Personality
Oh, boy. It’s complicated.
Here’s the thing — it’s no big secret that Crowley, a demon, very much used to be an angel. He’ll tell you so. Aziraphale would too. And Crowley will complain that it wasn’t his choice, that he was just a questioning sort and back then (really, really back in the day) that’s about all it took to fall in the first place. But it wasn’t really a fall, was it? It was a slow meandering descent for Crowley. Which meant that he’d gotten really, really good at questioning, at biting with sarcasm and distrust — at planting seeds of doubt in others as well as in himself. By the time he stopped to think about what he was doing, he was already sporting black wings and some very unique eyes. TLDR Cynicism, sarcasm and an inherent skill for lying come naturally to Crowley.
Crowley is (as far as demons go) pretty well meaning. He’s got a set of morals that make him seem practically decent in terms of humanity — he’s not really interested in killing for the sake of it, or hurting animals and he certainly isn’t interested in mass destruction or the world ending. He likes humanity for the most part - he likes their advancements and technology, he likes their art and their media and entertainment. It might be safer to assume he likes their things and the neutral space they live in more than he likes them, though. That said, it should be very, very clearly stated that Crowley is not good. He’s a demon, and he’s a demon for a reason. He is, above all, incredibly self serving. He’ll do good or bad in order to achieve his own goals (and will happily drag his best friend along for the ride if he think it’s in his best interest) and gives little thought to who might suffer in the process. And when he decides to do what’s generally assumed to be the job of demons — to spread evil and hatred, he does it in a way many might consider poorly. But is it? As a demon, it’s his job to be bad. So why would he strive to be good enough at something to impress anyone? He makes a name for himself mostly by taking credit for other peoples’ (humans) work, and for creating large scale minor inconveniences. TLDR Crowley is self-serving, slothful and exceptional at finding loopholes.
On the other hand, it’s possible that Crowley is less evil and clever than what he thinks he is. Just as often as not, his evil plots and scheming are not thought through very well and affect him just as much as it does others. The M25 seemed like a great idea until he was stuck on it too, and messing with the phone lines seemed super hilarious and evil right up until it wasn’t. TLDR It’s possible that he simply isn’t thinking things through very well, and has the shit luck of often walking into traps he set himself.
Oh. And there’s this: Crowley is an absolute dork with a flair for dramatics. He thinks he’s cool. He really does. He dresses in fashionable darks, he listens to all the best music (even if his car somehow always turns that music into the Best of Queen, although, arguably, that’s also the best music), he’s seen all the best movies. Here’s the thing, though — he takes it all a little too far so he’s somehow just a caricature of cool instead of actually being. He over quotes films, has 007 style bullet hole decals on his car, is not averse to giving Bruce Lee high kicks a try and more or less constantly just takes everything to Extra territory. He added a J to his name just because it’d sound good. It’s not short for anything. TLDR Oh, he extra.
He’s also just… he’s got this thing. Where if he likes someone, really likes them, he’ll be loyal for just about ever. He will include that person when considering his own self interests — or revolve his self-interests around that person. And while he’s generally friendly with just about everyone when it suits him to be, he’s only got room for one very special person. Aziraphale. That person is Aziraphale. That’s it. TLDR Ineffable Husbands are known.
Powers (if any): Ineffable.
Kidding. Sort of. Not really. His powers are most certainly over 9000 and vary widely. Most notable in his arsenal of “miracles” is the ability to warp reality to whatever he chooses it to be, as well as having general influence over mortals. And sometimes also demons or angels who are slightly lacking in intelligence. He’s got wings, so he can fly — but let’s be honest. He prefers to drive.
History: here Canon Point: Post Television Show Items: Nothing but the clothes on his back and the sunglasses on his face. And boy is he gonna be mad about the lack of his precious Bentley. Did you read the rules, premise and FAQ? Sure did. Yes electricity, no internet. What would you like to see or do most with this character? Explore what Crowley’s gonna be like post near-apocalypse, because he’s both gotten what he’s wanted, sure, but at a pretty big price. He’s lowered his defenses a lot and he’s practically a whole new person. It’s exciting! He hates it!
