short song lyric or quote APPEARANCE SONG LYRIC OR QUOTE HERE Beatrice is the child of two immigrant parents, one of Filipino descent and the other of Mexican-American. She likes to think she got the best of both worlds. Sometimes she gets a little confused about just who she is since she doens't feel Asian enough or Mexican enough to fit in with either crowd, but socio-culture issues aside, she is usually quite pleased with her looks. From her Filipino half she inherited her mother's cute as a button nose, almond shaped eyes and dark shiny hair. From her Mexican side she received eyelashes for days and the perfect wavy quality to her lucious locks. And don't forget her curves. She could never get any hand-me-downs from her cousins because her booty would never fit into their pants -- but it's not like Bea is complaining. And thanks to the quarter of Norweigan (or was it Swedish? Her grandfather said his parents would change their answer depending on the day) she was taller than most of her relatives, measuring in at a substantal 5'6". Bea's style is totally casual and hobo chic. She grew up visiting Berkeley on weekends and fell in love with the laid back lifestyle of the area. She can usually be found in shorts and a flowy top, though has a pretty decent supply of workout clothes for when she exercises. Years of gymnastics, cheerleading and trapezing has naturally led to her having a muscular and toned body, which is something she's proud of not to mention the fact that she's found it to be quite useful in the zombie apocalypse. PERSONALITY SONG LYRIC OR QUOTE HERE Bea has never been afraid to march to the beat of her own drum. Her passions are quirky and off the beaten track, but gaining approval from the masses has never been a concern for her. That doesn't mean Bea was one of those weird loner girls in school, but she certainly wasn't the queen bee. During school, before the zombies came and before she was Prep Rep, she existed comfortably on the sidelines of her clique. Now that she's the leader of her faction, she hasn't changed all that much or reveled in the new spotlight. Instead she's made the effort to be more welcoming to those who might feel like their ideas have been ignored just because they're more 'out there'. She's wildly energetic and has been since she was a small child and with all the energy coursing through her veins, she can't help but be on the go. Sitting around and doing nothing isn't something that exists in Bea's book. Usually this involves exercising with other people around Fox Grove or practicing on the tightrop and trapeze swing she set up for herself, but she also volunteers to go on scouting runs and is involved in taking care of the growing baby population. Bea has a relatively positive outlook on life despite how things have changed so dramatically in the past two years. It was never in her nature to worry and fret before the zombies came and that hasn't changed all that much. She's gotten more practical and her head isn't quite as far up in the clouds anymore because she knows they have to worry about having water and food and keeping Fox Grove protected to ensure their survival. The main thing she struggles with (besides the whole zombies thing) is the fact that her dream of being a trapeze artist literally doesn't exist anymore. Her life ambition was a little out there but it had been real and she'd been working really hard to make it a reality but now she's not quite so sure what her purpose in life is anymore which is probably why her efforts around Fox Grove are scattered all over the place. She doesn't have anything strongly pulling her in any direction, which a little scary for her after having such convistion about what she wanted to do with her life. HISTORY SONG LYRIC OR QUOTE HERE Beatrice was born to Ruby Aquino and Tristan Rodríguez on a lovely December day 20 years ago. In true Filipino tradition her name came about by her parents taking pieces of their own names and smushing them together, thus resulting in Beatrice. Bea realizes that she could've been named something much worse. At least she didn't end up named something stupid like Renesme -- that's not even a real name. To understand Bea's history, the first thing you need to know is she's the child of a first generation Filipino mother and a second generation Mexican father. Family was an important pillar to Bea's upbringing. She was always surrounded by her aunts and uncles and cousins and grandparents on her mother's side. When the Aquinos emigrated from the Philippines they settled themselves in Hayward, California, which is just east of San Francisco. Bea's father, Tristan, had moved to the Bay Area for a software development job during the telecom boom during the mid '90s and not too long after that he met Bea's mother, Ruby, at his doctor's office. She was the nurse assisting with his checkup and instantly there were sparks between them. Despite what was probably proper for that situation, especially since Ruby was sticking things in his ear to take his temperature, Tristan asked her out. And the rest was history. They were married and not too long later, blessed with their baby girl, Bea. Growing up, Bea was a very energetic kid, so it was a good thing she had her cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents in addition to her parents to keep her entertained. Even still, she had too much pent up energy that her parents enrolled her in gymnastics as a way to try and burn it off. Bea fell in love with it straight away, enjoying the tumbling and the flipping and the ribbon twirling. She had loads of fun in gymnastics and by the time she was 10 she begged and begged her parents to take her to the Cirque Du Soleil show when it came to San Francisco because her friend had seen one and it was so awesome. Finally Ruby and Tristan gave in and they went to a show, which is where Bea became obsessed with trapeze. She was transfixed as she watched the couple swing back and forth and leaping from bar to bar and catching one another during their performance. It could be said that Ruby and Tristan spoiled their only daughter so when Beatrice begged and begged her parents to sign her up for a trapeze class after seeing the Cirque Du Soleil show, they couldn't help but give in. She still liked gymnastics but there was something extra special about soaring 15 feet above the ground, feeling the wind blow in her face and whip her hair around that only trapeze could offer. After all, she'd never been one of those kids who was afraid of heights. Usually she was the one who had climbed all the way to the top where the branches were so thin, the wind could cause the tree to sway. When she wasn't busy with school, gymnastics or trapeze, Bea liked to go into Berkeley or San Francisco on the weekends with her family. She loved just walking the streets and taking in the sights. When she really started becoming her own person and figuring out who she was, a lot of her inspiration came from the streets of Berkeley. She became a big fan of tye dye, peace signs and flowy clothes. Her parents weren't necessarily conservative but as children of immigrants they worked hard to build the life they had so seeing their only child turn into a free love hippie was a little unnerving. Nothing could really stop Bea from marching to the beat of her own drum, though. Life was pretty great for Bea. She loved her life in California, so it was a devistating blow when her parents told her they'd be moving to Austin, Texas. She was 13 years old, navigating the challenges of middle school, when her parents got news that Tristan's mother was dealing with some health issues. Tristan was an only child and without much other family living in Texas, he and Ruby decided that it would be best if their family relocated to Texas so they could help. It broke Bea's heart to say goodbye to family as well as her gymnastics and trapeze friends but when the school year finished that year, the Rodríguez family packed up their things and moved down south. Living in Austin was nothing like living in Northern California. To start, the weather was terrible. It was always hot and Bea really wasn't a fan. They lived out in the suburbs with her grandparents which felt like being on a foreign planet after spending her free time wandering the bustling streets of San Francisco. She was also practically the only Asian looking person around despite the fact that her mom enrolled her at one of the schools in the city that had more diversity. She'd never felt so much like a fish out of water. Luckily she was able to join new gymnastics and trapeze schools and threw herself into that more than ever as she tried to cope with the move. As a Freshman she ended up joining cheerleading as a consolation prize due to Fox Grove's lack of a gymnastics team. She wasn't super into the yelling and cheering, but being one of the best tumblers on the squad was a definite perk. By Sophomore year she was already on the Varisty squad thanks to the skills she'd learned in gymnastics. Bea mostly associated with other cheerleaders and jocks throughout high school just because it was who she saw the most of, but that didn't mean she missed the 'freaky hippie circus girl' comments some of the bitchier popular girls made about her. Her mom found work at UMCB where she met [Danny's mom]. They bonded over the fact that they both had teenage children and when they learned both Bea and Danny attended Fox Grove, the women began throwing their kids at each other at any given opportunity. It was super awkward at first to be set up on playdates at the age of 15. Danny was on the football team so she ended up seeing quite a bit of him. Eventuually though, because of running in the same social circles and their mothers' meddling, Danny and Bea managed to get over the awkwardness and become pretty good friends. As high school graduation grew closer, Ruby and Tristan worried about what Bea was going to do with her life. She was so focused on her desire to become a famous trapeze artist that she didn't really give her all to academics. Of course, she managed to do well enough that her parents wouldn't ground her and her grades never slipped low enough to get her kicked out of cheerleading, but it was pretty obvious that her passion lay far away from academia. Ruby and Tristan made Bea apply to colleges but all she really wanted to do was run off and join the circus. Her parents had never fully understood her obsession with twirling around up on a rope, but they'd never stopped her -- mostly because they hoped that her athletic abilities would help her get a scholarship somewhere. Reluctantly Bea had decided to attend the Univeristy of Miami on a partial-cheerleading scholarship until she could work out how to make her trapeze dream a reality. She never got a chance for any of that, however, because the world took a turn into crazyville. She'd been at school late one day doing something for their next cheer competition when the hoard came through the school. She saw one of her co-captains's arm totally gnawed off and with a shriek, locked herself in her coach's office. She stayed cooped up in that little office for over a day. Once she heard most of the screaming stop, she cautiously made her way out and found a small group of surviving students. Bea was quickly informed about the zombies and how the jocks had secured the school under the guidance of Persephone Forrester. Bea'd never given the girl much thought before, though not in an unkind way. She was just a few grades below her and they ran in totally different circles. Stuff like that just was the norm. Bea was one of the only surviving cheerleaders, tragically enough, and when the council began to form she volunteered for the position of Prep Rep. Seeing as she'd always been accepted in the popular clique just because she was a cheerleader, she found this new leadership position a welcome change. For once, she was the one her social group looked up to and they didn't mutter bad things about her under their breath (quite as much, anyway). She wasn't power hungry or anything but it felt good to have her voice heard and to be more respected. Life at Fox Grove since the initial outbreak has been interesting for Bea. She was quite spoiled growing up and now they're literally fighting for survival day-by-day. She helps out where ever she can at the school, mostly drawn to keeping the other students in shape (because it really helps when you can outrun the zombie or at least hit them really hard) but in addition to that she's grown quite fond of helping out with the babies. It's not something she's ready for, by a long shot, but she misses having her family around and being part of the new ones forming sort of fills that void. | BEATRICE RODRÍGUEZ song lyric or quote here Full Name: Beatrice Ellen Aquino Rodríguez Goes By: Bea Age: 21 Game Birth Date: December 7, 1997 IRL Birth Date: December 20, 1997 Birth Place: Hayward, CA Immunity Status: Unknown Current Residence: Fox Grove Job: Prep Representative Username: soaring Known Languages: English, Tagalog, and some Spanish NAME: Joie EMAIL: wanderinghope [at] gmail [dot] com PB: Vanessa Hudgens |
