Not quite as controlled as her mother, nor quite as outgoing as her aunt, Azalea likes to think of herself as just the right amount of both. She takes her job and responsibilities seriously, she honors her marriage within boundaries she and Garrick has set, and she only uses abilities in manipulations when there’s an absolute need for it… or if she can see how her ‘target’ might benefit from it – it’s amazing what a little well-placed boost of self-confidence can do for a nervous high school student.

She loves music and song, events and celebrations and can usually be found either humming or singing to herself, just like she is not one to hold back when it comes to partying.

APPEARANCE

Azalea is eternally 25 years old, the age of maturity of her people in the Spring Court. She has been that age since 1900 and aside from the length of her hair, her appearance has changed much since then.

Although not quite as tall as other Fae, Azalea has legs that seems to go on for miles, a feature she isn’t above highlighting when picking what to wear.

HISTORY

The eldest daughter and only child of Fae Taisy Pepperhorn, Azalea was born in 1875 in what is modern day Arlington, Virginia. Azalea, however, doesn’t remember ever living there, though, as Taisy moved their tiny family-unit of two, to a small community outside of Sleepy Hollow, NY, when she was just six months old.

The cabin on the lake was a far cry from the Court, which she only visited on special occasions. Even so, she never lacked for anything. Her mother raised her to be cautious, but still encouraged her to explore and learn, and with her uncle, Sam, she never truly felt like an only child.

At Court, she also learned how being the eldest mean that she had certain responsibilities, such as ensuring the family lineage. Azalea was well aware of that, however, Taisy never put any of those expectations on her. She wanted her daughter to grow up and live the life she preferred and at the pace she preferred. Still, following tradition, Azalea was introduced to the Court at the celebration of the Spring Equinox following her 25th birthday in March 1900. This was where she met Garrick Astergrove.

Garrick was handsome and fun, only a couple of decades older than Azalea, and easy to talk to about anything and everything. Recognizing their mutual attraction, Taisy gave her permission for Garrick to court Azalea, and over the following year a solid friendship and love grew.

Azalea married Garrick on the following Spring Equinox on March 21, 1901.

Both Azalea and Garrick knew that they wanted children, but they were in no hurry. Instead, they wanted to get a proper base for their shared life established and then they wanted to see the world together. The base came first, when the couple bought a small plot of land by Heureux Lake, not too far from where Azalea grew up and by autumn, they had their own little cottage.

Sam would still come up from the Court to visit, and soon Az and Garrick would join him in exploring New York City and the humans that seemed to be in constant flux there. Though she never truly knew what happened, she sensed the grief in Sam after he had withdrawn back to Virginia. He was still family, of course, but their time together was cut down significantly, leaving Az and Garrick to themselves.

Through the years they travelled the world, helped if there was a need for it, always careful not to let the world discover what they were. They found themselves at parties and celebrations, bringing various lovers to their shared bed, and taking any opportunity that presented itself, if both of them were interested. With the help of investors they met on their journeys, they managed to get several portfolios built in various locations, that ensured them the finances to keep travelling, even if there were no work to be found. From time to time, they returned to Tarrytown, either because they needed a couple of years of peace and quiet, or because The Court required Azalea’s attendance,

When the Fae came out, Azalea began to long for the stability of being in one place. She saw how her aunt Iris got her degree and how it opened doors for her and knew that was the direction she wanted to go. For the first time, Az and Garrick did not agree on what and where they wanted to go. Garrick wanted to continue travelling, explore the world without the limitations that had been imposed on them before, while Az wanted to explore their newfound liberty by working directly with humans. The separation was amicable, and in no way an end to their relationship. Rather, they knew they had an eternity, and agreed that when they both felt the time was right, they would meet up in the house on the lake in Tarrytown.

After Azalea got her degree in vocal music education, she worked for several years as the vocal director at a high school on the West Coast. She’s returning home to Tarrytown, as she’s now ready to reunite with Garrick.
