Standing at 5’7”, her body is tight and slender but ample and feminine where it needs to be. Her body was made for running long distances with ease and to glide through the water that she loves dearly. Many think that she would pay the price and not have a feminine looking body, but genetics were kind on that part. With beautiful platinum blonde hair that goes down to the middle of her back and eyes the color of aquamarine, Melanie catches the eyes of many admires but she mostly ignores them due to them only seeing her for external beauty and not what is on who inside. Melanie has smooth and beautiful skin that anyone would die for, mostly because it stays this way without taking much care of it. Her pale skin has a silver luminosity to it, causing it to shimmer in the light and it has a soft and feminine glow to it. ![]() Personality: Do not let her soft and gentle features fool; beneath the mortal exterior that has been placed upon her, Artemis is as much a caged beast like any woman. She is able to speak her mind freely, but the manners that were taught to her often keep her quiet on the outside when she is screaming on the inside. This doesn’t mean that she won’t yell and put on a good fight; it is a warning for when someone provokes her enough to have her act out, they better be running as far as their legs can carry them. Artemis also has a keen eye, though it may not look like it, but she is watching everything around her. Being a huntress at heart, it is hard to push aside these quirks behind you – even when one is not on a hunt; they still use these techniques in everyday life. She can be spoiled at times and wants everything to go her way – and if it doesn’t she has not been a stranger to throwing a temper tantrum. As a fiercely independent woman, she feels that she doesn’t need a man to be a better woman. It bothers her to hear a woman talking about how she is incomplete without a man and that all they could ever do in life is serve a man; to worship him as a God. Despite the aggressive and assertive part of her, Artemis has a gentle heart. This is geared towards nature and the gifts that it has to offer, as well as those who are young and in need of being protected from the harsh world. When it comes to animals she is very protective and becomes more than livid at unnecessary animal abuse. This might be contradictory because she loves the hunt, but it must be done in a respectful manner and done in areas specified for hunting. With this said Artemis loves the outdoors and tries to get out into it when she can get the free time – this showing the tomboy that can show itself when she is trying to be more lady like. With such a big heart and willingness to protect others, Artemis is very naive and people will use her because of her willingness to help. This often gets her into trouble when all the work has been put upon her and she is unable to finish whatever it was that the group of people she was with was assigned. Being so willing to help and be there for people makes it easy for people to hurt her – though she man act like she is strong and doesn’t need anyone there for her, the truth is that she needs someone who knows her a little too well and will push her into being more open about how she’s feeling. She is a very selfless person and will listen to what other people have to say and not require anything in return. Mind you, if you have gotten on her bad side, this may not apply for you and she can be cold as ice. When they say, never judge a book by its cover, Artemis needs to remember this. As first impressions speak louder than a drill sergeant yelling at a new victim, she often holds onto that first impression and is unwilling to let anything else change how she has preceded that person. This has been a downfall for her, since she has met many great people, but she disliked them greatly upon first meeting. As a natural protectress, Artemis has a penchant of being protective, sometimes even a little too protective to the point that she can be considered ‘possessive’. She means well and her heart’s in the right place, but all she knows is to react aggressively and impulsively when it comes to others, especially those the loves and cares about, being hurt and being hurt herself. Past Relationships: Just a few things here and there from high school and college, nothing worth mentioning. Likes: Dislikes: ![]() Myth: Various conflicting accounts are given in Greek mythology of the birth of Artemis and her twin brother, Apollo. All accounts agree, however, that she is the daughter of Zeus and Leto. An account by Callimachus has it that Hera forbade Leto to give birth on either terra firma (the mainland) or on an island. Hera was angry with Zeus, her husband, because he had impregnated Leto. But the island of Delos (or Ortygia in the Homeric Hymn of Artemis) disobeyed Hera, and Leto gave birth there. In one legend, Artemis was born one day before her brother Apollo. Her mother gave birth to her on the island of Ortygia, then, almost immediately after her birth, she helped her mother to cross the straits over to Delos, where she then delivered Apollo. The childhood of Artemis is not embodied in any surviving myth: the Iliad reduced the figure of the dread goddess in a girl, who, having been thrashed by Hera, climbs weeping into the lap of Zeus. A poem of Callimachus – the goddess “who amuses herself on mountains with archery” – imagines some charming vignettes: at three years old, Artemis asked her father, Zeus, while sitting on his knee, to grand her six wishes. Her first wish was to remain chaste for eternity, and never be conflicted by marriage. She then asked for lop-eared hounds, stags to lead her chariot, and nymphs to be her hunting companions, 60 from the river and 20 from the ocean. Also, she asked for a silver bow like her brother Apollo. He granted her wishes. All of her companions remained virgins, and Artemis guarded her own chastity closely. She was once bathing in a vale on Mount Cithaeron, when the Theban prince and hunter Actaeon stumbled across her. He hid in the bushes and spied on her as she continued to bathe; she was enraged to the discovery of the spy; and turned him into a stag which was pursued and killed by his own hounds. Some say that he had boasted that he was a better hunter than she and Artemis turned him into a stag and he was eaten by his hounds. Artemis killed Adonis out of revenge. Adonis had been a favorite of Aphrodite, and Aphrodite was responsible for the death of Hippolytus, who had been a favorite of Artemis. Therefore Artemis killed Adonis to revenge Hippolytus’s death. Orion was a hunting companion of the goddess Artemis. In some versions of his history he was killed by Artemis, while in others he was killed by a scorpion sent by Gaia. In some versions, Orion tried to rape Opis, a follower of hers, and she killed him. In a version by Artus, Orion took hold of Artemis’ robe and she killed him in self-defense. In yet another version, Apollo sent the scorpion. According to Hyginus Artemis once loved Orion, but was tricked into killing him by her brother Apollo, who was protective over his sister’s maidenhood. Daughter of Lycaon, King of Arcadia, she was one of Artemis’ hunting attendants. As a companion of Artemis, Callisto took a vow of chastity. Zeus appeared to her disguised as Artemis, or in some stories Apollo, gained her confidence, then took advantage of her (or raped). As a result of this encounter she conceived a son, Arcas. Enraged Hera or Artemis (some accounts say both) turned her into a bear. Arcas almost killed the bear, but Zeus stopped him just in time. Out of pity, Zeus placed Callisto the bear into the heavens, thus the origin of Callisto the bear as a constellation. Some say that he placed both Arcas and Callisto into the heavens as bears, forming the Ursa Minor and Ursa Major constellations. Artemis punished Agamemnon after he killed a sacred stag in a sacred grove and boasted that he was a better hunter. When the Greek fleet was preparing at Aulis to depart for Troy to begin the Trojan War, Artemis becalmed the winds. The seer Calchis advised Agamemnon that the only way to appease Artemis was to sacrifice his daughter Iphigenia. In some version, the sacrifice goes through as planned (with Agamemnon killing his daughter), and the act results in his own death at the hands of his wife Clytemnestra and her lover, Aegisthus. In another version, Artemis snatches Iphigenia from the altar and substitutes a deer. Iphigenia is then transported to the Crimea and appointed as priestess in the goddess's Tauric temple, where strangers were offered as human sacrifice. A Queen of Thebes and wife of Amphion, Niobe boasted of her superiority to Leto because while she had fourteen children (Niobids), seven boys and seven girls, Leto had only one of each. When Artemis and Apollo heard this impiety, Apollo killed her sons as they practiced athletics, and Artemis shot her daughters, who died instantly without a sound. Apollo and Artemis used poisoned arrows to kill them, though according to some versions two of the Niobids were spared, one boy and one girl. Amphion, at the sight of his dead sons, killed himself. A devastated Niobe and her remaining children were turned to stone by Artemis as they wept. Some myths say that their tears, which still flowed from their stone eyes, formed the river Achelous. The gods themselves entombed them. The Gigantes Otus and Ephialtes were sons of Poseidon. They were so strong that nothing could harm them. One night, as they slept, Gaea whispered to them, that since they were so strong, they should be the rulers of Olympus. They built a mountain as tall as Mt. Olympus, and then demanded that the gods surrender, and that Artemis and Hera become their wives. The gods fought back, but couldn't harm them. The sons even managed to kidnap Ares and hold him in a jar for thirteen months. Artemis later changed herself into a deer and ran between them. The Aloadae, not wanting her to get away because they were eager huntsmen, each threw their javelin and simultaneously killed each other. After the death of Meleager, Artemis turned his grieving sisters, the Meleagrids into guineafowl that Artemis loved very much. Artemis killed Chione for becoming too proud and vain after having an affair with Apollo. Artemis saved the infant Atalanta from dying of exposure after her father abandoned her. She sent a female bear to suckle the baby, who was then raised by hunters. But she later sent a bear to hurt Atalanta because people said Atalanta was a better hunter. This is in some stories. Among other adventures, Atalanta participated in the hunt for the Calydonian Boar, which Artemis had sent to destroy Calydon because King Oeneus had forgotten her at the harvest sacrifices. In the hunt, Atalanta drew the first blood, and was awarded the prize of the skin. She hung it in a sacred grove at Tegea as a dedication to Artemis. Artemis may have been represented as a supporter of Troy because her brother Apollo was the patron god of the city and she herself was widely worshipped in western Anatolia in historical time. In the Iliad she came to blows with Hera, when the divine allies of the Greeks and Trojans engaged each other in conflict. Hera struck Artemis on the ears with her own quiver, causing the arrows to fall out. As Artemis fled crying to Zeus, Leto gathered up the bow and arrows which had fallen out of the quiver. Before the Coup of Cronus: Artemis was engulfed by the hunt and the forests that she had often hunted in along with her nymph companions. At times she would be on Olympus with the others, but she spent most of her time with the wilderness. During the Coup: Like her brother and much of her family, Artemis sided with her father and fought alongside him - like many others, her efforts were in vein as the Titans and traitors were victorious. She was also imprisoned and freed by Rhea’s hand. Mortal: Artemis was reborn as Melanie Emma Bradshaw in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She was fifth child, seventh if you counted the casualties of the two previous births, and first girl of Steve and Mary Bradshaw. Before Melanie was born, her mother was going to have twins, one was male and the other was female. They were growing perfectly and the doctors didn’t see any complications in the pregnancies, but a few weeks before the due date something went wrong and Mary lost both of the children. Devastated by the loss of their children, Steve and Mary gave up on having children and were determined to be content with the four rambunctious boys that they had. Mary was unaware that she was with child until she went in for surgery and they were unable to perform it. Because of the previous births, Mary was put on bed rest and things were to be monitored weekly. As long as they were able to get the baby to 20-26 weeks, then they would be able to remove it prematurely without many complications. To the disbelief of many, Mary was able to see the pregnancy out and have a natural birth with Melanie. Living just outside the capital of Victoria, Australia Melanie’s parents owned a small animal rehabilitation facility. They took in any and all animals that were being abused and needed a place to stay until they were able to be relocated to the appropriate facilities. There were a few animals that her parents kept due to the possibility that they would be put down if moved or placed into the wrong hands once more. Along those animals were a few exotic ones that Melanie liked the best, mostly because not every kid could go to school and say that they had a Siberian tiger living in their backyard or a baby elephant. Though most animals didn’t stay long with them, she still did her best to help out when her parents would let her. Being exposed to these animals at a young age woke something up in the girl and she developed a passionate love for wildlife. Though their family had the animal rehabilitation facility, they lived just a little above middle class but not quite upper-middle class. A lot of the time they relied on donations from generous people to help them with the animals. At a very young age, before she can remember, Artemis often woke up with terrible nightmares. Ones that had her crying and screaming as she still slept, demanding for help and for someone to free her. These happened once or twice a year as a young child, but as she got older they started to become more and more frequent. At times she would have them three times as week and others she would have them once or twice a month. She had gone to several people to get help and an understanding of these nightmares, but no one was able to help her; mainly because she refused to be treated with medication. Melanie graduated in the top ten percent of her high school class, received scholarships from several universities for dance, track and field, swimming, and tennis. She was two years younger than most of the people that she graduated with, so it gave her an advantage with getting a lot of work out of the way. With Australian colleges as well as several ones come abroad, Melanie did her research and found the right one for her – it was in Victoria none the less. La Trobe University offered everything that she needed to get her undergraduate things out of the way, not to mention classes in environmental and animals studies. Melanie now has bachelors in animal sciences and environmental studies; Melanie also has a minor in history. With her bachelors out of the way and wanting to take some time off from school before working on her masters, Melanie thought that she would travel around and see the world – especially the place that has been calling to her. She may even find a university in Athens that would help further her career along. Disclaimer This journal is part of a game, and not affiliated with the Grecian gods and goddesses in any way.
