HISTORY
Childhood - Sirius was raised in the Black family, a notoriously rich and powerful pureblooded family known for their staunch support of keeping wizard blood pure and blatantly obvious prejudices against almost any other race or creature other than pureblooded wizards. From an early age, Sirius was a little rebel. He never fully understood or supported his family's views, and actually actively tried to go against them. His mother and father, Orion and Walburga Black were horrid parents, constantly forcing their views on Sirius and doling out brutal punishment whenever he dared to oppose them, be it physical, psychological or magical. Over the years Sirius has grown to hate his family, especially his parents, and it has fully embedded Sirius' rebellious and punk rock nature to push against authority and think for himself.
The Marauders - Thanks to whatever divine intervention that allowed Sirius to break away from his parents and his family reputation, Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor along with a few boys he befriended on the train: The Marauders. James Potter, Peter Pettigrew and Remus Lupin. Sirius fell into an almost instant friendship with them and throughout their school years became thick and thieves (sometimes literally) and practically brothers. Sirius even came to the Potters on vacation breaks or long weekends to stay when home life became too hard to deal with. Sirius even did what he least suspected he'd ever do: he fell in love with one single person, Remus Lupin. Though the four of them have had their disagreements or rocky patches, they've always remained friends and Sirius always finds his way back to Remus.
Black Ops - During the first wizarding war Sirius happily joined the ranks of the Order, supporting anything that would go against Voldemort's power. However, Sirius' part to play in the war was a bit different than his friends and fellow allies. War is ugly and sometimes requires wet work that many that consider themselves on the side of 'good' are not willing to stoop to. But sometimes the work needs to be done and someone has to do it. Sirius' naturally rebellious nature and recklessness and morally gray actions caught the attention of Dumbledore and Alastor Moody. Sirius was placed into a sort of black operative position, often carrying out top-secret missions and doing deeds too dark and too dirty that the likes of Aurors, Dumbledore and others refused to, but he felt pressured to do it anyway. Otherwise...who would? And if someone wasn't there to torture, seduce, murder, kidnap, steal and lie for the good guys, who would? And would they even have won?
Brave New World - Once the war had ended Sirius had a very difficult time finding his place in the world. He didn't exactly miss being a black ops spy doing the dirty work of his higher-ups, but the world was too...slow. It was boring. What was he to do? Get some day job like any other poor schlub? In an attempt to find some purpose Sirius applied to be an Auror but was rejected. Apparently he did 'not play well with other', 'had a penchant for rebuking authority', and 'often broke more laws than he upheld in the process of apprehending a suspect.' Struggling to find himself, Sirius finally settled on doing what he did best, but by his own rules. Offering himself up as a sort of 'Indiana Jones for hire', Sirius started his own private investigation firm, offering his services to the wizarding world as a cursebreaker, investigator and retriever of rare objects and artifacts. It offered him a new source of fun, productivity, and income without burrowing too deeply into his PTSD and limiting his dark deeds from morally gray to a more off-white.
The Bookshop & Remus - After the war Sirius also purchased a storefront in Diagon Alley for Remus as a sort of celebration gift and a way to help Remus get on his feet. If no one would hire him there should be no reason why Remus' brilliance and brain should be wasted! Because of social prejudices against werewolves, and should Remus' identity ever get out, Sirius keeps the majority of the shop in his name, but Remus is entirely the mastermind behind it's contents and how the store is run. While not galavanting off on adventures, Sirius helps run the shop, specifically the upkeep of Remus' collection of erotica and tasteful pornography, some of which may or may not include faceless photographs of himself.
