{{ Anaïs Bolduc "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile." - Albert Einstein
| THE BASICS! FULL NAME: Anaïs Séverine Bolduc NICKNAMES: You try making a nickname out of Anaïs... AGE & DOB: 17, November 23rd 1976 BLOODLINE: Half-blood, just barely. SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Heterosexual, though she's been known to wind up others if they show prejudice. | ||
APPEARANCE! "How things look on the outside of us depend on how things are inside of us." - Anonymous HAIR COLOUR Red. Weasley Red. EYE COLOR Blue. HEIGHT 5'11. WEIGHT How dare you. GENERAL DESCRIPTION Anaïs stands taller than many of her fellow students, being a fairly tall young woman of 5'11. She is somewhat thankful for the attention drawn by her red hair, as it brings the eye upwards past her body which is on the slightly too-thin side. She wishes her body was more feminine sometimes, but recognises that there are advantages to not being knock-out gorgeous. She has her paternal grandfather's blue eyes, and walks with surprising grace given her long limbs and height. She dresses simply, without wearing clothes that are too revealing, but knows what suits her and sticks to it. The way Anaïs wears her hair is often symbolic of her mood. She wears her long hair back in a simple plait for classes, needing nothing more than to keep it vaguely out of the way in order to concentrate. When letting her hair down in the literal sense, she is ready to do so in the metaphorical sense. Finally, when her hair is pulled back into a tight bun on the back of her head - as she usually does for Quidditch matches - it is, as they say, game on. PLAYED-BY: Courtney Halverson
FAMILY! "The other night I ate at a real nice family restaurant. Every table had an argument going." - George Carlin PARENTS: Anthony Bolduc (44, Department of International Magical Co-operation, French Ministry of Magic, former Salem attendee) Annabelle Leclerc (43, Wizengamot Administration Services, French Ministry of Magic, Squib) SIBLINGS: A 19 year old brother, Jean-Claude. He is studying at a Muggle university in Montpellier, and will later apply for jobs in Muggle relations. FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS: The family residence is a large penthouse apartment on the Rue de Rivoli in Paris, France - close to the French Ministry of Magic, the apartment is magically hidden by anti-Muggle spells and overlooks the Jardin des Tuileries. Yes, she's a girl of privilege and no, you won't hear her complaining of it. The Bolduc family are close, though this is partially due to their enforced bonding through international travel and striving for an identity, as their family is mixed between two distinct Francophone cultures - Quebecois and Parisien. Though she fiercely identifies herself as Quebecoise, it is undeniable that the six years at a French magical school have changed her outlook without her realising it. The fact she so resembles her French mother doesn't help.
SCHOOL! "School comes and goes. Family is forever." - Charlie Sheen HOUSE & YEAR: L'Academie de Magie Beauxbâtons, 7th year. WAND: Apple with Phoenix Feather, 9 3/4 inches, whippy. Apple is favourable in love spells, divination, healing, fertility, gaining and preserving beauty and youth. It also awakes otherwordly senses and thus allows spiritual work, in particular dream watching and watching far away places, such as in magical mirrors. This wand is strict, definite and accurate. A very good all purpose, easy to handle wand that shows best results in Transfiguration, allowing for quick and seamless transformations. Can be used for active magical combat, but not the Dark Arts. It can be used to invoke hallucinations, but not direct harm. This wand demonstrates its owner's inclinations towards leadership, and points to his/her position in social groupings. As such, these people are well respected. PET: A Snowy Owl named Franc. CLASSES: Ancient Runes, Astronomy, Charms, Muggle Studies, Potions, Transfiguration THEORETIQUE SCORES: Nothing below the equivalent of an E, thank you very much. EXTRACURRICULARS: Choir, Chess. At home, she plays Quidditch as a Chaser - captaining the Linottes to a win last year - and is vaguely considering Pro tryouts.
PERSONALITY! "The most seductive thing about art is the personality of the artist himself." - Paul Cezanne FIRST IMPRESSION: "Are you sure she's not a Weasley? Maybe a distant relative?" PERSONALITY: If Anaïs had been a Hogwarts student, she would easily have been a Gryffindor. She is full of energy and life, and clever without being bookish. She isn't top of the class by any means, but her enthusiasm for the subjects she likes often carry her through, and she is definitely unafraid to ask questions or to clarify points (and does so frequently, and often, especially if the person concerned is being deliberately obtuse). She is fairly loud and hot tempered, although her time as a team player and captain back home in France have helped her tame that temper to moments where it is particularly necessary... although admittedly, her definition of necessary may be different to that of her fellow students. She is fun loving and vibrant, often up for a joke or a laugh, and whilst she may tease it is from affection 95% of the time. She does her best to get on with everybody - whether they like it or not - and does OK with people for the most part. Having said that, if you are one of the insular sort and Anaïs happens to like you, she'll probably leave you alone. Usually. Having more than a slight ego, she enjoys being admired and dressing well, though she considers others just enough to avoid being too arrogant. While she generally respects privacy, she can't help but enjoy a bit of gossip as long as it isn't too mean spirited, and if it is, she still can't help but be curious. Don't expect her to go digging on her own half, though, as she'll just take what is put in front of her. She doesn't like people who are snobby about backgrounds in general, let alone blood status. With her mother being a Squib daughter of another Squib, and her father being half-blood from a very watered down line, she's a little suspicious of purebloods from what one might call a "traditional" background. Anaïs can totally get on board with blood traitors and rebels, though. As she is French-Canadian by birth, her first language is French with English coming a close second. Her English is pretty much flawless, although she often has the habit of slipping in French words and syntax when she simply can't be bothered. This happens more often with her friends and fellow non-native-English speakers. As befits a Quebecoise, her accent is much thicker than that of her fellow Beauxbâtons attendees, and when conversing in French has a drawl reminiscent of the way someone from the Southern US might sound to a speaker of British English. Currently single, Anaïs has what she describes as a "healthy" attitude towards sex, meaning that she is open minded to the practises of others, as long as they are not physically or emotionally harmful. She has had a couple of sexual partners, both in Canada and whilst living in France, although she keeps her private life reasonably private - you might find her in a conversation about her love life in the general sense, but not mention specifics (no worries there boys - Anaïs doesn't kiss and tell). Anaïs enjoys creativity in her spare time, and can often be found attending to some sort of knitting or crochet project. Textile Artwork being a particular interest, she is keen to see if there is some form of art collective at Hogwarts. LIKES: Quidditch, practical magic, Paris, fashion, art, Typical Quebec Stuff. DISLIKES: Blood purists, snobs, Quebecois Separatists, People Who Don't Like The French, calorie-heavy food, beer. BOGGART: A big ol' grizzly bear. PATRONUS: A black bear. Go figure. MIRROR OF ERISED: Being cheered in front of a crowd, acknowledged for her own successes and achievements.
BIOGRAPHY! "There is no wealth but life." - John Ruskin Born in the middle of a heavy Canadian winter in 1976, Anaïs spent the early years of her life in the small French-speaking town of Thetford Mines, Quebec. At the time, her Squib mother worked as a housewife and her father for the Canadian Ministry of Magic, commuting from the family home to Ottawa and returning on weekends. Hers was a fairly normal - some might say boring - upbringing, with the only thing truly marking her out as different from other girls her age being the fact that her family came from magical stock. The only wizarding family in the immediate vicinity, Anaïs' early childhood was spent being home tutored with children similar to herself, gathering for lessons in a different home each week. It was around this time that she began to learn English, and luckily for her, it was a language she took to well. Her early life continued in Paris from the age of nine, where the family moved to following her father's promotion within his department - now being an attaché of the Canadian magical government in France. Anaïs in particular enjoyed soaking up the culture, but it was time for a big decision when her brother, older by one year, received acceptance letters for both the Salem Institute's school for wizards and Beauxbâtons (which happened to be in the country of their mother's birth - for Annabelle came from Nantes - as well as being the closest wizarding school). Ultimately, the decision was made for Jean Claude to attend Beauxbâtons, as the family had intended to stay in France, now that they had made the move. The decision being made for her brother meant that realistically, it was also made for Anaïs. However, the blow of remaining in France - she'd always wanted to go back home for her schooling - was made softer by a promise that they would spend the Christmas and possibly Easter holidays in Canada, more often than not. Once she began her own studies, life then carried on in a normal fashion for the tall redhead - she did not escape typical schoolyard teasing about her hair and height, but her self-confidence meant that she was able to treat this aspect of her early experiences as character building rather than traumatic. Eventually, the bullies left her alone - giving up on the fact she gave them nothing to work with - and Anaïs settled into school life with gusto. She dabbled in both Quodpot and Quidditch for fun, but it was Chasing she truly enjoyed, and joined a team as a reserve in her second year, gaining a regular position at the beginning of her fourth. Chasing became her number one outlet for the pent up aggression and frustration of her teenage years. Things were almost back to normal from there on, although she still missed Canada terribly and would say so to anyone who would listen. The weather of southern France was an unexpected plus, however. Following the completion of her Theoretiques at the end of sixth year (she had a clear sweep of the equivalent of O and E grades), it took a long time for Anaïs to make up her mind about what subjects to take for her final year of education. Still with a desire to play pro Quidditch in the back of her mind, she opted simply to take the subjects she enjoyed, figuring she could sort out the details later. With the announcement of the upcoming Triwizard tournament, Anaïs signed up immediately and was selected as part of her school's delegation. Always up for an adventure, she knew it was something she'd never get to do again, and she would only regret not trying. Even if not chosen, the chance to spend a year abroad would be the chance of a lifetime.
