Charles Dupree |
In Character Info |
Name: Charles Jean Dupree Nicknames: Chuck, Chuckles, Professor, Coach, CJ Age/DoB: 30/August 1, 1982 Major: Music *Minor: Theatre Status: Superiore Education Level: School Professor Year: N/A Owns or Owned by: River Extra Activities: Adviser to Music Club, Coach on Swim Team Housing: Physical Description: Charles stands about 5 foot 11 inches and weighs about 170 lbs. His build is lean and slender, more like that of a swimmer than a bodybuilder. His eyes are bluish gray in color, and often quite expressive. His hair is a short cut wavy crop of dark brown light black, more often appearing to be mussed as if his hand constantly was being run through it rather than combed. Personality: When he wants to be, Charles can be very smooth and charming. He is the child of two con artists, and when he wants to make an impression, that shows. He often knows just what to say, or just how to act, in order to get something he wants. He has an easy smile, and is often joking with people, but when they say the devil had a silver tongue, Charlie is one of those that are being talked about. He can also be very manipulative. Charles often enjoys playing people off of each other. He enjoys the entire game of pitting one person against another, or using someone in order to get something he wants, he has no real problem with it. He enjoys it enough, even his friends won’t be immune to his game playing, as he very much enjoys getting into people’s heads. Charles can also be quite callous when it comes to other people. Most people to him are little more than marks, or means to an end. Those who aren’t either of those, really only there for his amusement. There are rare exceptions to this, but for most people, this is how he sees the world and everyone in it. Charles is also very ambitious. He has gotten a taste for power, and has enjoyed every moment of it. He is always on the look-out for schemes or plots that will advance his position or wealth, or even just provide him with contacts and people to know. A good deal of his own plots or manipulating people tend to have this goal in mind. On another note, however, Charles is very loyal to those few people he considers friends or earn his own loyalty. Once you fit into this category, there is nothing he would not do for you. Lie, cheat, steal? Not a problem. Perjure himself in court? Definitely. Step in front of a bully trying to beat you up? That too. He can also be very hedonistic, though this goes beyond just seducing women. If it is something he enjoys, he enjoys reveling in it. Whether it is a hot date, good music, or even a good glass of wine, if it something he is enjoying, he will draw the experiences out and enjoy every single moment of it. Enough that sometimes, it distracts him from other things he should be doing. Couple of his passions are music and anything to do with the water. His guitar is his life, above and beyond everything else. If he is doing nothing else, he is playing on the guitar, writing music for it, or even shopping for new ones. The same can be said for the water, Charles is a born surfer. He has been known to drop everything to go catch a set of killer waves, or try out a new board. But he also enjoys anything else that involves water, whether its swimming, diving, or even sailing, if it can be done on or in the water, he has done it. Charles also has a very competitive streak to him. He enjoys competitions, and games, and trying to prove himself superior to others. The actual payoff never really matters to him, as he’ll put just as much effort into trying to get the head cheerleader to catch him, as he would if a hundred thousand dollars was on the line. History: Charles parents met at Pearson. Pierre and Alemya had been a pair of students there during the later 1980s. In fact, both had been what was considered Inferiores there and met because of Superiore actions. Not that either really mentioned the exact details, or just who their Superiores had been. But, they had fallen for each other before they had graduated. But, Pierre and Alemya were never really what one would call normal. Pierre himself was, in truth, the son of con artist. His father had found out about the school, though not the exact details of the school from a mark he was conning. He used her connections to get Pierre into the school as well, knowing just how useful Ivy League credentials and contacts can be. When Pierre found out the truth of the school, he thought it was the perfect place to work his own magic. For her part, Alemya had a normal upbringing, but she had a lust for power that found its mate with Pierre. Together, they became a pair that created all sorts of mischief and trouble for the other students in the school. Though, they never married, they stayed together after leaving Pearson. The two began to work their own cons together, working marks and making a name for themselves. When Charles was born, he became part of their cons as well. From the time he could walk and talk on his own, he was being taught how to use people for his own needs, and those of his parents. He learned how to pick pockets, charm people, and read body language. The first several years of his life would have been out of some people’s dreams. His family was always on the move, rarely staying in any one place for more than a year. Charles saw more of the country in the first ten years of his life than most people see in a lifetime. He would learn a number of things on the road as well, but he was always happy. Despite their less than moral lifestyle, his family still cared for one another quite a bit. But as they say, all good things come to an end. A couple of months after his tenth birthday, his father managed to upset the wrong individual. For the rest of that year, Charles and his parents were on the run from the mob and various other underworld figures. Charles’ mother took him to the west coast to hide out, while his father attempted to make amends. In the end, Pierre was able to make peace with the bad guys, though he still has the limp to prove it wasn’t an easy event. The couple decided to split up after that. It was too close of a call for Alemya, especially with Charles there. Charles and his mother moved out west to Los Angeles after that event, while Pierre stayed on the East Coast. The con, after all, was his blood, and close calls weren’t something that would slow him down. But, his mother had one last trick to play. Instead of starting all over from scratch, she found herself a wealthy older gentleman. She used her charms on him in order to make herself his mistress. A few years later, he had taken her as his wife, and both Charles and his mother were set. His father would move back to New York. He would run a number of cons, before he would go into a more “legitimate” career. Pierre had used the connections he made during his time at Pearson to get himself set up as a stock broker. Once his mother was sure that he wasn’t going to be getting in more trouble, she even let Charles visit his father on his vacations, moving between Los Angeles and New York. But Los Angeles was by far his preferred home. Amongst its people, he felt more at home than in any other place. Everyone had an agenda, everyone had something to hide, and everyone thought they were better than everyone else. Where else would someone like him feel more at home? And the weather was ideal as well. Hot most of the time, and even the ‘cold’ days were warm still. Being who and what he was, though, Charles was more attracted to the wilder crowd. Many of his mornings and weekends were spent on many of Southern California’s beaches. He spent much of his free time alternating between chasing waves and chasing bikinis, and grew quite good at catching both. However, he found nothing quite compared to being within the curl of that perfect wave. It was on the beach that he found his other real passion, music. His mother had insisted that he have some training in playing the piano, since it was something ‘all rich kids did’, but he couldn’t ever get into it. But when he was on the beach, one afternoon, he found himself enjoying the music played there quite a bit. Not that his mother was all too keen on the whole rock and roll thing, but the music kept him out of too much trouble, so she forced herself to accept it. It took a few years, but as he approached it with a dedication he only showed to getting in trouble before that, but he soon learned how to play the guitar, and proved quite good at it. Before he graduated high school, Charles had organized a band from some of the other kids at the school. He was always the groups lead guitarist, though he did do the occasional drums and vocals. But he really excelled at the guitar. While he had a decent singing voice, the group never lacked for talented singers. Even though he often made the other guys jealous, they were more than happy with his talent for getting good-looking women as their lead singers. With his graduation, however, his parents decided that he should attend the same school they did. The contacts and influence that such a school could provide was more than beneficial, not only for Charles, but for them as well. Only this time around, they had the money to actually pay for his tuition and have him come in as one of the superiores, rather than how they went to the school. Pearson was a change for him. This time he actually had power over people, which was something very new for him. And, it was something that he found he rather enjoyed. It didn’t stop him from being a sneaky little thief from time to time, or being a manipulative bastard to others. He never cared about the whole superiore/inferiore system, though he did take advantage of it. He always saw a challenge in pushing others to their limits or talking people into doing things they didn’t think they could do. Right after he graduated with his bachelors from Pearson, his band (The Rising Hellborns) went public with their music. They managed to score a number of gigs and a contract as well. Though, they would never hit mainstream, they had more than a few hits on the underground club circuit and with raves. The band toured for a number of years, and released three albums before the group got tired of the whole scene and broke up to follow up individual plans. Somewhere along the line, Charles’ focus changed. He went back to Pearson to get his MBA in music, and his credentials to teach. It didn’t take long for him to finish off his degree with the school. During that time, he was also heavily involved with several of the clubs in the school, both the Music and Drama. He was also an assistant swim coach for the team during all that time. A couple of years ago, he accepted a position as a music teacher for the school specializing in string instruments, though he does also teach a piano and drum class as well. While he is no longer a member of the drama club, he has become the adviser to the Music Club. And this year will be his first as the Head Coach for the swim team. *Random Facts: Likes: Surfing, Women, Music in general, jamming on the guitar, partying, getting into trouble, anything on or in water, gambling.
