Lauren is a very very lovely woman for the age that she is. She has never seen a surgical room with doctors that make any woman who needs a nip, tuck, or a pull, nor will she ever. She rarely wears make-up, but when she does it is the most natural colors that can bring out a woman's beauty. The point of make was to hide what a woman truly looks like and that was something she never liked. A woman was beautiful regardless what people may say. Though she stays away from make-up she does play with hair color when she starts seeing the roots of her hair. The colors range from dirty blonde to brown. Lately, she has been sticking to her natural light brown color all because of her busy schedule. Her eyes are a light blue - sometimes changing to a hazel color. Standing at five foot and nine inches, it isn't all that difficult for her to find the right clothing at a reasonable price. All those designer clothing can stay on the rack, thank you very much. She may be the height of a model for the runways, but she rather stick to her low price clothing that actually can stay together longer than after one or two washes. What she wears is simple; dark to light jeans and tank tops or tees that are as plain as they come, though they are mostly dark in color because blood has a nasty way of showing up as bright as the Fourth of July fireworks. As much as she loves her tank tops and short sleeve shirts, she has to wear something over each shirt that has long sleeves to cover up the massive amounts of scars on her upper arms and some that are fairly new on her right arm. PERSONALITY WHEN NIGHTMARES COME, BABY CLOSE YOUR EYES, I'LL TAKE THE WEIGHT IF I GO TO SPEAK, I WILL REFRAIN AND BE THE SONG, JUST BE THE SONG There once was a time, a very long time ago, that a woman named Lauren had a heart of gold and did what was in her right to help those who needed it the most. What she wanted and needed was put on the back burner and whoever needed food, money, clothing, whatever else that was needed to keep the person on their two feet was always dealt with first on the start of her day. You could say she was taken for granted and people used her left and right because she allowed them to walk all over her and take whatever it was they wanted. She never once asked for anything in return. The only thing she may have wanted was to know that the person was safe and doing well after whatever it was she was able to do for them. She was always smiling, always laughing; there was nothing in this world that could bring her down from the positive cloud she was riding around on. Unless you were a pack of vampires that thought it would be all fun and games and break into a family home one evening to terrorize the poor family that lived in the home, making the mother watch as her only child is ripped from her arms and taken from her sight, and her husband, watching as he is bitten over and over again, the blood curtailing laughter echoing all around her making her wish she was just dead. Having witnessed such a tragic thing could damage a woman, causing any attempt to put her life back together nonexistent. Lauren never wanted to come out of the dark hole she put herself in. Every little happy memory was locked in several steel boxes and thrown down a hole themselves. She was an emotional wreck, lashing out at anyone who dare come near her, and she didn't care one bit if she drew blood. They were able to get a taste as to what she felt like. To this day she feels as though a blade is repeatedly cutting into her skin and trying to pull something out of it that isn't just her blood, and whatever that might be, she ignores it and goes on hunting what she is told to go after. Throwing herself in the line of danger for a little cash and going after a creature that is far stronger than she is can be a fool's death wish, but it allows her to feel something and not this aching sensation that puts a heavy weight upon her chest. She has locked her heart away in a very thick piece of ice, never allowing anyone near it, and if they even attempted they would be hit with a force that would make it hard for them to stand on their own two feet. Where that smile and laughter was became a glare and dead air, and all that love for one single stranger has turned into hate, malice, and bitchy sarcastic behavior. Trust is earned now, though no one will ever get it whether they try until they are upon their death beds. If the need called for playing the nice card, then it will be brought out, but it is only used for her bed side manner. Being a doctor came second nature to her. The old Lauren was still in there, it'll just take a lot of digging and a lot of fighting before she saw the light of day again. HISTORY WHEN INNER SCARS, SHOW ON YOUR FACE, AND DARKNESS HIDES YOUR SENSE OF PLACE, WELL I WON'T SPEAK, I WILL REFRAIN AND BE THE SONG, JUST BE THE SONG On December tenth, Barbara and Adam Richards were gifted with a beautiful baby girl at a little past two in the morning. The two parents were waiting for this day, and they were even more in love with their daughter when she finally came into the world to greet both of them. So it isn't all that hard to see that Lauren had a very loving and caring upbringing, never being pushed off a ledge that could cause her life to spiral out of control and possibly wind up in jail or a gutter. Neither of her parents pushed her on a line that they wanted her follow, they rather watch to see where she headed off, and only pushing when they really needed to. Pretty much like what any parent would do for their child when they only had one. Though, they may have wanted to keep Lauren within their sight as much as possible, but they knew when they needed to loosen the net and allow their daughter's wings to grow on their own and let her go off to find her own footing in the world. She was as normal as everyone else in Beverly Crest. Besides the fact that she had a gift that made a very sharp slice between what was normal and what no longer was. Keeping something like what Lauren could do from her parents was like trying to hide a baby elephant underneath a bed – it was impossible. Neither of her parents knew about it, nor did Lauren, until their family cat passed away when she was very young. She didn't quite understand the concept about death and that nothing could ever come back from it, and that their cat was in Heaven with the rest of them. All she had to do was think about her cat and how he was around Lauren, and well, the black and white feline pulled itself out of the grave and did what any cat did, be themselves but dead. Of course her parents were worried. The cat wasn't around for much longer than an hour and then it was back to being dead. Lauren thought nothing wrong with what she could do. She was able to play with her cat before he went back to sleep. To make sure their daughter didn't pull that stunt again with the dead animal, they took it to the vet and had it cremated. It might not have been right of her parents to keep something that major and life changing from their growing daughter, but how can you explain to an eight year old that she can raise the dead? Lauren was never a perfect little girl, nor was she top of her class when it came to school. In the 80's they still had the lovely stereotypes for each group within the school, but not as many as they do in this generation, it was enough to know which one you fit in and which you didn't. She did flock with the jocks and the cheerleaders – hell, she was one. But she was never one of the goody goody girls that wore dresses all the time and went to church every Sunday morning. Her parents weren't all that religious from the start so there wasn't much of a point for her to start something up she didn't quite understand and really had no interest to. She did have a jock boyfriend that she did lose her virginity to when she was sixteen years old, and yes, it did happen after a dance before the school year ended. Of course they didn't become high school sweethearts, like she had hoped they would become. She even had friends that were part of the geek squad. Guess you could say she was still friends with said geek, but she only really goes to him now for the up to date gadget for killing supernaturals. Still not knowing she had a gift (though she likes calling it a curse now) buried deep inside of her, because it only really worked when she was concentrating on a dead corpse and remembering how they lived, how the body worked, giving them that last spark inside their brain before it completely blew, she went on with her life like a teenager would. After graduating high school with good enough grades to continue on into college, Lauren decided she wanted to go into the medical field. Doing so many charity works and helping those that need it more than she did, it showed her what she really wanted to do in life, and that was helping children get better, as well as adults, but she had a fondness for children that made her heart swell. Her mother always said she would make a wonderful mother when she finally had children of her own. By the time she was in her late twenties she was well qualified to work in a hospital of her choosing, well, that is if said hospital would gladly like to work with her. She may have wanted to mainly work with children during her time through college, but when she was doing her residency in the local hospital near her hometown, she found that helping just about everyone that needed it brought a smile to her lips, that is, when she was really able to help someone out. There were times where she couldn't do much, and yes, that did break her heart, but what else could she have done? There is only so much one person could do, let alone a bunch of doctors and what the patient had by the means of money and if they could afford the surgery or even the medication. During her first time being a real doctor without someone being at her back at all times she lost a life to a horrible accident. It wasn't like she didn't do all she possibly could to help the woman, because she damn near killed herself to keep her patient alive. When the nurse called the time of death and they were just about ready to leave and inform a family member the body suddenly reanimated, all the equipment still attached, but there was no heart beat in sight upon the machine. The woman woke as if she was startled from a dream, sat up in a panic, and continued to do so as if she was reliving the accident. Everyone in the room panicked, so did Lauren. Throughout that panic she had a sickening feeling that she was the cause of all of this. As emotional as she was in that moment, the body lasted no longer than a few moments, before becoming limp and falling back upon the bed. Lauren knew what happened. The rest of the doctors and nurses in the room that witnessed it happening came to the conclusion that that was her last ounce of fight within her before finally giving up. After that, several more incidents happened. It really didn't take long before the police caught wind of what was going on. She didn't want to get involved with the police. She wanted to deny the fact that she could bring the dead back to life, whether it was for several hours or several minutes, she didn't care which one it was. All she wanted was a normal life with her husband and her baby. Yes, she has a life, a life that she adores with a passion and will do what she must to protect it. She met her husband while they were both in college, and by the time they both left and she was entering her residency, the got married. Wasn't long before she was pregnant. The first to know of what happened with her gift was her husband, who urged her to call her parents, and then once she knew the truth, that was when more of them started to happen. You could say her emotions were knotted firmly with her ability to raise the dead, because each time she tried to do it by really concentrating nothing happened. Having control over it was obviously not there, and it wasn't long before the police noticed that. Oh, yes, when they found out she was the cause of the recently dead hospital patients coming back to life for a brief time, they wanted her on board to bring back some victims that were murdered in vicious crimes to figure out who was their killer. She found out during that time that she was unable to bring bodies back that were dead far longer than five years. What was left in them was completely gone. The body was just that... a body. The longer she worked with the police, the more she became aware of what she was able to do. The control was still not there, but the girl still tried to get some sort of grasp on it so another accident didn't happen at work. Lauren loved her husband, along with their daughter. Her mother was right about her being a wonderful one herself. She was selfless with that girl, as well with the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with. Every time he smiled, it was like she was floating on air and it felt as though she was meeting him for the first time. She never came home feeling exhausted, even though she looked it each time. Matthew always had dinner out on the table waiting for her, their daughter patiently waiting for a new drawing for her mother each and every day. With working at the hospital and then sometimes going right to the police station, her nights away from home grew longer and longer, and dinner was always waiting in the fridge and a picture was waiting at the table without a smiling child with it. But both her husband and daughter understood. Madeline always called Lauren a superhero, and that she was saving the world from bad people. She always had to water down the stories for her daughter to hear before going to bed. The work at the station was slowly getting deeper and deeper into things that Lauren never signed up for. Did the police listen? Of course they didn't. They continued to drag her around as if she was their own drug dog. It got to the point that she had enough and told them that she can no longer do this and work at the hospital at the same time. Her job as well as her family mean more to her than this side job that they have her doing. That same day she quite doing what the police wanted and went right back into the life that she was really comfortable with. Things once again picked up back to the way they used to before the police got involved in her life. It was like nothing could come by and tear this happiness away from her. She was in Heaven! After her daughter's fifth birthday, Madeline was sound asleep in her new princess bed that both her parents bought her as her big birthday present – the rest of them were surrounding her bed, all spread out and not going anywhere without a fight. Both Lauren and Matthew were settling in for the night, talking about the day and were just about to fall asleep when the both heard the sound of glass shattering, as if a window or a door was being smashed. Matthew was the first to get up and check it out. And when he didn't say anything from half way down the hall, Lauren finally moved from the bed and slowly made her way out into the living. Upon coming into the room she saw her husband in the arms of two men, they were both going at his neck like a tiger ripping into a gazelle. She wanted to scream, but nothing came out, all she could do was stand there frozen in the spot. But it was like a shock, or a jolt of realization, snapped her out of it and she was finally moving toward her husband. The two men weren't alone. A third one grabbed her from behind and yanked her away from the torture her husband was going through. The sight she got before being whipped around were the two men biting at his neck with two teeth longer than the rest. What they were didn't come to mind right off the bat. No, not until much later. All Lauren wanted to do was get her husband away from these monsters and get as far away from their home with their daughter. Oh, god, where was Madeline. And on cue, there was a fourth who came out with her daughter. Lauren screamed and struggled to get to her child. From that moment on it felt like she was watching a movie from the first person point of view. Her husband was no longer making any noises, they dragged him off toward the kitchen. There was a voice pleading with the men to let her daughter go and leave them alone, take whatever they wanted and just go. It was her voice saying these things, but it didn't sound like her. She had a feeling her husband was dead, hence why she wanted them to let her daughter go and leave this place. However, she was denying that fact up and down and left to right. Each time she begged, they made a threat. They were torturing her with the life of her daughter. It got to the point that she was now screaming, threatening them. Deep down, she knew that was a mistake to do, but she was tired of this and wanted to get out of here safely with her baby. Once those threatening screams left her throat, that was when this hot tearing, sharp pain entered her body from her neck down. She was gasping for breath as she watched her daughter, their eyes met for the slightest moment, and when she blinked... all she could see was hair... her daughter's hair. Her brain didn't want to register it, her vision was already getting blurry. The leader of the small gang snapped Madeline's neck like it was nothing. Lauren was dropped to the floor like she was a rag doll. The dead look in her daughter's eyes when she was finally able to see them all thanks to the leader for dropping the body of her baby near her. She knew the small body was in the wrong position for that small lovely face to be staring at her in such a way, but Lauren could do nothing but choke back her sobs. Things were slowly fading, the laughter in the background sounding as though she had headphones on. However long they stuck around she didn't pay attention because all she could see was the dead look in her only child's eyes. Neighbors must have called the police because before she knew it she was in the hospital with a bag of blood over her head and a blinding light making her head hurt far worse than it already did. The nurse that was there told her she should have been dead with the amount of blood that she lost, but something in her wanted to fight and not allow that little bit of life within her to go out. The nurse sounded so cheerful over this. Lauren on the other hand wanted nothing to do with this woman and wanted her gone. She must have gotten the signal and left not that long after. The hospital kept her there until she was well enough to move on her own without the help of a walker and a wheelchair. Of course, Lauren never asked for help because she wanted nothing to do with anyone. She wanted to be left alone and she made it clear, even if she had to yell at the help in the room to get out. She'll never understand why the police had to come in and tell her what they made of the scene. She knew what happened. She was there after all, seeing the whole thing because they made her watch. What they said about her husband though, now that brought her out of the dark bubble she kept herself in, but it didn't keep her hold long enough. Her husband was dead regardless if his body wasn't found. That's what she told herself. Her parents held a funeral for both Madeline and Matthew, even if they didn't find the body, but Lauren was a no show. The grieving widow stayed in the hotel room her parents paid for, since she was going nowhere near her home until she was ready. It must have taken her months until she gave her parents some kind of sign that she was going to be alright even if she was faking it the entire time. She went home for their sake and made them feel as though their daughter was back and she was going to make her home feel as if there was nothing but loving memories and nothing more. When her parents left, Lauren trashed the house the second the front door closed and she could see her parents' car leaving the driveway. There was nothing left that could have been called furniture within that home. She broke everything in sight, ripped things apart, nothing was spared. What she thought was needed was packed in a duffle bag and the house was then torched. The place was a nightmare, filled to the brim with them, no one should be allowed to step food into the place and feel like it was loving home. Before anyone could suspect Lauren for burning her home down, she fled the state and found herself in Nevada where she reconnected with an old friend from high school. Learning that he was a marine and still did a lot machines, she wanted to learn all that he could to teach her with how to defend herself against any foe. Her friend didn't mind whatsoever with her staying in his home for however long she needed. He heard what happened to her family, and even read the report that the police thought they had well hidden from the public eye. What Lauren didn't know – yet – was that her friend was also a hunter and that he knew what attacked her family. The why, though, that question could never be answered. Vampires do whatever they wanted and attacked whenever and whoever they felt the need to. How she happened upon the fact that he hunted creatures that were only in fairy tales was by simply following him one night while he was on a job. She wasn't as stealthy as he was, only because she was still in the beginning of her self-defense courses with him, and also, why in the world would he ever teach how to do things like what he was now doing? It was fascinating, that was for sure, but also dangerous. And that was the tipping of the kettle that brought her into the world of danger itself. Their relationship soon became mentor and student, after Lauren told him about his little secret with excitement for the first time in a very long time. He knew this wasn't a scene for her, but neither was it for him, still, he wasn't going to say no because doing so would pretty much make him look like an idiot. She was a fast learner, however, that was with dummies that didn't move and could throw you clear across the room if they really wanted to, and yeah, they really liked doing that. He took her to a shooting range, got her a permit to carry, if anything were to happen by means of getting caught. Time passed before she was out there on her own and going after the things that go bump in the night. It was a rush, a rush she needed so badly. Killing something that could have easily ended her that night in her home sent a thrill through her, as though she was getting revenge for the monsters that took her happiness away. Like always, she wasn't perfect, and she always did get harmed during her nights out chasing what needed to be gunned down. Her skills as a doctor never left her, so it was always handy for those patient hands to work on herself, her friend, and anyone who needed a hand. She picked up a small nursing job in a building for those who didn't really have the insurance to go to the big time hospital. Plus, it was a perfect place to get supplies when she needed it for herself and her friend. One night while she was hunting a vampire, right before she was about to kill her, she spoke words of a man that she thought was dead from her heart the night he was taken from her. Believing such lies would give the monster ammo to take her down. They slide off of her like butter. Or so she thought they did. Was her husband alive? She wiped such nonsense from her thoughts. But then there were little hints here and there that made that thought pop back up and make her question so much. Little gifts were left at sights she just killed, his hand written words slowly making an appearance not soon after. Either someone was toying with her, or he was actually out there and was no longer with her. And as much as she hated her gift, it came in handy when she was out hunting. There was a bigger game out there for her now, and as each day goes by, he keeps leaving little bread crumbs in the form of a dead body or the simple things that made her smile. | ![]() Lauren I'll be the song.
