APPEARANCE |
APPEARANCE: Tall and typical-Weasley-ginger, it's not easy to miss Artemis. She's always been thin, luckily even after seven children (though some things are sagging now, she's at least maintained a relatively thin frame throughout). She keeps her hair long-ish, where it curls just a bit most days. It's starting to lose its vibrant red thanks to nature taking its course, but she's alright with that. As she's aged, her eyesight has gotten worse, and she's been wearing her glasses almost constantly since P[ercy] was born. She has faint scars on her backside thanks to a caning incident at Hogwarts that she prefers not to talk about. Most comfortable in robes, she has no idea what Muggle clothing goes together, though she's been picking H[arry] and H[ermione]'s brains for a few years now to see if she can dress well enough to pass as a Muggle herself. PLAYED BY: Connie Britton |
PERSONALITY |
PERSONALITY: Gryffindor Aquarians are the social activists and loons of their House. They'll picket for House Elf Liberation. They'll wear their robes inside out because they spent all night reading, not pay attention to how they dressed the next day, and not care if their rumpled appearance is pointed out to them. They are intellectual rebels and will loudly defend their opinions, even if doing so makes enemies. They are apt to question authority. "Even Merlin was wrong, some of the time," they'll say, shrugging. They can be flamboyantly talented, but are less interested in using their talent to "make it big" than in using it to make a better life for themselves or other people.Artemis is, for the most part, a very laid-back and easy-going woman, preferring to let M[olly] get worked up in her stead. She gets upset when people judge others on uncontrollable things such as who their parents are or how much money they happen to have, choosing for himself to judge people based on how they treat others. Generally, this means that most people like her, as she greets pretty much everyone as a future friend, letting them prove themselves not to be trusted rather than seeing anyone new as an instant threat/enemy. Of course, this sort of attitude means that sometimes she can be too trusting, and can get burned by it. Artemis doesn't put much stock in "fitting in" for fitting in's sake. She'd rather be herself, and let everyone else be themselves as well. Trying to climb the food chain doesn't hold much appeal to her when the alternative is being happy with yourself. Having grown up entirely in the wizarding world, Artemis is fascinated by Muggles and how they're able to cope in the world without the magic that is such an integral part of her own daily life. She has a very hard time containing her excitement around Muggles as well as their objects. Despite recognizing the differences between Muggles and wizards, Artemis's never believed that those without magic are somehow lesser than wizards. She thinks the two communities would benefit from a bit more co-operation. And also, airplanes are crazy, how do they do that! Obviously both worlds could learn from each other, she thinks. She has the same enthusiasm for most learning, actually. She actually thought she'd end up sorted in Ravenclaw because of it. Sometimes she gets too caught up in her excitement, overlooking dangers to himself- and on occasion others- in order to learn something new. Artemis has a bit of a romantic soul. While she enjoys making grand gestures to show her affection, she also knows that real love isn't in the loud, showy parts. She believes it's in the every day actions- a kiss before work, a cup of tea prepared just the way you like it, something small brought home from the market because you were thinking of the other person. It's not just a willingness to lay down your life in their stead, but also a willingness to merge and thus change your lives into a cohesive whole that is stronger than the parts that came before it. she would never say this out loud to her mates, though. With her friends, she does her best to show she cares by being the listening ear. When needed, she's happy to do nothing but sit there and listen, really listen, to a friend's woes, offering nothing but a chance to alleviate their worries. She's also very physically affectionate as a friend, wife, and mother. Her seven children are the best parts of her and M[olly], Artemis is convinced. No matter what she does, even if she were the Minister or became famous for some spell, her children are her best accomplishment. She always makes time for them, and does her best to encourage them to make their own choices and be individuals. All she wants is their happiness, even if it sometimes scares her (looking at you, C[harlie]). She sacrificed a lot for her children, but she never thought twice before making the choices she did to ensure their happiness. They might not be rich, but they're loved, and happy, and that's far more important to her. In the almost two years since the end of the Second War, Artemis has become more somber, and it takes longer for her to get into high spirits. She's confident the pieces will eventually heal over, but for now she's being patient with herself and with M[olly] as they navigate life without their daughter. HISTORY |
FAMILY: M[olly] Weasley- Husband W[illiam], C[harlie], P[ercy], G[eorge], F[leur] Delacour Weasley- Son-in-law S[eptimus] & C[edrella] Black Weasley- Parents B[illius] & I[gnatius] Weasley- Sisters F[abien] & G[ideon] Prewett- Sisters-in-law, deceased HISTORY: The children of S[eptimus] and C[edrella] were almost destined to be anomalies. The only dark-haired Weasley and the disgraced, blood-traitor Black daughter- how could their kids even hope to be normal? When B[illius] was born, it was the final nail in the coffin for C[edrella]'s former family- luckily he never wanted to return there anyway. I[gnatius] quickly followed, and then there was Artemis. A traditional family, S[eptimus] kept up her work at the Ministry and let C[edrella] raise their children, which he was very happy to do. He loved his sons, and adored spending time with them. He taught all three of them the basic skills they'd need before entering Hogwarts. And so Artemis was raised in a family with a lot of love, and a lot of loud and boisterous laughter. She and her sisters participated in broom races almost constantly, and Artemis always had a game of wizard's chess to play with her mother on the weekends- though she was rubbish at it, she enjoyed the stories her mother told. When it came time for her to start learning maths and english and the other classes her sisters took in their kitchen, she found it hard to slip into a structured kind of learning. Artemis was bright- brighter than her sisters actually- but she liked to learn things her own way. She didn't care about the fact that X equaled Z, she wanted to know why, and what the purpose of it all was. C[edrella] tried to be accommodating, but sometimes he would look back and realize he'd spent a whole day of lessons on one of Artemis's random questions, and the other girls were off playing. First B[illius] was sent off to King's Cross, and Artemis tagged along, eyes wide at the Muggle sights and sounds before being dragged through to Platform 9 3/4. She missed her older sister, but her bigger fear was to come the next year, when I[gnatius] left for that same train. She still had three more years until her own letter would come, and until then she felt as if her house was too big, though her mother tried her best to give her as much attention as she could, it just wasn't the same as having playmates closer to her own age. This did, however, give her more time and leeway with her studies, which she took full advantage of. When her letter came, Artemis was thrilled and more than ready to take on everything she needed to learn to become a wizard. Like her sisters before her, she was sorted into Gryffindor, where she met her new roommates, as well as the girls in her year. Her sisters did their best to look out for her and to help her make the 'right' sort of friends, but Artemis didn't much care for labels. If a person was good, she liked them. If they were halfblood or Muggle-born, all the better! Maybe she could pick their brains later... She made alright grades, though she was always the kid in the classroom with her hand in the air- especially when it cames to Muggle Studies. She fell in love from the first class, and when she sat the OWL she was the first student to finish, and one of the few to earn a perfect O. She never made a secret out of her adoration of the course, which did not endear her much to the purists at Hogwarts, despite her insistence that there was a lot to learn from Muggles. She grew up knowing she wanted to work at the Ministry like her mother, but now she had a clear focus- she wanted to work in Law Enforcement, under the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office. That way she could keep learning about Muggles, but also work toward better Muggle/Wizard relations. It was lucky for her that she managed to land the position very shortly after graduation, and even luckier still (in her mind at least) that M[olly] agreed to marry her that year as well. Having spent most of their Hogwarts years together, Artemis knew that he was the one for her, and despite the war raging on around them, she was happy. It was a surprise, but a happy one, when not even a year into their marriage Artemis fell pregnant. W[illam] was born in late November, and she fell in love with her daughter faster than she'd ever thought was possible. Having a family felt wonderful, and she couldn't wait for more, thankful that M[olly] felt very strongly about maintaining traditional gender roles that would allow her to keep working while they grew their family. C[harlie] was next, further cementing the 'Weasley Curse' of only girls, but Artemis didn't care. They were her babies and she loved them dearly, no matter their gender. Though she took some years off after C[harlie] was born, she knew they weren't done as a family. When she showed up at work for the first time visibly showing her pregnancy with P[ercy], that was when the grumbling began. She'd always been slightly mocked and belittled for her unconventional affection for Muggles and the way she didn't seem to care about prestige or money as long as she was doing work that felt personally important to her, but a third child seemed excessive to some of her colleagues, especially since they knew the Weasleys weren't exactly well-off. Two years later and the twins followed, prompting a much larger leave of absence to deal with the aftermath of two daughters at one time. Despite that break, R[on] wasn't far behind, and then there was G[inny]. The baby boy was a surprise, just like his oldest sister had been, but a very welcome one. They felt complete as a family, now. Unfortunately for the family, the year G[inny] was born was also the year they lost G[ideon] and F[abien] to the war. It shook both M[olly] and Artemis to be suddenly down two family members thanks to the war, and they were more protective of their children than ever after that. Seeing her eldest off to Hogwarts the next year was hard, and she thought it was in light of everything that had happened. But when C[harlie] was equally as hard, and then P[ercy] as well, she began to accept that it's just difficult to watch your children grow up, no matter how rewarding their growth and successes are. And there were so many successes. Head Boys and prefects, careers as dragon wranglers and curse-breakers. Their children were growing up to be quite exceptional. And luckily it was a while before G[inny] was old enough to leave them for school, so there was almost always a child underfoot. They could celebrate their oldest's successes while still cherishing the youthful days of their babies. The family continued on in a normal manner (as normal of a maner as the Weasleys ever do or did) until it was time for R[on] to make her debut at Hogwarts. It was there that she met Hannah, and things haven't been the same since. The young girl was obviously in need of a real family, and what was one more in a family of nine? Artemis enjoyed having H[arry] around, and for all of the trouble the girls got into (with H[ermione] there to help get them out of it), she never regretted opening her heart or home to H[arry]. Even when it cost her the Ford Anglia. And P[ercy], for a time. And not even when it cost her F[red]'s life. The war was a cause she'd mostly stayed out of the last time around. There was her very young family to think of, and she was never much for actual dueling. It was better to leave that to others, or so she thought. But when the war came knocking on their doorstep again, when it threatened those children she'd tried so hard to protect, there was no choice for her. This was the right thing to do, a very worthy cause, and she was going to be damned if she was going to let her children take up the cause without her marching right next to them. When the Order re-convened, she and M[olly] joined in without question, adapting to the secretive and dangerous lifestyle they'd only heard about from G[ideon] and F[abien]. But it wasn't easy for the whole family to adapt. Artemis was utterly gutted when P[ercy] and she had a row about her daughter's new promotion. That fight temporarily cost her a daughter, though she didn't know for certain that it would be a relatively short loss. The absence of her third baby was like the loss of a limb, and it was a feeling that still hasn't stopped, only exchanged for the permanent loss of F[red]. But she still kept on. And in 1995, it almost cost her life when N[agini] attacked her. The next few years were tense, W[illiam] suffered at the hands of F[enrir] and was permanently scarred. As was G[eorge], losing an ear to bring H[arry] to the Burrow. The darkness was only ever temporarily lightened. W[illiam] and F[leur]'s wedding was the brightest spot, only to end with the loss of R[on], H[arry], and H[ermione]. Not knowing where the children were, if they were safe or hungry or hurt, was agony even though she knew they had to do what they were doing. They had their own skirmishes and issues to deal with, and it all culminated in the final battle at Hogwarts. P[ercy] rejoined them for another bright spot, only for the darkest dark of them all to descend upon the family. Seeing F[red]'s body laid out in the Great Hall is a sight Artemis doesn't think she'll ever forget. Her perfect, beautiful daughter, struck down far too young. Burying a child is the worst thing a parent can do, and there she was. P[ercy] was facing the Wizengamot for her part in the regime of Thicknesse, and it didn't seem like the Weasleys would ever really be whole again. She threw herself into her work at the Ministry, combing the homes of known Death Eaters for illegal objects and basically doing whatever she could to distract herself. It went on for years, this distraction, but there was always a constant buzzing in her head. And G[eorge]'s misery helped to keep that fresh even on the days where it wasn't so bad for her. There was one thing that helped with the cobwebs, that affirmed to her that life could and would and forever did go on. W[illiam] became pregnant. The first grandbaby, a new family member to help heal them all. With her vast experience, Artemis has endeavored to be there for W[illiam] whenever possible, while trying not to hover too much. |
WORLD |
WHAT WORLD ARE THEY FROM? Swap WHAT YEAR ARE THEY FROM? 2000 HOW DOES THEIR WORLD DIFFER? People with dicks have vags, and vice versa. HOW DOES THIS CHANGE THEM? Instead of being the reason someone else popped out 7 babies, Artemis had to pop out the babies. This ALSO didn't help with her forward momentum at the Ministry, because having babies means time off of work. |
OTHER STUFF |
THREE RANDOM FACTS 1. During her Hogwarts days, Artemis managed to charm four toasters into a mail network instead of toasting bread. She found the toasters in the trash bins of Hogsmeade, and had no real idea what they were actually meant for until she finished the charm and showed a Muggle-born friend of hers. WHAT ITEMS / OBJECTS OF NOTE DID YOUR CHARACTER HAVE ON THEM WHEN TAKEN? Artemis was stepping into the Floo to Shell Cottage with fetus!Victorien's baby shower present (a pastel yellow stuffed bear), her wand in her purse. |

FIRST PERSON: I swear to Merlina, I said 'Shell Cottage' very clearly. I'm obviously in the wrong place, and this journal does not belong to me. I just can't find a Floo to get back [ ... ] [ ... ] M[olly]? Wil? |
