| Bio: | Personal History: Carmen was born in 1452 in Spain, one year after her cousin, Isabella, who would one day marry King Ferdinand. She had a normal upbringing for a girl of her stature, despite being a rambunctious young girl, her parents doted upon her. As she grew up she came to love reading fanciful stories, and horse riding. She was not easily controlled, but she did her best to obey her parents even if they were sometimes exhausted by her. She went through minders and nurses quickly, all of them stating there was nothing to be done about her. More than one suggested sending her off to a convent to humble her. In 1467 when she was 15 her Mother fell ill and died a month before her 16th birthday. This, naturally, devastated her and her Father. Not sure how to proceed with the upbringing of a girl such as Carmen, her Father set about finding her a husband. It didn't take long, Carmen was a beautiful girl from a very rich and well respected family. On her 16th birthday she was married, despite her protests, to the Lord of Biscay and was taken from her childhood home to her new home on the coast of Spain. Her husband was nearly 30 years her senior, and the demanding sort. He wasn't outright terrible, she just didn't love him, and couldn't ever see herself doing so. He was rarely home and when he was it was if she didn't exist outside of their bedroom. This was mostly okay with her, it gave her time to ride, read, and explore her surroundings. When she first arrived in Biscay at age 16, she met Eleazar, who was only a boy of 8. He was the son of her husband's stable hand, and she took a liking to him, bringing him sweets, and telling him stories of her life at court. He was a bit of an escape for her, and he was consistently willing to do her bidding every chance he got. His Father was pleased she'd taken such an interest in him, hoping it would one day get his son out of the stables and into a higher position in the household. She taught him to read, and shared her library with him as he grew older. He accompanied her on her walks around the grounds, and didn't bat an eye when she took off her shoes on the secluded beaches that her home overlooked. She was still very much a child herself, so it was easy to let loose with someone so much younger, and so far below her social status. As he grew older, he became less of a friend, and more of a confidant, she shared things with him she was embarrassed to even think. She told him about her husband, and her marriage. As time wore on it became obvious that Carmen would never have a child, and this frustrated her husband. The only thing she found frustrating about it was that her husband wasn't the sort to give up easily, and he was home more and more. He at first blamed the fact that she was far too active for a woman, and did his best to confine her to the house. He then started to blame the fact that she wasn't pious enough so she was in church far more than she cared to be. She found herself begging God for a child just so her husband would leave her alone. After eight years of marriage he settled on blaming himself for not being a demanding enough husband, and her life went from an inconvenience to feeling like a prisoner in her own home. The only enjoyment she found at all was her time with Eleazar walking around the grounds, her husband thought it healthy for her to spend her time with the boy, somehow thinking that it would help her maternal instincts in bringing up a good son. Never mind the fact that by this point Eleazar was 16 years old, and no longer a boy at all. Their relationship was the most cherished thing in Carmen's life, and she trusted him completely, he never judged her for talking about inappropriate things, he never questioned her ability to conceive, he never scolded her for anything at all. He treated her like a person, and it was evident that he worshipped the ground she walked on. There was nothing she couldn't, or wouldn't say to him, and even though she did most of the talking, she liked to think he felt the same about her. He was always considerate, he was always a gentleman, and he did every thing she could possibly want before she even asked for it. On the several occasions she did ask for things he complied without question. Her husband suggested several times that the boy be sent somewhere for some kind of training in a trade, since she'd taken such a fancy to him her husband was always very kind to him as well. She offered these opportunities to Eleazar grudgingly, relishing the fact that he always declined politely. She didn't want him to leave her at all, and he always stated that if he left there would be no one there to keep her out of trouble. And she agreed whole heartedly. On Eleazar's 17th birthday, Carmen went down to the stables to wish him a happy birthday, and give him the gift she'd gotten him. He was there working, as usual, and she asked him to go for a walk with her. He didn't even look at her, and declined. To say she was shocked was putting it mildly and she asked him again, this time more firmly. And he turned to look at her and that was when she noticed something very different about him. He was a man. It wasn't that so much had changed overnight, it was the way he looked at her, the way she saw him by the light of the lantern in the stable. And it was the fact that for the first time, he looked angry. She wasn't sure what she'd done, but she knew he was upset. And he told her to leave. She, being who she was, refused and reminded him of his place. He refused to fight with her, and continued working, and her rage grew and grew. She walked further into the stable and that was the night their relationship changed. What started out as their first fight, turned into the night their affair started. And Eleazar admitting that he was in love with her. She was rather surprised to learn she completely reciprocated his feelings. How could she not? She knew it was wrong, and against everything she'd ever been taught, and she knew that adultery was a hellworthy trespass. She didn't care. She'd never felt so alive in her life, and she couldn't remember a time she was happier than she was with him. The ruse wasn't difficult to maintain, her husband was blind to it, and nothing had changed to the outside eye. Except perhaps to Eleazar's father who went to great lengths to send his son as far away from her as possible. It was four months into the affair when something happened, Carmen became pregnant. It was obvious that there was no possible way the child was her husband's, and the defiant part of herself wanted to scream from the mountain tops that there was nothing wrong with HER, and that it was her husband who was deficient. But she couldn't, her husband was, of course thrilled, but this caused many problems for her and Eleazar. He wanted to run away with her, and as much as she wanted to as well, they could never care for a child properly with no money, and no place to go. The fact that she was carrying the child of a man she actually loved was more amazing to her than any thing she'd ever experienced. In the summer of 1477, when Carmen was 25 years old, she gave birth to a daughter, Isabella after her cousin. However, Isabella would come to be known in private moments with her and Eleazar as "Sarita" their princess. Now that a child had been born, her husband, though wishing for a boy, was satisfied. He started staying gone again, and this was perfectly convenient for Eleazar and Carmen, and the newest addition to their secret little family. They did have to be a bit more careful, if anyone suspected it wouldn't just be them who would be ruined, but most likely their daughter as well. Things carried on quite peacefully for quite some time, the spanish inquisition had begun, and while several people lived in fear for it's arrival in their towns, she wasn't the slightest bit worried. It all seemed silly to her, the fear it put into people. She'd fallen so much in love with Eleazar that what they did and had done hardly felt like a sin. It wasn't until 1480 when Carmen's husband came home unexpectedly and began looking for his wife. She hadn't expected him home for several more weeks. Her daughter was sleeping soundly in her bed, her nurse watching over her, Carmen should have been sleeping soundly in her bed as well. However, she was not. Her husband came across his wife, and his servant in a most precarious situation and their worlds came crashing down upon them. A war of words broke into a physical fight between the two men, as Carmen feared for the life of her lover and the life of her husband. The latter was simply because if Eleazar killed her husband, surely he would die as well. It was then something happened, that no one could explain, and it left her husband walking away dazed and confused. She couldn't explain it, and she didn't ask, she was just pleased it was over. She knew that they were in for a hard road, and she was ready to leave that night. Grab their daughter and go. She begged, and begged, but Eleazar knew that he had no way to take care of her, and suggested that he go and come back for her one day. She owed it to their daughter to see that she was brought up properly. She swore that if he left without her she'd never love him again, and said terrible things to him, brought on by her own heartache. As luck would have it, her words wounded him deeply enough that he agreed not to leave, but he couldn't stay there anymore either. This proved to be the beginning of the end, it wasn't a week before her husband turned Eleazar over to the Inquisiton with charges of witchcraft and heresy, and his wife over as an adulteress. She went willingly, refusing to cause a scene in front of her three year old daughter who watched wide eyed as she was led away. She'll never forget that look on her child's tear stained face, as long as she lives. The events that followed after he arrest assured her that she would be living a very, very long life. She was held in a cell with another woman, the most beautiful woman she'd ever seen, who was there on charges of heresy herself and scheduled to be executed. They'd tried to break her, to torture her, and nothing had happened, and her body had healed quickly. They were labeling her a witch. Carmen broke down, and told the woman her story, and as she did, the woman offered her a solution, and a guarantee that she and Eleazar could be together in this life and every lifetime that followed after. It was this woman who turned both Carmen and Eleazar after helping them escape, she explained what she had done, what they now were, and how they would have to live. She helped them through many difficult years, and was a mother figure to the both of them as they adjusted to their new lives as vampires. The months turned to years, and it seemed like no time had passed at all. Carmen was surprised to find that when she snuck back to her old home and spied her daughter, now 18 and a woman herself. It had been 15 years. She was pleased to see her married to a man close to her own age, and it seemed she was happy. Carmen herself was saddened she'd missed it all, but was happy that life had been kind to her. She had her Father's eyes, and her Mother's smile, and the man she'd married was obviously enamored with her. She couldn't have asked for better, and was pleased that her husband hadn't thrown her to the streets. Probably to avoid embarrassment, but that was okay with her, whatever it took. She went back to Eleazar that night and told him it was time to leave Spain, she didn't care where they went. It was 1495 and the world was growing by leaps and bounds it seemed. They went to Italy, and spent many many years in Volturra, living life with a coven there, it wasn't until centuries later when Eleazar began having problems with the way that they lived, off of humans like parasites. She listened to his concerns, and agreed it was time to go. The Volturi were not pleased with their choice, specifically because of Eleazar's powers that had manifested and proved quite useful in luring the humans to their deaths. She would have followed Eleazar anywhere, and she did. To the Americas. They made their life there, and moved from colony to colony as it became necessary, learning slowly to live off the blood of animals, and reinventing themselves with a peaceful existence. They watched as the world grew even larger, the America's gaining their Independence, moving from place to place as they pleased. Never once losing sight of each other, or the love they had for one another. They traveled in style when they did feel the need to head back to Europe, they lived in style, and were always well received in any circles they chose to run in. Always husband and wife, though never legally married. Occasionally they met more of their kind, and would spend time with them, but usually their differences in meal choices drove a wedge between them. It wasn't until 1903 when Carmen met Tanya on a particularly rainy day in New York City. Both of them knew what the other was, and neither of them had the face or the eyes of one who hunted humans. At last. Kindred spirits. The two became fast friends that day, and she met Tanya's two sisters, Irina and Kate, and she introduced them to Eleazar. The group of them have been a family since. Along the way they met Carlisle Cullen, and watched his family grow as well. Eventually they settled in Denali, and have been there ever since, it is quiet and peaceful, they are a calm group, and Carmen couldn't be happier. She has Eleazar, and a family, a place to call home, and she can't see anything changing her happiness in the future. 555 years old, and she's finally settled down. | |||||||||
