wind might always be here.’ Thus she had formed her first alliance based on her skill. She still moved on. She was jerked from her reverie by the head of this small tribe, the child’s father, who offered his thanks. She waved it away, and looked upon the child, another little life she had helped to begin. The offers of provisions poured in, but at least by now people knew better than to ask her to stay. She accepted around half of what they offered having accessed how much these people could actually manage to give. ‘Babies always make people go over the top’ she thought wryly, before accepting one night to sleep of the excursion of her days work and to give her horse somewhere to rest. They all knew she would stay no longer. | |||||||||
