ANDROMEDA TONKS; oo3 [06 May 2010|11:23am]
I think I'd like to find someone to mind Nymphadora for a few hours.

Ted, darling, I thought we might be able to go out to supper sometime this week, just the two of us.

I've had the strangest feeling lately that someone's following me. It's pretty ridiculous, really, especially given that I work in a public place, take public transportation, and there are always crowds of people around. And yet --

Nymphadora's feeling better. She's back at school, which gives me some time to myself on my days off. I still haven't been able to switch my Sunday shifts at St. Mungo's, which means I leave poor Ted alone with our daughter most of the day. I'm half expecting to come home to find him collapsed in exhaustion and Nymphadora standing over him, triumphant.

ANDROMEDA TONKS; oo1 [12 Mar 2010|04:00pm]
Nymphadora stayed home from school today with a running nose and fever. She took it very well, surprisingly. She adores school and her friends there, and hates missing -- a shock, I know, to have a child who enjoys attending school -- but she was feeling so awful that it didn't take much convincing to get her back into bed.

I made up some noodle soup for her and set her up in the sunroom with a new book while I worked on a sketch. It is a good thing that I have a late shift at St. Mungo's. By the time Ted returns home from the evening news, I'll be ready to go. Hopefully Nymphadora will be feeling better by then; I'd hate to leave a cranky little girl in the care of my husband after a long day at work. Hopefully nothing too trying happened in his viewing area today. I really must remember to turn on the telly more often...

ANDROMEDA TONKS; worst memory [10 Mar 2010|10:41pm]
andie; worst memory

Andromeda wore a simple white long-sleeved dress. It clung loosely to her, hiding the slight swell of her stomach. Earlier, Ted’s sister had gathered her hair back, weaving white ribbons and periwinkle into her curls. She slipped her feet into the satin ballet flats waiting for her. She didn’t want to look beyond the door, didn’t want to see her worst fears confirmed. Because, deep down, Andromeda knew they wouldn’t be coming.

It was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. She’d been prepped for it her entire life. Etiquette class. Trips to the dressmaker. Poise and posture lessons. Lectures on becoming a proper, pureblooded young witch. Only she wasn’t going to walk down the stairs in Number 12 Grimmauld in the traditional ivory robes. She wasn’t going to be taking her place alongside some poised, dangerous pureblood man, like her sisters had.

As she heard the first tones of the organ play, she walked to the door. Muggle traditions were silly things. The priest had asked who was going to give her away. Ted had answered that her father was dead. Might as well be dead, she thought, remembering it. Because he sure wasn’t going to step foot in a Muggle Catholic church to watch his daughter marry a mud—a Muggle born.

She slid out of her dressing room, dragging a small bouquet of white flowers from the end table. She caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror as she passed it. Beautiful, is what Ted’s sister had said. Ted will say the same thing in a few short moments, she knew. They would be married, sign a license, and then she would be officially accepted into the Tonks family. It was a dangerous and terrifying thing.

But she was a Black. And she wanted to be accepted with them as well.

She peeked out into the sanctuary of the small church. Ted’s entire family was seated on the right-hand side. She recognized some of his friends from Hogwarts. Her eyes drifted to the other side—the “bride’s side”—it was empty.

She couldn’t go out there like this. It was embarrassing.

With her back against the cold stone wall, she closed her eyes. She had delivered the invitations herself, dropping the thin white envelope into Cissy’s hand before the door closed, setting it on the table beside Bella when she gave her her back, shoved it at her parents, pleading.

Why did she think they’d change their mind? Her heat beat quickened. It was silly. She’d been disowned from the moment she confessed her relationship, the baby she was carrying, introduced Ted to her parents—she’d tried everything she could possibly think of to remain a Black even as she was changing her last name legally.

Andromeda knew it was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. She was marrying the man she loved, going to have his child in just a few months, and yet—and yet, Andromeda wanted to cry and run away instead of walk down that aisle alone.

ANDROMEDA TONKS; biography [09 Mar 2010|03:56pm]
NAME: Andromeda Chrysanthe Kallisto (nee Black) Tonks; Andie to her intimates
DOB: 3 July 1953
BLOODLINE: pureblood of the noble house of Black
YEAR & HOUSE: Slytherin class of 1971
OCCUPATION: Healer, obstetrics/gynecology ward, with a focus on neo-natal care, St. Mungo's

FAMILY: husband, Ted Tonks; daughter, Nymphadora Tonks (aged 6); sisters Bellatrix and Narcissa; brothers-in-law Rodolphus Lestrange, Lucius Malfoy

SPECIAL ABILITIES: Andie is accomplished in both Occlumency and Legilimency, which is a Black family trait that she cherishes. Also, she is an accomplished Healer.
LIKES: Painting, vivid colours, jazz, nighttime, the stars, constellations, astronomy, coffee, licorice, dogs, silk, babies, children, her daughter, her husband
DISLIKES: Estrangements, family disloyalty, war, violence, death, rodents, spiders, chocolate.

PERSONALITY: A conversationalist. An artist, so somewhat eccentric. She thrives in the nighttime. She is completely devoted to her husband and daughter and it shows (part of which was she was trying so hard to prove his worth and to validate her disownment). She doesn’t mind a lazy day. She usually keeps to herself. She's always been slightly rebellious. She likes to change her hair color, especially now that it's obvious her sister is someone whom she no longer wishes to look like.

HISTORY: Born second daughter to Cygnus and Druella Black in 1953, Andromeda discovered the easiest thing to be was invisible. While her older sister, Bellatrix, soon stood out as domineering, stubborn, powerful, and brash and her younger sister, Narcissa the perfect pureblooded, dainty daughter, Andromeda was, well, ordinary. To begin with, this made Andromeda want to sink into the woodwork, but after her sorting at Hogwarts (Slytherin, like every other Black), when it became apparent that she didn’t even stand out at school (she overheard someone near her say, “Oh it’s just another Black, of course she’s a Slytherin” after her sorting), she became somewhat of a rebel.

At first it was little things—painting instead of schoolwork, taking a liking to Divination over more respectable studies, becoming friendly with (pureblooded) members of other houses. When it became apparent that she needed help in Charms, Professor Flitwick assigned her a tutor. A Muggleborn tutor, a Hufflepuff, a boy a few years ahead of her. She was instantly entranced by his jovial, laid-back nature, and soon she found herself calling him a friend. He graduated and went on his way before she did, though Andromeda could never quite shake Ted Tonks from her mind.

After her graduation from Hogwarts, Andromeda entered the Healer-in-training program at St. Mungo's, despite protests from her family about women not needing to take a job. Even though she still lived at home, she greatly enjoyed her work in the childbirthing ward. She was, several times, given lists of acceptable matches, pureblooded men with whom her parents wanted her to make a match. She dated some of them, usually finding them stuffy and maniacal and not at all what she wanted for her life. It was just happenstance that she ran into her former tutor, Ted Tonks, at a Muggle market.

In late 1972, Andromeda discovered she was pregnant with Ted's child and, squaring her shoulders, told her parents. Not only was her family aghast at her disgraceful pregnancy, but it was made worse by the fact that Ted was Muggle born. Even though she begged her parents to come to her wedding, they flat-out refused. Regardless, Andie and Ted married in a small Catholic Muggle ceremony. Less then a year later, their daughter, Nymphadora, was born and on the same day, Andromeda was officially disowned from the Black line, blasted off the family tree by her aunt Walburga, and pegged as a blood traitor. Despite her efforts not to show it, this hurt her a lot and while she never regretted her love for her husband or daughter, she is still upset about it.
