Skin: White

Description: Hestia like her brothers and sisters is very beautiful. She is busty and curvy, but hides this behind her usual white frock. Her long wavy brown hair is similarily hidden behind her usual veil. Her face is soft, and kind, much like her personality. Compared to the other Olymipians she is very modest in her dress and apperance, which is fitting to her equally modest personality.

Hair: Wavy-curly dark brown
Eyes: Hazel
Skin: White

Description: Aaltje has dark brown, wavy, medium length hair. She has a thin waist, with bigger hips and bust. She is curvy similar to the way her goddess counterpart was. Unlike Hestia, Aaltje prefers to wear clothes that accent her curvy figure, but dresses professionally more often then not. She prefers to wear her hair down, sometimes she straightens it.

Personality
Myth
Personality: Hestia is often described as the gentlest of the Greek Gods and Godesses, not surprisingly traits often assigned to her are: kind, honest, forgiving, compassionate, calm, well centered and caring. Because of her gentle nature she had no enimies, and was gernally respected and loved by most. She avoids conflict and in fact gave up her seat on Mt. Olympus to Dionysus, in order to escape the drama of her other family members. She is the -most- virgin out of the three virgin goddesses, swearing on the head of Zeus to remain that way, thus preventing a war, when the gods Apollo and Poseidon both sought her. She is the protector of the sacred fire, and also the quase manager of Olympus. She is meticulous in her duties making sure that everything is in order, and everyone has what the need. Aside from her duties as a goddess, she was a dependable person, always helping the others as much as she could to manage their own lives.

Extravert/Introvert: Introvert
Sensing/Intuition: Sensing
Thinking/Feeling: Feeling
Judging/Perceiving: Perceiving
Hobbies and Interests: Homes, Hearths, her job, chatting.

Strengths: Calm, Well-centered, Kind, dependable, mediating. She is also “Eros Arrow” resistant. Hestia is a good listener, partly because she enjoys hearing the stories of the other gods and goddesses, but also because she really cares to listen. She is the type of personality that makes you feel like no one else is important when you are with her. You are her favorite, and her best friend.

Weaknesses: Conflict; at least in that she avoids it all cost, this was particularly unhelpful during the coup when she had to pick a side. For the most part this weakness works to her favor, but it also makes her life much much more uneventful than the other gods and goddesses.

Mortal

Personality: Aaltje, much like her mythical counterpart is kind, honest, forgiving, compassionate, calm, well centered and caring. She is very maternal, due to her close bonds to her younger brothers, and the early death of her parents. Aaltje is dedicated to her work and home, often times making it difficult for her to sustain a romantic relationship. She is unwilling to give up her time to persue romantic pleasures (not that she has never tried). Aside from her troubles romantically, for the most part Aaltje make friends easily, attracting men and women with her upbeat attitude and kind nature. Like her mythical counterpart, she avoids conflict at all costs.

Extravert/Introvert: Introvert/Extrovert depending on the situation
Sensing/Intuition: Sensing
Thinking/Feeling: Feeling
Judging/Perceiving: Perceiving
Hobbies/Interests: Sketching designs, building houses, cooking, shopping, decorating

Strengths: Charasmatic; she is excellent at letting people love/like her, with her thoughtful and intelligent way of speaking. Much like her counterpart she makes people feel like they are the most important when talking to her. Kind; of course she isn’t perfect, and has her moments where she is rude, and uncaring, but that is not often. For the most part she tries to be kind to everyone she meets. Hard working; Aaltje is dedicated to her work professionally, but also at home. When she takes on a project of any kind she is thorough, meticulous, consistent, and what have you. Dependable; Aaltje has a hard time saying no to anyone (unless it’s a date maybe), but she can never turn down someone in need, or anyone that asks her for a favor. It’s strength; makes her a better person.

Weaknesses: Avoding conflicts; Cause we all know that sometimes it is necessary. Like Hestia (not surprisingly), it can get her into a bind in times of serious tension. Indecisive; This is mostly a result of her being indecisive, she left her job with the city in large part because she could not make huge decisions that pitted the city against the people (Luckily she didn’t have to, but still it caused her stress).

Biographical

Myth:Hestia, unlike the other gods and goddesses, has little myth about her. Hestia is both the oldest and youngest of the Olympian era gods and goddesses. She was the first born to Rhea and the last regurgitated by Cronus, thus making her the oldest and youngest.

Hestia was courted by both Apollo and Poseidon (and probably Zeus, since he is always in there) but rejected their advances, swearing on the head of Zeus to remain a virgin, claiming Aphrodite’s ways were not her own. Because of her oath she prevented a possible war between powerful gods. Zeus “decreed that Hestia’s name should be mentioned first in any prayer and that she should receive the first portion of any sacrifice and be honored in the temples of each of the Olympian deities.” (Goddess Myths).

Not wanting to be involved of the quarrels of the other God’s and Goddesses Hestia humbly gave her seat to Dionysus. She spends all of her time attending the sacred fire of Mount Olympus, never allowing it to burn out, and so never leaving her home on Mt. Olympus to go on adventures. Zeus made her manager of Mt. Olympus giving her the responsibility of making sure that everyone’s equipment and clothing were in good condition, and also making sure that there was always food and wine available.

Hestia was particularly close to Hermes, him coming and going as much as he did, often passed her by. She loves to talk to Hermes the most (though she’d never let on to others besides him), because he has the most stories to tell. Apart from Hermes, she was close with Demeter. Demeter, being the kinder of her two sisters, was always nice to talk to. Hestia has always felt protective over her more so than her other siblings. Like Hermes would be her favorite nephew, Kore is her favorite niece, she is adorable, sweet, kind, and the spring. Some stories suggest that Dionysus is the son Hestia always wished she had, this probably being the reason she gave her spot on Olympus to him. He is youthful, full of energy, and also full of stories.

Hestia also was the first to discover how to build houses, and that is pretty awesome.

Before the Coup of Cronus: Hestia attended to her duties, trying her best to stay out of the looming conflict. She did not want to be forced to choose between sides. However as sides started to become more obvious, she found herself morally sided with her brother Zeus. The tension was, to no surprise, terribly uncomfortable for her.

During the Coup: Hestia, finally, actually, faced with the decision to pick a side, since staying neutral wasn't an option sided with Zeus. She very much did not want to see the throne of Olympus fall into the hands of Ares. She was most discouraged by Poseidon's decision to join Ares in his quest for the throne, not wanting her siblings to be torn in such a way. She couldn’t be too surprised with Hera’s decision to side with Ares, but still this caused her to be distressed. She stayed as much as she could out of the fighting. Instead she made sure Zeus's side always had food and wine, along with supplies that were in tact, she tended to the wounded when she could. It was a most heart wrenching time in her life.

Mortal:Aaltje was born December 31, 1970, the first daughter of Aaltje Wyman and Sam Van Zandt. Her parents immigrated to the United States from The Netherlands in 1969 right after they were married; in months to follow Aaltje was born. They lived in a Dutch Colonial size house with many rooms and a large yard, appropriate as Aaltje’s two younger brothers were born in 1972 (Sam), and 1975 (Guy) respectively.

As a child Aaltje was respectful and outgoing in personality. She made many friends in school with her usually good spirits, kind demeanor, and willingness to help anyone who asked. Despite her outgoing personality, she preferred to stay home rather than going out, and often times, however she very much enjoyed having friends over.

In school she was always academically sound, though schoolwork often bored her. She preferred to spend her time drawing eventually becoming a pretty good artist. At one time she thought she might want to be an illustrator for children’s books, but with age that dream faded.

In high school Aaltje found herself becoming increasingly interested in buildings, and homes, more importantly the design of the buildings. That was when she started sketching designs and layouts for different homes and buildings she thought should exist, deciding now that she wanted to be an architect.

She didn’t date often in high school, preferring to focus on her school work, helping out around the house, and she much preferred to hang out with lots of friends rather than commit her self to one person.

She graduated high school in 1988. Following her dreams of becoming an architect, she attended Columbia University. Since her school was only sixty miles away she regularly visited home on the weekends, preferring to get the bulk of her work done there.

Despite her frequent trips home, she was still popular amongst her fellow students, always offering help and listening to others when they needed it. Again she didn’t date much, for the same reasons as when she was in high school.

She earned her undergraduate in 1992 and had easily been accepted into the University’s Graduate program.

Aaltje decided to take an apartment in the city, finding it too hard to commute to campus everyday from home with her new workload. Only a couple months from completing her graduate degree, Aaltje’s parents died instantly in a car accident, leaving the house and responsibilities with it to Aaltje. Those last two months were the hardest of her life. Not only did she have to deal with her own grief, and intense workload, but also she was now the legal guardian of her youngest brother, who was still a year from graduating high school. The best thing in her life at this point was that she had to move back home. The commute wasn’t as bad as she had imagined, in fact the two hour drive was welcome just to be able to live at home, where she always got her best work done.

After completing her graduate degree in 1994 she took a job with the City of New York designing public buildings. She held the job for seven years, before taking up work with a private business that designs and builds houses for New York’s wealthiest. Her current job allows her to stay home more often than not, and although in some ways it is not as rewarding, she prefers the quiet of her own home to the chaos of the city. She has many friends but isn’t particularly close to anyone, still she is a helpful and kind member of her community.

Why Are they in Athens now?: She is visiting her brother, Guy who is an Archeologist.

Dreams:Aaltje has had dreams that play like memories. She dreams herself in Hesita’s position on Mt. Olympus, talking to people as they pass and attending the fire. The dreams feel so real they seem like memories, as Aaltje always remembers the conversations, the feelings, thoughts and faces.
