Elena wasn't entirely surprised. Even without modern pollution, it probably would have been safer to drink fermented beverages. Especially given how many diseases there had been.
However, as with any instance where Kol had shared any hint of humanity, it was all Elena could do not to stare. Sipping her drink she studied him a long moment, trying to divine what, exactly, he was. Then, feeling a bit self-conscious her eyes lowered.
"Some better than others," she answered. Better tasting, at least. But whatever did the trick, right?
