Sean Connolly loves everyone ([info]_connolly) wrote,

I find it funny that the reaction to a win and a loss in a competetive sport often seems to be rather the same. You win? Have a drink. You lose? Have a drink. The tone is different, of course, but both always seem to be the same general reaction. I guess because I don't drink, I'm incapable of understanding it.

I always find myself hesitant to go to a party. Don't get me wrong, I love a good celebration, and especially after a particularly grueling game. I always feel like the odd ball out just moping in the corner with no one to talk to. A loss is even worse to the non-drinker. Then, it's just plain uncomfortable.

Nonetheless, I'd like to say that I am more than proud of the Irish team and all that we accomplished. We played a great game, luck simply wasn't on our side this time. Looking forward to a much needed week of vacation before trials and pre-season practice begins.

I wrote yet another letter to Sarah. I keep telling myself that this year, after the cup, I'm going to visit. I'm just so afraid to go back to the compound. The way they looked at me and Aidan the day we left... even Sarah, in her hand-sewn dress with no shoes on, sitting on the porch of Aunt Susan's house, looking at me like I was Satan himself. I just don't think I could bear to go through that again.

I wonder if she had a boy or a girl. I wonder what it looks like. It would be almost ten years old by now. She probably has at least a few more. In a year or so, she's going to find out if he or she is magical or not. I'd hate for Sarah to have to go through the whole experience of being called a devil-worshiper again. Lord knows I will be here for her if it happens... if she will let me, of course.

The same can be said about tea. Have good/bad news? Let me make a cup of tea.

What are you doing with your week?

I don't really drink tea, either. I do drink herbal tea here and there, but in general I try to steer clear.

I was thinking of traveling to America.

It's good for you. Well. It can be when you drink the good kind.

Be safe, make good choices, and bring me back something.

Herbal tea is good for you. I just don't care for caffeine much.

I will bring you back a spider a surprise. Promise.

You don't have to worry about not being able to drink morosely after a loss. Haven't I taught you to eat your feelings? Why else was chocolate invented?

Chocolate is lovely, though I prefer fruits myself. I suppose a chocolate covered strawberry couldn't hurt.

It was a lot of fun just to have the chance to play again. I can't be two dissatisfied with making the team back to back, even if we didn't come out on top. It was someone else's turn, this time.

That's a good attitude to have. If it'd been me, I'd be throwing a fit right now and then eating an entire carton of ice cream. Or crying inconsolably into a carton of ice cream. Either way, there would be desserts.

How don't you understand? When you're happy, you do things that make you happy. When you're not, you do things that make you happy, to try to fix it.

That makes a lot of sense, actually. I guess I just don't understand why alcohol makes people happy. There is a feeling of ... falseness, in my opinion. A false happiness seems to defeat the purpose.

I can't speak for everyone, but alcohol doesn't fulfill my every need for absolute happiness. It's just... fun. It's enjoyable. It's like a hobby.

I'm aware of the difference of tone. I just don't care to drink in either situation. I'd rather direct my energy elsewhere. But in this business, falling behind on the social dynamic can be detrimental to the career

Poland was fine. Could have been better. It's a shame that you couldn't be there.
