Mutant Abilities :: She possesses the ability to sense and manipulate the emotions of other sentient life forms. She can affect a large group of individuals at one time (a few hundred at most), and can exert varying levels of empathic control over them, ranging from subtle manipulations that others are generally unaware of to a complete negation of emotion that reduces others to a zombie-like state in which she can command them with little effort. Her power operates by means of her own brainwaves overriding the parts of the brain that govern emotion in others. She's gained deeper control over her abilities through training in the Danger Room. Individuals would volunteer (with knowledge of her involvement) for a routine session, during which Edana would practice honing in on specific individuals and using her ability to try and affect them. Excessive use of her mutation leads to a chaotic state of emotion for herself and those within her immediate vicinity. The fewer people she has to use her mutation on, the wider her physical range becomes. When there are more people she's forced to focus on, her physical range decreases. Another minor aspect of Edana's power is the ability to take on pain from another person. The downside is that she feels a pseudo injury where the person was hurt. This is pain caused by physical trauma, not emotional pain.

Personal History :: Edana was born four months premature in Ireland, only weighing one pound nine ounces at birth. Her doctors wondered if she would have mental or physical disabilities. Luckily though, she had no problems. She moved from Galway to Illinois (her father's home state) when she was eight because her parents inherited a large piece of land.

When Edana was twelve she was walking in the woods at the center of the family’s fields and became confused when she began to hear murmurs of thought in her mind, pieces of feelings. Something frightening was happening around her. It was the animals in the wood she sensed. Edana then heard illegal hunters conversing about a deer they’d just scared off. The deer jumped in front of Edana. She could feel the buck’s emotions. A shot was fired and she felt as though she'd been shot herself; for a moment she believed she had. She fell to her knees in pain, both mental and physical. Her emotions felt as though they were going haywire.

The hunters realized there may have been an accident when they saw a girl near their kill and ran to her aid. The hunters fell to their knees as well, and lay on the ground nearby, falling victim to the emotional output of the newly emerged empathy from the young mutant.

The ordeal was picked up on by Xavier via Cerebro and within the year, Edana was a student at his Institute.

After a few college courses, she decided her abilities could be better used by helping people. She had worked long and hard to learn to control her own emotions, and to use her mutation offensively/defensively. She set out to study psychology and has since earned several degrees - earning her place as counselor within the staff and to the students at Xavier's school. Despite her young age, her mutation allows her to be incredibly receptive, and with the addition of her schooling, she's a fairly capable therapist. Things have seemed to pick up for her during the most recent months - a zombie apocalypse can make folks a bit nutty.
