She is of average height, at 5' 5" with an athlete's body, weighing in at 124 lbs. She has her nose pierced on the left side, as well as two piercings in each ear. She dresses for comfort rather than fashion, and is thus almost always wearing jeans, but she does know how to dress up if the need arises. Distinguishing marks: Nose piercing on the left side, long scar across the bottom of her back when when she fell out of a tree when she was six. PB: Cheyenne Kimball Birth Location: Tallulah, LA Personality: Quiet and observant, Alessa has a tendency to be overlooked in comparison to those who are louder or more exuberant than she is. She is gentle, honest, trustworthy and caring, her kindness given to many, deserving or not. Her quiet nature does not mean that Alessa is an extremely serious person, on the contrast, she is very fun-loving, in her own unique way. While she is not extremely shy, Alessa is also not the most socially adept person, and she often stumbles over her words when speaking to someone new. Self-confidence and intelligence are her secret weapons, surprising some who think that her quietness symbolizes a weak or simple mind. Alessa likes to challenge herself, and she is constantly trying to improve herself, and learning is one of her greatest passions. She loves music of any and all kinds, and is somewhat gifted musically herself. As an earthmage, Alessa has a great intimacy with nature and plants in particular. She loves to be outside, surrounded by living green things. Fall and winter are especially hard on her, making her somewhat depressed, but she copes with it with help of the many potted plants she likes to keep in her room. Since she spent much of her childhood with her plants rather than other child she is slightly awkward socially, though she has been taught extensive amounts of "proper etiquette" by her grandmother. Personal Background: Alessa Lorelei Clacher was born on a warm June evening in 1989 in the small southern town of Tallulah, Louisiana, the first and only child of Elena and Michael Clacher, a young couple who had married less than a year before. Unfortunately for Alessa, she would never know her parents, who were killed in a car accident when she was only two years old. In her father's will, it stated that Alessa was to be cared for by his mother, Alessa's grandmother, an elderly woman by the name of Annabelle. Annabelle lived on a plantation a few miles away that her ancestors had owned since before the Civil War. Annabelle was a strict but caring woman who was known in the town for her gardening skills, and her plants were the greenest, largest and healthiest for miles around. From a young age, Alessa showed a burning desire to learn everything she could about any subject that fascinated her at the moment. At age six she began playing piano, and at ten first picked up a guitar. She especially enjoyed reading in the shade of her favorite oak tree in the backyard. Whenever she had time to do what she wanted, Alessa could always be found out of doors, somewhere on her grandmother's plantation where she would be surrounded by plant life of all kinds. Mother Nature was her best friend, and some of the other children thought her slightly odd because of her constant desire to be outside, even in the sweltering summer heat when they would rather be in the air-conditioned houses to escape the heat. Even when Alessa was young, there were signs that she was gifted. Plants would be greener after she touched them, and she spent as little time indoors as she could. Earth magic had been whispered of in her family before, but Alessa though this was all a myth, though she herself couldn't explain why plants did such strange things around her. For example, when she was eleven, Alessa was being teased by older kids at school, who called her a "nerd" and a "freak." In order to get away, she ran through a dense rose bush, and amazingly came out unharmed, though her bullys could not get through because the thorns were too thick. The ones who tried came out with deep scratches all over their bodies, and since then they left Alessa alone. It was near Alessa's seventeenth birthday when her grandmother explained that she was, indeed, gifted with earth magic herself. It surprised Alessa, and she wasn't entirely sure she believed it. But she started to believe when she began to water and care for a near dead tree on the plantation. She did the exact same things the gardner did, and yet, once she began to watch over the tree, it slowly but surely began to get better. When she was convinced in her powers, her grandmother had Alessa's older cousin Shannon, who had attended Halcyon a few years earlier, to come and teach Alessa more about her craft. Alessa was an eager pupil, always asking questions that her mentor didn't always have the answers to. But her lessons were overshadowed by her grandmother's increasing ill health, and so everything she learned was shaky and Alessa lacked the control that her cousin insisted upon. The plants she would try to direct simply would not obey, they seemed to be far more interested in finding a way to go to Alessa than doing what she wanted them to. Only three weeks after Shannon began teaching Alessa, Annabelle was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The docters refused to operate, because her health was already weak as it was. She was deemed "Terminally Ill" and given approximately four to six months to live. Annabelle made arrangements for Alessa to attend Halcyon after her death, and to stay with Shannon in the summers. She felt that Halcyon could provide a more balanced learning for Alessa, since Shannon had her own life to live. On December 15th, Annabelle Elizabeth Clacher died in her family home with her son, two daughters and their spouses and seven grandchildren around her. Alessa was scheduled to begin attending in late January, and just recently arrived. Family: Mother, Elena Clacher (deceased); father, Michael Clacher (deceased); grandmother, Annabelle Clacher (deceased); older cousin, Shannon (22); other assorted aunts, uncles and cousins. Weakness: Normal human weaknesses. Feels "naked" when she isn't around plants of some kind. Magical Abilities: Can summon and control the growth, and death of plant life. -Can speed or slow a plant's natural growth cycle, though the process is slow and not extremely noticeable at present. With time and practice she will be able to make the process go faster. -Can direct plants to grow in a certain direction, such as around house instead of up it. This works better with younger plants.
