I'M GUNNING DOWN ROMANCE FULL NAME: Gavin Matthew Worthington DATE OF BIRTH: February 27, 1982 CURRENT AGE: 27 RACE: Bitten were tiger (white bengal) // former vanilla human BLOOD TYPE:: A+ SEXUALITY: Homosexual OCCUPATION: Photographer // Owner of Kaleidoscope Studios LOCATION: Scarlet Oak, Michigan PARENTS: Louise Worthington (estranged); Rory Worthington (estranged) SIBLINGS: Langston Worthington, 22, bitten were cheetah CHILDREN: None MARITAL STATUS: Single Physical Description. I believe the sun should never set upon an argument I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands First off, Gavin’s not that tall of a guy. Standing just shy of 5’11”, he often looks quite younger than he is, thanks to the fact that he’s still kind of babyfaced. Though his face is square shaped, it’s all offset by his big blue eyes, which stand out all the more thanks to his dark hair. If you’re going to remember anything about Gavin, it’s the eyes, hands down, and they give away how he’s feeling at any moment, even when the rest of his face doesn’t say anything at all. And it doesn’t help that he can’t grow a beard. Oh, he’ll try to grow facial hair, but he ends up with the crappiest of chin beards ever and an itty bitty soul patch. Every once in a while he gives it a go, then shaves it back off again. Really, it depends on the day with that one. When it comes to clothes, Gavin is a very put together casual. All of his clothes are comfortable, easy pieces, but he puts them together in such a way that he looks more stylish than he probably actually is. If it works, Gavin will go with it. It means that he never has to think much when he wants to dress to impress, and can easily go from work to the bar afterward... if he were to go out after work, that is. Personality. I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do Quiet, reserved, and overall just a polite guy, Gavin hardly seems like the type of person who’d ever cause any trouble. He keeps to himself and prefers to stay that way, all things considered. It’s not that he’s shy, or incapable of striking up a conversation, but more like it takes a lot to get close to him. Really, you could hang out with him for a few months and still only know the basics about him - that he’s a professional photographer, he’s close to his younger brother, and he doesn’t drive. A lot of people don’t even put two and two together and figure out that he’s gay, because while Gavin is open about it, it’s not exactly something he discusses. What a lot of people don’t realize are all the feelings he buries deep, because if he doesn’t get close to someone, then he can’t get hurt again. Having lost his last serious boyfriend in a drunk driving accident, Gavin never wants to feel that sort of loss again, and though he says he’s over it, he’ll still always want Anthony back. And no one’s ever going to replace him. In truth, Gavin can be something of a pushover, thanks to his quiet nature. He was picked on a lot growing up, thanks to his sexuality and being just a touch different than everyone else around him. Though he’s taken steps to protect himself, including self defense lessons, Gavin is more likely to walk away from a fight than to stand up for himself and fight back. Unless you quite literally push him into a corner, Gavin will not strike back. That’s why having his brother around has been such a godsend, because Langston is louder and will run his mouth for him. If there’s one person Gavin will always protect, it’s Langston, because for a long time it’s just been the two of them. Oh, their parents are still around, somewhere, but both of them have betrayed the brothers in one way or another. As such, Gavin more or less considers them dead to him. Gavin likes to think he’s done well for himself, all things considered, and he will continue to do so in the future. He’s just not prepared for the curveball that’s going to be coming for him, since Langston’s been bitten and turned. I believe that beauty magazines promote low self-esteem I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone Gavin Matthew Worthington was born the first of two sons to Louise and Rory Worthington, in the winter of 1982. Though the family was far from rich, it wasn’t like they suffered, though his father did work long hours and lots of overtime so that way his wife could stay home with the children. In that sense, there was something about the family that was very “traditional,” in the sense that his mother was expected to stay home and have dinner on the table when their father got home, and their dad was to be the breadwinner of the family. Growing up, Gavin didn’t connect with his father much, likely because when he was around, all he wanted was a beer and to be left the hell alone. So when his brother Langston was born, five years later, it was a godsend. It gave Gavin someone to play with, someone to look out for, even when it became apparent that his little brother was much more the troublemaker than Gavin would ever be. The neighborhood kids would tease him for being so quiet, something they deemed to be “weird,” and it didn’t get any better once they were in school, either. Gavin wasn’t really the type who wanted to go out and play on the swings or play kickball or tag, because he sucked at those kind of games. Honestly, couldn’t they just let him be, so he could read his books? It made him an easy target for bullies, and Gavin didn’t know how to stand up for himself. Every time he’d come home with another cut or bruise, or worse, if his parents had to come pick him up at school because of his injuries, his father would always snap at him, “A real man would know how to fight back.” But Gavin didn’t. The kids who hit him got in trouble for what they did - if they were caught. And Gavin didn’t want to hurt anyone. School was never somewhere where he was happy, and as the bullying got worse, his grades suffered, too. Which, of course, just gave his dad a reason to yell at him more. In truth, his dad was always yelling about something, and Gavin knew he’d never have his dad’s approval no matter what he did. And, it seemed, no one in their family was good enough for Rory. It didn’t help that he knew his mother was up to something, when people would call the house always asking for her, but would never say why. Gavin, too innocent at the time, never questioned it. Gavin was 12 years old, and he remembers the night clearly, when his parents had another one of their knockdown, dragged out fights, this time in which Rory accused Louise of cheating on him. That night Rory packed his suitcase and stormed out of the house. Gavin figured that his dad would be back in the morning for breakfast, and if not then, then surely he’d be back for dinner that night. But he never returned. He called, always to speak to his mother, never to the boys, and it was Louise who had to sit the boys down and tell them that their parents were getting divorced. He’d never seen his mother so upset before, shaking before him, saying over and over that she had no idea what they were going to do once Rory was gone. The family didn’t have any money, seeing as Louise had never worked a day in her life, and now she was going to have to go out and find a real job. Gavin, to his credit, tried to take it all in stride. With his father gone, he was now the oldest and therefore man of the house, and while his father might not approve of him, he’d do his best to make sure Langston, at least, didn’t have to worry about anything. Easier said than done, considering that Gavin was 12, Langston was 7, and both of them could have used an actual support system in their lives. While Louise started spending more and more time out of the house - and not telling the boys where she was going - Gavin more or less assumed responsibility for Langston. He was the one who made sure they had dinner on the table every night, even when they ate it by themselves, he made sure Langston did his homework, all of that. He became a brother and a father rolled into one, and Langston was the only one who really knew what was going on at school. There wasn’t much his little brother could do to help him, but at least being able to tell someone was a relief in and of itself. It was around the same time that Gavin started realizing that, yes, he was different, just like all the kids at school claimed. Whereas most boys his age were starting to outgrow the “girls are icky” phase, he never really did. And then there was the one party he was invited to - something so surprising that Gavin actually went, just to see what happened - and a rather awkward round of Seven Minutes in Heaven. He found himself locked in a closet with one of the girls, who giggled and tried to make out with him, even going so far as to take his hand and lay it on her breast. Gavin felt nothing - no attraction, no joy, nothing. He kept thinking about the boys who’d been there, how he much rather would have been locked in a closet with them instead. The moment the door opened, he booked on out, running out of the party. Yeah, that pretty much cemented his lack of a social status for the rest of his school career, but Gavin didn’t care. He liked boys. And he didn’t want to tell anyone, because he knew his life would only get that much worse for it. His next encounter with sex wasn’t exactly a happy one, by any stretch of the imagination. He was just shy of 14 when he woke up one night to Langston screaming for him. Gavin, of course, jumped out of bed and ran over to their mother’s doorway, where Langston was standing - and found that their mother was in a rather compromising position with a man they didn’t know. Langston had a nightmare, went to go get Louise, and found that the real nightmare was in her bed. Gavin couldn’t say anything - because hello, he did not want to see any woman, much less his mother like that - and Langston was already shouting, trying to figure out what was going on. Gavin simply grabbed his brother and forced him to look away, while the guy in bed with Louise muttered something about how he “didn’t pay to have no kids watching, I’m not into that kinky shit.” It became apparent then what Louise had started doing to “support” their family - she’d turned to prostitution. Who her pimp was, if she was working for herself, Gavin didn’t know, but it was the closest he’d come to anger in his entire life. Gavin didn’t want anything to do with that, and how exactly she’d fallen into that path of life, he would never know. His father had been right, the night he left, Louise probably had been cheating on him, and this had probably been going on for longer than either of the boys knew. The next morning at breakfast, she wouldn’t meet their eyes, as if she were ashamed. She wasn’t ashamed enough to stop, or to get a legitimate job, as there were more than one occasion where Gavin knew she had one of her “clients” over, could hear them going at it and everything. So, Gavin started planning. He could file for emancipation, but he wasn’t able to support himself, and there was no way he’d leave his brother behind. He started working whatever odd jobs he could, saving the money away for the future, to someday move out. On top of that, Gavin finally started taking self defense lessons. No more getting the shit kicked out of him just because he didn’t know how to block a punch. He first found his love of photography while in high school, joining the yearbook staff and taking pictures of all the school events that he could. When he got to college - because like hell he was going to settle for the shitty life his parents had - he planned to major in business and photography, in hopes of opening his own studio one day. After a while he more or less stopped talking to Louise altogether, because she factored so little into the plans he had going for him. Gavin’s loyalties were to Langston, making sure that the boy had everything he needed, and when Langston started acting out for attention, Gavin was there to try and reign him back in. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t, all depended on the situation. Not all secrets can stay hidden for long, however. He knew he had to tell his family about his sexuality, or at least Langston. The brothers were close, and he was sure Langston, at least, would be accepting of it. That, and Gavin did not like the idea of living a lie. He was going to get hell for it either way, so he might as well be honest about it with the one person who mattered. The news didn’t faze Langston in the slightest, but Louise? She did not take the news well, reminiscent of those fights she used to have with Rory right before they got divorced. Gavin didn’t know what to say at first, but he didn’t have to, Langston did it for him. Hearing a ten year old kid telling his own mother to “shut your fucking twat-mouth” was funny in hindsight. At least Langston didn’t look at him like he was a freak. Gavin moved out the moment he turned 18. For the most part, Langston stayed with him most nights, because though Gavin’s apartment was small and kind of cramped, at least it wasn’t with Mommy Dearest the Whore. He got into the University of Michigan on partial scholarship, and worked whenever he could to afford the rest of his tuition. It wasn’t easy, working all the time, but Gavin made ends meet and he knew he was making a better life for himself than either of his parents could have ever predicted for him. He was 19 when he first met Anthony Williams, a fellow student in one of his business classes. It wasn’t that Gavin didn’t think the guy was attractive, because he was, but Gavin believed that he was too involved in his schoolwork and actual work to actually pursue a relationship. At that point, Gavin had just started working as a photographer’s assistant, and he had even less time on his hands. It didn’t stop Anthony from saying hello and the two became friends. Getting hit on was something new for Gavin, because he was used to being able to slip into the crowd unnoticed, so the first time Anthony asked him for a date, Gavin said no. And he said no to the third and fourth and even ninth and tenth times Anthony asked. But Anthony was still persistent, and finally, he convinced Gavin to take a night off so he could take him to a proper dinner. When Gavin said, “This feels a lot like a date,” Anthony only grinned and answered with, “Who said it wasn’t?” Their relationship built up slowly, but steadily; by the time Gavin reached his 20th birthday, the two were definitely a couple. Gavin was in love, and though he knew there were plenty of people who didn’t agree with it - including Louise, who only met Anthony once and that was enough for Gavin thank you very much - he didn’t care. The next four years were probably the happiest in Gavin’s life. Langston moved in with him officially as soon as he was old enough, he graduated from college, and he started freelancing on top of working with the same photographer who first took a chance on him. Gavin had dreams of having his own studio someday and he started saving money for that day, a goal both Langston and Anthony supported. Then, in late September of 2006, Anthony and Gavin went out for dinner and a movie. Nothing special, just your typical date night, and it was well past midnight when they got in the car to drive back to the apartment. Gavin was driving, and he remembers the story Anthony had been telling him as they went, laughing, looking forward to snuggling up in bed with him and falling asleep. No one could have predicted what happened next. A drunk driver ran a stop sign and crashed right into the passenger side of the car. Anthony was killed instantly, and the paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Gavin was thrown back through the driver’s side window, head first, cracking his head open and breaking both of his legs. It was amazing that he didn’t break his neck, all things considered, and he was flown via helicopter to Detroit. The doctors kept him in a medically induced coma until the swelling in his brain went down. Gavin has no recollection of the accident itself, only of headlights coming towards them, and then darkness. When he woke up, almost a full two weeks later, he found Langston at his bedside. He asked for Anthony, wanting to see his boyfriend, to know he was okay, and it was his little brother who had to tell him Anthony was gone. He’d even missed the funeral while he was out, and as such missed his chance to properly say goodbye. Gavin has never forgiven Anthony’s family for that, though he has little reason to talk to them anymore. Langston told him that Louise came to see him, too, and before Gavin could say anything about it, Lang also told him that he’d had his mother thrown out of the room. At least Langston knew his brother well enough to respect his wishes. The next year of Gavin’s life was particularly rough. Not only did he have to go through physical therapy for his leg, he also ended up in therapy to deal with the trauma from the accident, too. He never did quite get over losing Anthony so suddenly, and whenever the shrink wanted to talk about his family, Gavin just laughed. Yeah, no. He didn’t a therapist to tell him that he had issues with his parents, he’d figured that out for himself, thanks. So long as he didn’t have to deal with them, then he was fine. The one thing Gavin did learn, however, was that he couldn’t drive anymore. It wasn’t that he didn’t know how, but the moment he tried to climb back into the driver’s seat, he started having a massive panic attack. And it didn’t get better, no matter how many times he tried. It would trigger flashbacks to the night of the accident, and it would leave Gavin an absolute mess. Rather than push himself through it, Gavin decided that he could learn to live without driving at all. He could walk everywhere if he had to. Langston had a car, and he knew his little brother wouldn’t mind helping him out. And he could always call a cab. He did know, however, that Anthony would not want him to give up completely, and that meant Gavin had to get on with his life as much as he could. That meant taking all the money he put away and actually opening his own studio, like he’d always dreamed of. He named it Kaleidoscope, which had been one of Anthony’s name suggestions, all those years ago. It’s been open for just shy of a year and a half now, and this past summer, Gavin did a ton of wedding business, which has helped considerably. He’s able to support himself, mostly support Langston too, given that he doesn’t make all that much money wise, and he’s doing what makes him happy. His life isn’t perfect, but it’s a start, and it’s much better than the life he could have had if he’d followed in his parents’ footsteps. Since the Light of May: Given that he had no idea there was anything besides humans out there, the Light of May was a huge shock to Gavin. He’s not scared, but still cautious, because now there’s all sorts of things out there that he doesn’t know about and could potentially get hurt by. His reaction to someone telling him they’re a vampire or elemental or whatever will more or less be to raise an eyebrow and go, “....Okay,” and continue with whatever they were talking about. He is, however, watching the fight for supernatural rights with interest. If the supernatural races can get the same basic human rights they should have, then the gay community should be able to have them, too. Just saying. Again, it’s not something Gavin will ever be vocal about, because it’s Gavin, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t always in the back of his mind. In the course of the last month, Gavin’s getting a crash course in dealing with weres, ever since Langston was bitten. He doesn’t care what his brother is now, because he’s still his brother and that’s never going to change. It does mean that Gavin is trying to learn all he can about bitten weres in preparation for Langston’s first full moon, knowing that after he shifts, then they’ll finally know what kind of were he actually is. Gavin isn’t prepared for what the moon means, what it’ll be like to deal with a hybrid were, or the fact that Langston’s cage isn’t going to be strong enough to hold him. Big changes are coming for Gavin, and he’s only starting to realize what that actually means. Skills, Strengths & Weaknesses. I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned Special Skills/Abilities: Skilled photographer. Has been taking self defense classes for years, not so he can get his black belt or anything crazy like that, but mostly so that way he can fight back if god forbid he ever has to. Actually loves to dance and is quite good at it, but it’s harder to find someone who will go dancing with him. Personal Weaknesses: Driving - Ever since the accident, Gavin hasn’t been able to bring himself to get behind the wheel of a car, much less actually start the engine and drive anywhere. He knows it wasn’t his fault, but he was driving when it happened and it always brings him back to what happened that night, even when he can’t remember everything. As a result, he walks everywhere he can and either calls a cab or gets someone to drive him if it’s too far. And forget about getting in the car with anyone who’s been drinking, because no. Designate a driver or Gavin will find someone sober to drive your drunk ass home. No one else needs to go through what he did. Relationships - Anthony’s been gone three years, and yet Gavin still hasn’t really moved on. It takes a lot for him to let someone in anyway, and he can’t help but compare everyone new to Anthony’s memory. It’s not fair, and he knows that, but he still does it. Anyone who wants to try to start a relationship with him has got to be patient as hell, because it’s going to take a long time to get anywhere with Gavin. You’ve been warned. Langston - As far as Gavin’s concerned, Langston is the only family he really has and he’d do anything for his little brother, including being responsible for the bitten were. Langston was also one of the few people who didn’t judge him when he finally came out, and that means the world to him. Pushover - Gavin never really learned how to stand up for himself, at least not verbally. He eventually took self defense classes so at least he’d stop getting the shit kicked out of him, but telling off those who have nasty things to say about him and his lifestyle? Yeaaaaaah, nope. He’s much more likely to walk away and let those feelings breed inside him rather than confront them head on, and it leads other people to believe that he’s weak. To an extent, they’re right. Parental issues - Daddy walked out when he was 12. Mommy turned into a whore because her own issues meant she couldn’t handle Daddy leaving. Top it off by the fact that his mother flipped her shit over learning he was gay, and needless to say they’re not high on Gavin’s list of favorite people. He doesn’t know where their father is and he doesn’t give a rat’s ass where their mom is. Probably better not to mention either of those two to him, all things considered. Smoker - It’s a bad habit, he hates it about himself, and he keeps promising he’ll quit... but he never does. He does think that, if this is the worst of his vices, it could always be worse. It’s just really not all that good either. His former injuries - Though Gavin is technically healed up from his accident, there are still days when he'll wake up with his knees stiff and everything aching, especially if it's been raining for a while. There's not much Gavin can do about it but take some ibuprofen and wait for it to pass, but those are the days when he doesn't care how much a cab ride's going to cost him, he's not walking anywhere. Personal Strengths: Photography - He’s really good at it, and for a long time it’s been his escape from everyday life. Now it’s his career and his studio is starting to pick up business, which makes for a happy Gavin. Resilient - Though a lot of bad things have happened in Gavin’s lifetime, he still manages to make it through, and that’s a feat all on its own. Things might not be perfect, but they’re better than they were, and that’s a start. Whatever comes next, he’ll handle that too somehow, even if he’s not prepared for it. out of character.
