Elena couldn't help but feel on edge. For all that Stefan and Damon both were trying to keep her from being overwhelmed, she felt exactly that way. She was freaked out, worried about Klaus, about what tricks he would pull that night. Part of her recognized that he was playing on her fear, that everything he did was to unnerve her. And it was working.

Damon was making a round, keeping an eye on everything, Elena dancing with Stefan in the middle of the floor. She would have thought it was the safest place on earth...if she'd known what Klaus looked like. As it was the thought that he could be anyone only added to her panic. But as Caroline and Matt entered, Elena nodded to them. "You should go talk to her," she advised. "Let her know what's happening." Nodding, Stefan's eye caught someone else's and as he twirled her out, Elena found herself twirled back in to face a new partner.

She offered a small smile. "I didn't think you could dance."

Elijah still couldn't believe Klaus had undaggered him. Sure they had been partners all those years, but he assumed his brother was still angry with him for trying to stop him all that time ago with Katerina. Elijah was of course still planning on stopping his brother, but he wasn't advertising that fact. He was going to be a little smarter about it this time, because he knew that Klaus was even more a handful when he was vengeful about something.

Elijah had showed up at the dance that night, hoping he would find Elena. She needed to know what she was really getting herself into, and if he had to the one to be honest with her he would. He hadn't learned the truth about his brother walking around in the body of another man, but he did know of Klaus' witches, and he was sure he could handle himself against them. He had survived this long after all.

And if he did run into Klaus he could always say he was there to help him. Elijah may be a noble man, but he was better at lying than most people realized. For the moment he was fading into the background of the dance, but then he spotted her dancing with the teacher. There was something off about the man, but Elijah would have to get close to discover the truth. So, for the moment he waited, quietly watching the crowd to see if he could Elena on her own.

Ric seemed a bit nervous. Or at least a little off, and Elena attributed that to nervousness. She was doing her best to not lose it, so they were a bit awkward together. Finally, unable to take it any more, she excused herself. She was questioning, yet again, why they'd thought it would be a good idea to go to the Decade Dance, knowing Klaus was laying in wait for her.

Not wanting to lose it in front of everyone, she hurried for the girl's room, head ducked to hide tears. Except, head ducked meant she didn't notice the man in her way until she'd collided with him.

"I'm sorry," she apologized. But the words died on her lips as her eyes met his. "...Elijah." Shit.

	When he saw Elena leave he followed her, cutting her off and blocking her way into the bathroom. When she ran into him and he realized she was crying he instantly felt a little awkward. 	"I am here to help you" he admitted. "Even though I probably shouldn't. Just might be the one thing that gets me killed....again" he said with a little of his own anger threatening to show through, but he forced it down and then continued. 	She'd forgotten where they were, that they were in a gymnasium just a few feet away from Stefan and Damon. Either of whom would likely throw a shitfit if they saw her talking to someone who was supposed to be daggered. "You protect me," she repeated. "What does that mean?" 	She gave a short laugh at that. "And you think Stefan and Damon are just going to stand back and let me agree to that?" She questioned. "They barely let me go to school with Klaus around." 	She looked up at him a few moments, trying to decide if he was telling the truth. Trying to verify if she could actually trust him. And obviously she decided that she could. 	That definitely didn't make her feel any better. And Elena had to lean against the wall, steadying herself for a moment as tears sprung to her eyes. She wasn't safe anywhere. "Okay," she answered, voice soft. (Reply to this) (Parent)
