Her heart was thumping as he stared at her, Elena sure that she had gone too far, and yet unable to back down now. But then he began speaking and some of the tension faded. No one had ever consoled Damon before, and the thought gave the hard man in front of her a bit more gray in the black and white she'd seen him in before.
"...if she every really loved you?" She'd completed her sentence before she realized it, and Elena shook her head. It didn't matter.
