CHARACTER INFORMATION NAME: Kurt Wagner. CODENAME: Nightcrawler. AGE / DATE OF BIRTH: 16 // 01-05-1997. SCHOOL: Xavier’s School of Gifted Youngsters. GRADE: Sophomore. HOMETOWN: Witzeldorf, Bavaria, Germany. SEXUALITY: Heterosexual. APPEARANCE: Kurt could be considered a good-looking fellow: he’s tall, thin, lanky, a very typical teenager with limbs that seem just a size or two too large for him. He’s got dark hair with a curvaceous wave to it, light eyes and a seemingly perpetual smile on his lips. All that, and a sexy butt to boot. However, there’s one thing that’s not that typical about him: Kurt is, undeniably, a mutant. That sexy butt? Has a tail sprouting from it: a devil’s tail, with a pointy end. Furthermore, he’s got a thin coating of fur covering his body, a fur that’s the coloured the deepest shade of midnight blue and that has a velvety feel to it. His long, agile limbs end in oddly-shaped feet and three-fingered hands, both blessed with strong, capable digits. To top it all off, he’s got a pair of yellow eyes and two elfish ears that are just as pointy as his canines. Kurt is an out an proud mutant, because he has no choice not to be. Despite his outlandish, almost demonic, appearance, Kurt isn’t exactly ugly. He has the sort of appearance that begets prejudice, but as soon as people are capable of looking beyond that, they could see he’s got a strong, limber body and a beautiful smile, usually accompanied by a hearty laugh. He’s got a boyish charm to him, a natural sort of beauty that is highlighted especially when he’s performing acrobatic feats. As for clothes, Kurt wears loose jeans and pants that can easily accommodate his tail. When he feels safe, he prefers plain shirts and sweaters, but when he goes out and about, he goes for hoodies and layered clothes – garments he can hide in. He’ll even wear shoes then, things he hates because he’s always got to force his odd feet into those. He’s not accustomed to formalwear, and his school uniform is strange to him. He wears it obediently, though, albeit a modified version: he has a hole in his pants for the tail, and he eschews the footwear. PERSONALITY: Contrary to his appearance, Kurt does not have a dark, brooding character. He’s got a sweet, affable disposition and is always willing to lend other people a hand. Despite the things life has thrown at him, Kurt hasn’t lost his sense of humor, nor his sense of compassion. He actively tries to do the right thing, which ties into his religious upbringing. He is a devout Catholic, which guides most of his moral compass. While he sometimes has difficulty reconciling the Bible as it is with his sense of tolerance, he can usually work out where stands without compromising his own beliefs and values. As such, he prefers to live by the tenets of ‘turn the other cheek’ rather than ‘stoning those who lay with men or choose to eat seafood’. Since Kurt was born with his looks and since he was raised in the circus – an environment where most people didn’t comment negatively on his odd appearance – he isn’t self-conscious about the way he looks. He is careful though, especially around those who aren’t familiar with him, and people who flinch away from him because of his looks still hurt his feelings. Still, he’ll try not to show this hurt, hiding behind a careless, goofy veneer of friendliness. It helps that Kurt is, in general, careless, friendly and goofy, so people don’t go looking for more than what they see. Kurt has a wild imagination and he’s addicted to stories. He reads lots of comic books and regular books and he is thrilled to have access to a television and the internet, because they can bring so much entertainment. Kurt likes acting out scenarios and playing the hero, especially in action-adventure type-settings – spies, pirates, cowboys, knights, as long as it’s got action and a few damsels in distress, he’s good. Kurt’s bright too, though staying with the circus has left his education a little by the wayside. He knows literature and language well – his English is very advanced – but the more formal subjects like math and biology elude him. It’s why he has been placed in the sophomore year. Kurt is a loyal, sensitive friend who is quick to trust people who are nice to him. He might even be too quick to trust, forgiving other people's slights and flaws too easily. He isn’t stupid, however, and he isn’t afraid to call people out if their behavior strikes him as wrong. He can be a bit of a doormat afterwards though, not really sticking to his guns when somebody has upset him. Kurt forgives, forgets and moves on. He’s also a big fan of girls, though he doesn’t entirely know how to handle them. He usually treats as if they were guys, though he is aware of their… special parts. MUTATION/POWERS: Kurt’s appearance comes with a few special features. The most obvious one is his prehensile tail, which serves as an extra limb and which is strong enough to support his body weight. His yellow peepers give him enhanced night vision and his oddly-shaped fingers and toes enable him to cling to any surface he chooses to attach himself to. Furthermore, he’s got an uncanny sense of acrobatics and balance, making him a quick and capable opponent that is very hard to beat. He can jump, summersault and leap better than any pro, even in confined spaces. Too bad the Olympics would disqualify him for being a mutant. Finally, his dark fur enables him to blend into the shadows very well, making him hard to see when he’s hiding in the dark. The above are all innate abilities, things Kurt was born with. However, he has another mutant power, one that manifested later. Kurt has the ability to teleport short distances – in fact, he travels through another dimension, using that one to teleport in this one. This explains the cloud of brimstone that accompanies Kurt’s ‘ports. It also comes with a loud sound (‘bamf’) where the air rushes in to fill or flee away from the space that suddenly has become occupied or unoccupied. Kurt can bring along people or items when he ‘ports, though this expends a lot of energy, and can leave the passenger nauseous, dizzy or even unconscious: the teleportation takes a lot out of a normal human body. (It does the same to Kurt when he overextends himself.) The same goes for distance: the farther away Kurt teleports, the more it takes out of him. As such, Kurt is good at teleporting short distances in rapid succession, but making one big jump can tire him out easily. Six feet is his 'safe' distance, and anything further will make him winded. His current max is the length of a half a football field, though this can be expanded on, with training. He will not be able to teleport more than the length of a football field, even with training, and his safe distance will cap at twelve feet. The teleportation comes with an innate spatial awareness, where Kurt can measure and gauge distances, lengths and heights instinctively, so as to not teleport into solid objects – doing so would kill him. This awareness is acute for Kurt’s line of sight, but the longer the distance, the more difficult it becomes for Kurt to get an accurate reading of his surroundings. SKILLS/ABILITIES: • Kurt is an extremely skilled acrobat. See also: mutation/powers. • His circus training has left Kurt with some flashy skills and tricks up his sleeve. He is a decent fencer, he knows how to perform a few fire-breathing stunts and he can do a few magic tricks. • That same training has left him with a good sense of dramatics. • Having picked something up from helping out his sister, Kurt is oddly good at applying make-up. HISTORY: Even for Margali Szardos, a psychic at a local circus, it was an odd occurrence: on a river-bank near a waterfall, she found a crying baby in the bushes, tightly wrapped in a blanket. The baby was covered in blue fur and had bright yellow eyes and pointy ears. Margali had an inkling why the baby had abandoned and decided to take it in, raising him together with her own children, Stefan and Jimaine. She decided to name him Kurt Wagner, the last name gleaned from the castle where she found him nearby. Kurt blended in with the circus perfectly, and soon became a beloved fixture among the various carnies. He even got to participate in the circus as the Incredible Nightcrawler, soon advertised as an amazing acrobat. During his off-time, Kurt read whatever he could get his hands on, including the bible. He also played with the other kids a lot, especially with Stefan, staging elaborate fantasies where they were the heroes. During one of these adventures, Stefan made Kurt promise that, should Stefan ever become a villain, that Kurt would take him out, permanently if need be. It was a blood oath, though Kurt didn’t take it entirely seriously then. When Kurt was 14, his actual mutant power finally manifested. It was during a performance, and Jimaine had an accident while walking the tightrope. She slipped and she was plummeting to her death while Kurt watched from the sidelines. He teleported over, caught her, and teleported her to safety. From that day on, Kurt wasn’t just a mutant in appearance only. Earlier this year, Margali simply… disappeared one day, and her three children were left to fend for themselves. Jimaine and Stefan disappeared ever so often, following leads. Kurt sometimes joined them, but it was all to no avail. Both Jimaine and Stefan were ostensibly gone when the circus hit a town called Witzeldorf in Bavaria. Right around that time, the town was hit by a killing spree, where children and teenagers were murdered. One week later, things had escalated beyond control. The circus was banned from leaving, and several carnies had been apprehended. Kurt tried to plead their case at the local townhouse, but it was to no avail. And then, in the ensuing riot, it turned out that Kurt’s appearance wasn’t an outfit. Kurt tried to teleport to safety, which cemented the villagers’ belief that Kurt was a demon. They knocked him unconscious. Three days earlier, someone had tipped off the Xavier/Stark School that a mutant in Germany was in deep trouble. When Sage arrived, an unconscious Kurt had been tied to the stake and the people were about to burn him alive. When Kurt came to, Sage was in the middle of extracting him. She promised him a safe place at the school, and Kurt agreed to come along. The killings stopped, and the murderer was never found, but the circus was allowed to leave the town. Kurt still keeps in contact with them. MISC. INFO.: Kurt is German, you can hear it in his accent when he talks. PLOT IDEAS: • Family! Kurt can figure out who his mother is and who his father is. • Foster family! Stefan can come collect his debt (wanting Kurt to kill him because he was, in fact, the murderer), and Margali can appear under the guise of a master sorceress. • Doing the training thing and helping others out with their acrobatic abilities! • Meeting a girl. Learning how to talk to them. Possibly even kiss one, yes? PLAYER INFORMATION NAME: Cris. EMAIL: find.other.worlds.than.these@gmail.com. AIM: crissiks TIME ZONE: European Central.
