Miguel went through the portal expecting to be in New York City in the year 2013, but instead found himself in the small town of Dunwich MA, 2025. A coastal town with a prestigious University and a fairly decent tourist trade, he'd never heard of it before and he wanted to get out, but was unable to. The town had a barrier around it that prevented people from leaving, and the town seemed to be sentient in some way. Strange things happened every month - most recently there was a month where the sun didn't rise at all, which allowed the local vampires to run riot. Other things were a strange demon-like being trapping some people in a weird dream-place while the people left behind fought to free them (Vecna from Stranger Things), mass amnesia every weekend for a month, compulsions to tell the truth, ghosts pretending to be other ghosts in order to take advantage of the living, and so on. The locals noticed none of this.

Miguel was given a job in this town as a Biology teacher in the local high school, and he met someone! He has started dating Ruby Lucas - they just clicked, it seems.
