InsaneJournal is the 2nd biggest LJ-based site [11 Mar 2012|05:14pm]
As far as I can tell, in very late December 2011, the total number of accounts on IJ surpassed that of Blurty, making IJ the second biggest site of all of the sites that I know of that are based on LJ's codebase, behind only LJ itself.

State of IJ [12 Nov 2011|11:45pm]
So, IJ crossed the 1 million account mark maybe 11 months or so ago, and I'd kind of noticed that, and noticed that the pace of growth here was actually slightly increasing and remaining consistently higher than the growth at Dreamwidth, but somewhere over the summer, things changed.

That is, IJ started growing a *lot* faster and substantially faster than Dreamwidth. And IJ crossed the 2 million account mark about a month ago.

the growth of IJ and other similar-sized LJ-type sites [16 Feb 2010|02:58pm]
(I don't know if this kind of thing is interesting to other people, but I certainly find it interesting to look at these numbers and graphs and whatnot.)

There appear to be only 3 LJ-type sites reporting over 100k and under 1M accounts: IJ, DeadJournal, and Dreamwidth (Blurty is slightly over 1M and LJ is over 25M). These 3 sites all report about 450k-650k accounts right now. more interesting, though, is what the graph of number of accounts over the past 8 months or so (since a little before DW's data starts) looks like.
First, note that DJ is essentially flat (they are growing, but at a much slower rate than IJ and DW) and IJ has now far-surpassed DJ to be (probably) the 3rd largest LJ-type site (behind LJ itself and Blurty).
Second, note that IJ's account total is increasing faster over time (concave up) while DW's is increasing slower over time (concave down), and IJ's growth rate (slope) is steeper than DW's throughout the timeframe. It might be that the more people that come to IJ, the greater the general interest in IJ; it might be that DW has somehow begun to saturate its potential market. Also, given how very large a number DW opened with, I have long been suspicious that their initial numbers were not real (perhaps accidentally).

an IJ note [06 Nov 2009|04:31am]
depending on measure (that is, using the "size:accounts" measure as opposed to the "userinfo:total" measure), InsaneJournal passed DeadJournal to become the 3rd largest LiveJournal-based site around Thursday, October 8, 2009.

(At a rough estimate, IJ will pass DJ to move into the #3 spot based on the "userinfo:total" measure in about 2-3 months.)

i've just started playing with lala.com--it's looking interesting in that it seems that it will give me access to a large chunk of what i've got in itunes via the web, but without having to actually upload stuff (it looks at what i supposedly own on my own computer and matches it up to stuff in its library). also, they've got really good pricing on songs both for streaming only and for mp3 downloading and they've got albums that the itunes music store and amazon mp3 store don't, like Belleruche's Turntable Soul Music.

Italicize what you started but didn't finish.
Bold what you read all the way through.
Underline what you loved.

So, about an hour ago, MoveOn.org sent out an email saying that they'd posted the finalists in the "Obama in 30 seconds" contest/campaign for rating. About half an hour after that, the site obamain30seconds.org seems to have died.

Anyone want to venture a guess as to the probability of attack versus load issue?

Edit: seems to be back up after about 20-30 minutes of down time. Also, it looked like moveon.org was down for the same time period.

this fucking meme took me more than a fucking hour! [05 Jan 2008|02:33am]
Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first two lines from the first 37 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing. [i skipped tracks that didn't really have lyrics (about a dozen non-classical and about a dozen classical], of course, as well as tracks where i couldn't understand the first line(s) nor could i find the lyrics online [another dozen or so], and anything that wasn't a song [about half a dozen]]
Step 3: Strike through the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like the game post your own.
