The further in time and space she travels, however, the greater the possible margin of error in both space and time. Her powers also include astral projection, sensing mystical presences, and summoning her Soulsword. ° The Longer Version Illyana Rasputin has an inherent genetic ability to generate 'stepping disks' that allow passage between this world and the astral plane, allowing her to teleport herself and other people and objects through space. Once inside the astral plane, she must travel physically to a different location within the AP before opening another stepping disk to the physical plane at her desired location. She can only create two 'stepping disks' at a time, an 'in' and an 'out' respectively, and does require some concentration to close each 'disk' behind her; again, with more concentration and focus, she could create as many as three 'stepping disks' in a single location (i.e. three 'in's and three 'out's) Since she is currently completely untrained in her powers, her teleportation is limited to a fifteen mile radius from where she currently stands; as she gets better at handling the distances through the Otherplace she could be able to teleport across an entire continent with the proper years of training. ° Limited Magical Ability Illyana has some innate magical ability, such as limited astral projection, the ability to sense mystical presences, the ability to generate and release concussive bolts of pure magic energy, the ability to summon the Soulsword and create magical force fields. Her magic is still very weak so far, but with more training she has great potential. ° The Soulsword The SoulSword is the ultimate embodiment of Illyana's magical strength. It is used to disrupt magical spells and injure or kill supernatural beings, though it had no physical effect on a non-supernatural creature, passing right through such a creature as if it were intangible. Slightly round, it's almost childish in appearance, and gives Illyana a look of innocence. Her big eyes with long, dark lashes intensify this as well. Clothing Styles/Colors: She either goes for bold colors, or soft pinks, and she prefers 'cute' clothes. Varies from preppy skirts and collar shirts, to peasant garb, to outfits being on the verge of skimpy, depending on her mood at the time. Coming from Russia, she's still not quite acclimatized to the States yet, and can get away with wearing cutoffs and t-shirts late into the autumn, and doesn't need a sweater until mid-December. Other: She has nothing she wears regularily, preferring to match her accessories with her outfits, or her mood. It's important to coordinate!

Personal History: Illyana grew up on her family's farm, along with her two older brothers, Piotr and Mikhail, in Russia. Though she's too young to remember much, if a telepath were to delve into the depths of her mind, they would come across buried memories of her brother Mikhail becoming a Cosmonaut. If questioned, she would not remember him being revealed as a mutant either, but she would say she remembered his death. She didn't know it at the time, but this death was actually a government cover-up, to keep the news of Mikhail's mutant developments from going public. She remembers vividly how her second brother, Piotr, discovered his mutant powers. She had been playing in one of the fields on the farm, and had unknowingly set up her doll's tea party right in the path of a runaway tractor. Piotr had rescued her, his flesh turned to gleaming steel, his body unharmed by the monstrous farm vehicle. Illyana was enamored with her brother, so when the 'bad men' took her away from him, she was devastated. Kidnapped by an outer ring of the Russian mafia, unknowingly being held in case they needed a card to play against her brother, Illyana spent much of her time wishing she could be somewhere, anywhere, else. When she was twelve years old, all those wishes, hopes, and dreams came true. While sitting, pining to be somewhere else, a portal opened up in front of her. Bewildered, frightened and very curious, she did what any child would do, and went through. What she found was a pocket dimension, which she promptly named 'the Otherplace'. She discovered that, by concentrating hard enough, she could travel anywhere in the world. She visited many places she had read about, and many strange places she came across by accident. When she was fifteen years old, she finally managed the courage to leave her kidnappers, slipping into the Otherplace and coming out on the other side of Siberia. Needless to say, she had come to the realization that there was a reason she could access the Otherplace, and walk through time. She, like her beloved brother, was a mutant When she was seventeen, Illyana decided to seek out people who could help her. After over a year of searching, she discovered just what she had been looking for; Charles Xavier, and his school for 'gifted' children, like her. Little did she know that, when she reached this school, she would be reunited with Piotr, her heroic big brother and the only family (she thought) she had left.
