That was something, at least. Which meant she could at least enjoy her coffee. She'd just taken a deep gulp when he began his game of questions. And the first one made her cough a little. She certainly hadn't expected such a blunt question.

"I know what he did to Katherine's family," Elena answered after a moment. She was looking out the window by then, unable to look at Kol while she discussed it, not wanting him to see any emotions playing in her eyes.

"When she turned vampire. He killed her whole family in retaliation." She couldn't go through that. Couldn't lose Jeremy or Damon or Stefan or any of her other friends because she'd been selfsih.
