He flirts with just about anyone he likes and finds attractive, if only to amuse himself. If he doesn’t like you or doesn’t know you, he’ll be distant and aloof and observant. If he really doesn’t like you, he’ll cut you down to size with his sharp tongue and scathing wit. Occasionally, his sarcasm is even directed at his friends, who hopefully don’t take it too personally at this juncture. He’s not afraid to say what he wants to say. He’s proud and vain and can be a bit of a peacock. He likes to mess with people’s heads sometimes. His temper can be short and though he keeps it under wraps much of the time, there are times it can be absolutely explosive. He has a very expressive face and though he has a great “resting bitch face” and a mask when he wants, he generally uses his face to good effect, whether it be humor or something else. Strengths: Witty, charming, observant, incredibly independent. Unfailingly loyal to the very few who have earned his trust. Weaknesses: Vain. Flirtatious. Selfish. Incredibly independent Hobbies: Pestering Draco is a favorite hobby, though it has intent to help. He likes to collect debts and manipulate people and generally get his way. Collecting information and distributing it. Surprisingly, sketching, but he rarely shows them to anyone. Cooking Enjoys: Pestering his friends, shocking people, flirting, sex, taking people down a notch with his sharp tongue, pretty people Dislikes: being one-upped, betrayal, making mistakes. Asking for help. Stupidity. Stupid people. History Childhood: Father – Leonardo Capulet (deceased) Mother – Oya Zabini His mother is descended from African royalty, and she looks the part of a Nubian goddess. She has been—rightly—called the most beautiful woman in the world by many men. She doesn’t even remotely look her age, and it’s not just glamours. There were several husbands in between her first and Blaise’s father, Leonardo Capulet. Not necessarily purebloods by the English definition, but all had ‘royal’ blood. That is the Zabini definition of pureblooded. Leonardo was a form of wizarding royalty in Italy. He didn’t even live to see Blaise born. While growing up, Oya cycled between ignoring and neglecting Blaise and heaping love and affection upon him—a dichotomy of the love and hate she feels for men. Blaise always adored his mother, often from afar, and cannot help but try to please her, though he often feels that he fails in this because he fails to garner her approval and love. Not many people get to see Blaise and his mother interact; she is often away, and when he visits he’s usually alone. Some might be disturbed by how their relationship goes when he’s in her good graces—it seems to consist of flirting and courting of affections that mothers and sons don’t usually share. The few who do see them often wonder if a line has been crossed, but no one really knows. Blaise certainly would never deign to answer such a question. Of course, the other side of that odd relationship is when there is only cold silence and anger. Or much yelling and occasionally spell casting, when both temperamental people have a row of more than epic proportions. The way he was raised meant that Blaise had to cultivate a sense of independence very early. He virtually raised himself, and though he tries to get his mother’s good graces, at the same time he resents her and does things to shock her—and consequently many other people. The men in his life came and went with little consequence to him as a child, especially after the only one he got attached to died. He rarely trusts people because of all this—he’s afraid of being abandoned, deep down, like he always has been. The only real connection he retained from childhood besides his friendship to Draco and Pansy is his ancient house elf, Buona. He was raised between a manor in Italy and the one in England. Oya approved of Narcissa and so approved of Draco, though she isn’t fond of Lucius. Hogwarts wasn’t much of a challenge for Blaise. He fit in Slytherin house well, though his family enemy, Montague, attended there and he spent a fair amount of time subtly warring with each other. (Shakespeare had something right – the two families feuded long ago in the wizarding world. The thing he got wrong was that the deaths of the young wizard and witch only created peace for a short time, and then they were back at it worse than ever.) He excelled in most of his classes, and if he wasn’t a blood purist like many of the English purebloods, he still is something of a purist. However, when the politics and warring started, he did what the Zabinis always did in these situations – stayed as completely neutral as possible. The Zabini family made money on both sides of the fence, so to speak, in almost any confrontation in wizarding history. It’s rumored that they have a black book called the book of debts, that records every debt the various families owe to his and if and how it was paid. Some families are still in the red. This neutrality put a severe strain on some of his friendships. He tried to support without being involved in the specifics. In short, he made himself consistently available and helped out his few personal friends without debts being applied. And if paid properly, he’d do small things for both sides, but he never got involved politically if he could help it. Adulthood: Once he was out of school and the war was over, he was able to choose pretty much anything he wanted to do – or not do anything at all. He had the money to have that as an option. However, Blaise wasn’t one who enjoys pure idleness. The wake of the war left a lot of damage, but the one thing he’d learned from both sides and from his family was the power of information and its distribution. So more out of curiosity than much of anything else, Blaise started work at The Daily Prophet. Information mongering was his family’s specialty, and he felt he should be more fully informed on this aspect of it all. Surprisingly he likes the work thus far. He is good at talking to people for stories. He’s always had a knack for that. Romantic: Blaise dated around a fair amount in school. Nothing actually serious, and pretty much mostly girls. People at the time were pretty sure that he only flirted with guys to make them intensely uncomfortable. He didn’t have time to deal with anything serious on top of everything that was happening, though, especially with Draco and his few other close friends. He was Pansy’s first, and they have found a lot of comfort in each other on and off over the years, though they’ve never called it a relationship. A few people close to him would know he is capable of commitment and deeper feeling, though a lot of people doubt it. He’s just very private with those feelings.
