This cure thing. Everyone’s- ok, right? I know there were supposed to be side effects and everything, but I mean, that’s with any medication, right? And especially one that’s still in trials and testing phases like this one is and the FDA wouldn’t have let it out if they were that bad. Hopefully. But I’m guessing there hasn’t been anything bad, at least not with anyone here because someone would have said something, right? I’m hoping they would have. I wish no one was taking it to begin with but that’s-

And I’ve been thinking- do we even really know exactly how this thing works? I’m assuming just power nullification? Since altering someone at the genetic level to technically make them not a mutant should be- impossible, I’m guessing? At least, not without major dna resequencing which- is that even possible? I mean, genetics isn’t exactly a core subject for me or anything but I do remember everything from my bio courses. So….after taking it, they’re still a mutant, just one with no powers. I don’t know, I could be way off here, but it all just- makes me think, I guess.

Call me overly trusting, but I don't give a shit how it works as long as it works.

You’re not even curious? You don’t want to know at all? How could you not want to know what this is doing to you? I can understand being trusting. I mean, at the very least the general public is trusting that this is safe and thoroughly tested and several other things but it just seems like- there should be more information available about it. The public has a right to know, don’t wet? Especially the part of the public that might be taking this in the first place.

Even if they did explain, I doubt I would follow. Besides, as far as I understand these things, don't they have a right to privacy until their drug is fully approved by the government so that other companies will not steal their process for competition?

I think that mostly applies to details like what chemical compounds in what amounts are in it or if some special process is used to formulate it or something like that, especially if it’s all patented. A general just- explanation of how or why it works could be detailed enough to tell target consumers some of how it works and still be vague enough that you wouldn’t be able to duplicate it from the information even if you knew what you were doing. I mean, even allergy medicines and stuff, all kinds of things you see commercials for do that all the time. And I’m guessing they usually put it in layman’s terms for just those reasons- it makes it easier for consumers to get the point of and harder for competition to pinpoint details with.

Has anyone told you that you ask too many questions?

Yeah. Sometimes I get that. A lot. So I guess it's probably a good thing I don't always believe in the idea of there being such a thing as too many questions. It's just the way I am- if I don't know something, I'm usually gonna ask, especially if I want to know. Or it could be that it's just an overabundance of curiosity now and them. Maybe I should have ended up a cat instead of a hare.

You also use a lot of words to say very simple things.

I get that too. Word limits on assignments are kind of the bane of my academic existence.

Seems sort of obvious to be pointing out, but it's not like this is one of those things you see commercials for.

No, but I'd think the same concept and standards would apply. Or maybe might apply. There has to be some kind of- something this falls under. At least with the fda since it passed through them and all? I don't know. I'm not sure I wanna think about what a commercial for it might be like.

I wouldn't expect them to release everything, but shouldn't they be legally required to put out something to the general population besides basically going 'hey, we've got this new stuff, who wants to try it?' That just- doesn't seem right.

[info]none_of_my_own

What? Why should they be legally required to do anything like that? The scientists, the FDA, and possibly/probably the participants know what's going on. They don't have any legal obligations to people who aren't even involved, that's stupid.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]march_hare_

Because it just- maybe not legally but maybe morally? I don't know. I know the ones actually taking this might know more but I just hate that the rest of us basically don't know anything.

I've pretty much scoured the internet, including Worthington Industries main site and some of their subsites. Most of what's out there is just debate on whether or not it should have been been done in the first place, whether or not anyone should take it and half the time all that boils down to is a lot of either pro-mutant or anti-mutant stuff. But as far as official information, it's pretty limited. I'm guessing they might be giving the ones actually taking it a little more information than everyone else. Or I'd hope they'd be. They really should be.

Why?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]march_hare_
2008-12-05 01:37 pm UTC (link)
What do you mean why? Well, because it directly affects them and is something they'd probably need to know about more than anyone who's not taking it.

Now that I think about it, I guess there might confidentiality agreements involved? So even if they were informed, they wouldn't be allowed to tell anyone who's not. That would be understandable- maybe. But really freaking frustrating.

That's not exactly a solution to me not having all the information on this thing I'd like to. The only thing that'd make me not frustrated is to find something out.

[Adrien]
Ok, I realize that you're probably not supposed to say anything if the answer is yes, but DID they give you guys any details on this thing? I mean, anything that the rest of us don't know? I just- I just want to know that all of this is going to turn out ok. Or even MIGHT BE ok.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]march_hare_
2008-12-06 09:01 am UTC (link)
Because I want to know what this stuff actually does to us, and I'd like to be able to think everyone I know that's taking it is going to be ok. I don't know if I can do that until I know- more.

He wants to know how the cure works or something like that. And questioned about the technicality of whether or not we cure-takers are still mutants.
