Rowing is a complex sport. Each boat has nine available positions: 8 rowers
(or crew) and a coxswain - usually the smallest member of the team who
does not row but instead times the pace and steers the boat. Please follow
this link for an in depth description of each position. There are two teams
at the school represented by two separate boats: The Bereginy, and The Vodni
Panny. The Captain of each boat is ultimately in charge of creating his or
her team. The teams are co-ed and can have members from any house or year,
though most members tend to be older because they are stronger and more
experienced. There are other boats that are used for learning and club
purposes with the direction of the Faculty Adviser, Professor Stohl, but
those boats do not compete in the way that these two boats do. The boats
compete in a few races a year. This sport will not be disbanded for
the year due to the Triwizard Tournament, though the Durmstrang Champion
may wish to quit the team for time and focus toward the Tournament.
Hint: The most important position on the boat
as far as leadership is concerned is the Stroke,
so the Captain will most likely take that
position, though it is your choice what position
you want your character to have.
