The last book of the year....made it more than halfway to 50, so woooo!!! Thanks Candy, this is fun :)
Title: Saint Therese of Lisieux: The Story of a Soul Author: St. Therese, translated by John Beevers Copyright date: 1957 Publisher: Image Books How many pages: 166 How long it took me to read: About 2 weeks
The Good: It was interesting to read about a saint's life through their own eyes, even though it wasn't so much an autobiography as it was a journal...well, when it came to the writing style, anyway. It was very humbling, and helped to change my view on things, and honestly...improved my life somewhat.
The bad: The only bad thing is that it's reeeeally hard for me to stay focused on non-fiction. That's my only problem.
The Verdict: Simple, but inspiring.

Category: Really messed up fiction I learned about this book from: Idk, high school??? This book was purchased at: Borders Other books by this author: Sometimes a Great Notion, Demon Box
Main characters: McMurphy, the Chief, other patients. Favorite characters: I really liked McMurphy...and the Chief When and Where the story takes place: A mental hospital...in the 60's I guess? Plot in a nutshell: Boisterous, ribald, and ultimately shattering, Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is the seminal novel of the 1960s that has left an indelible mark on the literature of our time. Here is the unforgettable story of a mental ward and its inhabitants, especially the tyrannical Big Nurse Ratched and Randle Patrick McMurphy, the brawling, fun-loving new inmate who resolves to oppose her. We see the struggle through the eyes of Chief Bromden, the seemingly mute half-Indian patient who witnesses and understands McMurphy's heroic attempt to do battle with the awesome powers that keep them all imprisoned. What I liked best: The humorous moments What I liked least: All the loss....
Overall Rating: Hard to follow at times, but good!

He stumbles upon his deceased father's copy of the book, it unlocks a bunch of conspiracies and mysteries that pretty much change his life. Son on Tuesday, I was sitting in my living room, and my sister was across from me. She asked me if I had a bruise. I said "uhhh...no?" Not knowing what she was talking about. She pointed out something on my shoulder. I looked down, still unsure of what it could be. There was a lump there, that was basically skin, with a slight discoloration at the bottom.
Honestly, my first thought was a tumor. Which isn't negative!! Erica, my nephew's gf, has a non-cancerous one on her leg. So I called her, and what she described back to me was pretty much what I had. I also asked around at work and such to get opinions. I heard bug bite, boil, cyst, etc. If it didn't go down by Friday, I was going to make a doctor's appointment. BUT I worry about EVERYTHING so on Thursday I scheduled it for the next day.
So guess what... I WAS RIGHT. It's a fatty tumor. It's nothing to be worried about, it's not dangerous. And it's not HORRIBLY noticable. My doctor thinks it looks like I have more muscle on my right side. I decided to name it Hank. And Hank is here forever until I decide to go see a plastic surgeon and have it removed. I guess a lot of people who do this are unhappy about the scar they'll get. Which, that doesn't really bug me at all. So I guess that's what I'll do when I can actually afford it. Bah.

This year, hundreds of thousands of people will hear the words "You have breast cancer," and there's a good chance that some of them will be people we know and love. I have chosen to fight back against this disease and help make a difference by participating in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, and I hope you will join me by making a donation in support of my effort.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a noncompetitive walk that takes place in 120 communities across the country. From Arizona to Maine and Washington to Florida, Making Strides walkers unite to honor breast cancer survivors and to educate women about early detection and prevention. And of course, by raising money to support the American Cancer Society fight against breast cancer, we help fund groundbreaking research, public awareness campaigns, efforts to ensure all women have access to mammograms, and free programs and services that improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
I hope you will support my efforts by making a donation using my personal online fundraising page. It's safe and simple. All you have to do is click the link below and follow the few easy steps. Last year, 450,000 Making Strides participants raised $45 million ... and they did it one donation at a time. So, whether you're able to give $5 or $500, every bit truly does help. Hope starts one dollar at a time. Hope starts with me. And hope can start with you. Thank you in advance for any support you may be able to offer.
