Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Ami and I have been here in Seattle for a year. Things seem to be going pretty well at the hotel, though I did get a call the other day from the place where I used to work in LA. They offered me my job back at a higher wage and a starting bonus on top. I told them that I'd consider it. I like it up here and Ami seems to be doing pretty well, but I think she'd be happier around her uncle and her grandparents .. not to mention all the friends she still calls on a weekly basis. The only problem is we'd have to find housing down there that was pretty cheap but would allow us to keep Maddie. There's absolutely no way we could get rid of that dog now that we've had her this long. It would absolutely crush Ami if we had to.

So, my dilemna is that I have to decide which is the better decision. Do I stay here in Seattle at my current job which pays less but allows us the opportunity to own a home and some land? Or do I take the higher paying job back in LA that gives us the comfort of family but the prospect of a much smaller place to live?

I guess I should call a realtor and at least look into some options before deciding, shouldn't I? They gave me a week to figure it out. I won't be able to buy a house in that time, but I'll be able to weigh the pros and cons a little better. Plus, I already know what Penn's vote would be. My kid brother turned himself into a bit of a recluse in our absence. Don't deny it, Penn. We both know it's true.

Alright, so I have a lot of thinking to do. If anybody other than my brother has an opinion, feel free to share it. I'd love to get some outside standpoints.

You could always get the best of both worlds -- move back to LA (I vote yes on that one, by the way) and maybe find someone willing to split rent or something. Or a duplex or something like that?

I suppose I could do something like that. But how many people would willingly lodge with a guy who has an almost ten year old daughter and a dog the size of minature pony? How many trustworthy people, that is?

Tyler will probably kill me for even generalizing this sentiment. I'd do it in a heartbeat if the roommie wasn't a complete ogre. And if the dog and daughter weren't miniature ogres.

Well, I'm not sure I quite fall in the ogre category, but I'm probably pretty close to it.

I don't know about that one. Almost can get pretty damn close. Especially at 5 in the morning.

Tell you what, cowboy. If you and your mini-ogres need a place to crash while you're looking for primo real estate, mi casa es su casa. Mi casa's a three bedroom condo, so there's plenty of room.

Well, thank you for the offer, Lynnie. If I decide to go with the job in LA, I might just take you up on it.

Los Angeles. Definitely. Penn would love it, your parents would love it, and since I'm hearing mini-Belmont is give Ami siblings, I'm sure she'd love it too. ;) I'm actually loving that, by the way. It totally weirds your brother out, so it's really kinda hilarious to think about.

Seriously, though, if you and the kiddo and the dog need a place to stay, you're always welcome to crash at my place there. You'll just have to share with me and my mini-me from time to time when we come to visit. It's an option, at any rate!

I think I'm leaning towards LA, actually. I miss home and I know that Ami misses her Uncle and her Grandparents. As for the whole giving her siblings thing, I'm not so sure about that one. Jilli is a sweetheart but I don't think she realizes that I'm old. Ha! And it really doesn't surprise me that Penn is weirded out by it considering he thinks of the Belmonts like sisters.

Man, I'm getting offers from beautiful women left and right! Thank you for that, really. I definitely wasn't expecting people to offer up room at their own places while I look for something, but it just goes to show there are still a few genuine kind souls left out there. If I end up needing somewhere for Ami and me to crash, I'll let you know, okay?

Haha. Well, if it wasn't already obvious, I'm running on little sleep and a lot of sugar. That sentence should have read "...and since I'm hearing mini-Belmont is planning to give Ami siblings..." Wow. I approve. If only because I think it's funny. And besides, you're not that old! And even if you were, there are a great deal of pretty hot old guys running around out there!

Hey, what are friends for? You guys are like extended family. Which means I totally need to kidnap Ami for a day and take her shopping to spoil her senseless to make up for Christmases and birthdays past. I can't believe she's gonna be ten! Put a rock on her head and make her stop growing!

And since my 'primary' residence at the moment is in Austin, there's more than enough room, so the offer totally stays on the table. All you gotta do is let me know. :)

You know, I'd half consider it if only to completely weird out my brother, but I'm pretty sure that Jilli is quite capable of finding somebody closer to her own age who has a whole lot less baggage. Besides, it's just a harmless crush. I'm sure she'll get over it. And we can just all stand around and laugh at Penn until she does. But thank you for saying I'm not old. Though .. I'm inching closer to forty with each passing year. So .. I'm still feeling pretty old.

It's impossible to believe she's going to be ten in January. I still remember her being this tiny little baby that almost fit in the palm of my hand. It's insane how fast they grow up. How old is Lyric now?

I heard something about you moving to Austin. How are you liking it?

Hey, we can't always control who we like! And regardless, we all have this knowledge to hold over Penn. Which works since he said that Dani and I had cooties and well...yeah, that was just a ridiculous conversation altogether.

Yeah, Lyric just turned two in July and oh my god. It seems like yesterday that she was this tiny thing with tubes and monitors and I was spazzing over her every breath. Now she runs and talks and it's like "who is this child and what happened to the tiny helpless one?"

So far, I'm loving it. I've lived here before, so this isn't all that new, but it's my first time really...out on my own, I suppose. I've always lived with people before in some way, shape, or form. It's about time I took on a new adventure.

You're right, we can't. And what's this about you guys having cooties? I thought he stopped thinking like that in second grade.

I can't believe that Lyric is two already. Seems like only yesterday I heard that you were pregnant. Though, from the pictures I've seen, she's absolutely adorable.

I'm happy to hear that you're doing something new and that you're enjoying Texas. Sometimes, breaking the ties and going somewhere else for awhile .. it's the best idea in the world. Why do you think I'm in Seattle? Ha!

I think, to Penn, we'll always have cooties. But that's okay, because I can come up with ways to annoy him. So far, this Glee karaoke mission is doing a really good job. :)

Lyric's a little handful! She talks, she sings, she knows her fair share of sign language. It's insane. And ha! I was so unprepared to be pregnant, it wasn't even funny. I was so completely one of those girls who you see on the news that didn't know until they went to deliver the baby and you're like "how did you not know?" Now, I can totally understand. I need to get new pictures of her done. Maybe when we come home for the holidays. Her father is a photographer, after all.

I so needed this. Just to get my head back on straight. Not that it really seems to be working, but I'm getting there! It's colder here than I'm used to right now - Texas, I swear, skips 'fall' altogether and jumps straight into winter, but it's kinda nice. It's weird being away from everyone, but honestly, most of the time I feel like I'm moving in a different direction anyway.

And that is my humble opinion.

I'm starting to think that everyone has that opinion. I also started looking into houses down there and talking with a realtor here about selling the house. So .. hopefully by January at the latest, we'll be back in LA.

Well if I may be so bold here, the two of you are more than welcome to stay with me if you should ever need and/or want to in the meantime. I have more than enough room in this big 'ole house of mine, especially since Jillian's been dividing so much of her time between here and New York, and it would be my grand pleasure to have you guys.

Man, I need to start talking about moving places more often if it's gonna keep getting me invitations to stay at beautiful women's homes. You, my dear, make number three. Insane!

I think that we'll most likely end up crashing at my parents' house in Pasadena if we can't find a place between now and then. The director at the hotel wants me to start in December so that doesn't really give me a lot of time to prepare. I'm currently trying to con Penn into coming up here next month to help with some remodeling work that will get the house a better price on the market.
