PERSONALITY
If Anaïs had been a Hogwarts student, she would easily have been a Gryffindor. She is full of energy and life, and clever without being bookish. She wasn't top of the class by any means, but her enthusiasm for the subjects she liked often carried her through, and she is definitely unafraid to ask questions or to clarify points (and does so frequently, and often, especially if the person concerned is being deliberately obtuse). She is fairly loud and hot tempered, although her time as a team player and captain back home have helped her tame that temper to moments where it is particularly necessary... although admittedly, her definition of necessary may be different to that of her fellows. She is fun loving and vibrant, often up for a joke or a laugh, and whilst she may tease it is from affection 95% of the time. She does her best to get on with everybody - whether they like it or not - and does OK with people for the most part. Having said that, if you are one of the insular sort and Anaïs happens to like you, she'll probably leave you alone. Usually. Having more than a slight ego, she enjoys being admired and dressing well, though she considers others just enough to avoid being too arrogant. While she generally respects privacy, she can't help but enjoy a bit of gossip as long as it isn't too mean spirited, and if it is, she still can't help but be curious. Don't expect her to go digging on her own half, though, as she'll just take what is put in front of her. She doesn't like people who are snobby about backgrounds in general, let alone blood status. With her mother being a Squib daughter of another Squib, and her father being half-blood from a very watered down line, she's a little suspicious of purebloods from what one might call a "traditional" background. Anaïs can totally get on board with blood traitors and rebels, though. As she is French-Canadian by birth, her first language is French with English coming a close second. Her English is pretty much flawless, although she often has the habit of slipping in French words and syntax when she simply can't be bothered. This happens more often with her friends and fellow non-native-English speakers. As befits a Quebecoise, her accent is much thicker than that of her fellow Beauxbâtons attendees, and when conversing in French has a drawl reminiscent of the way someone from the Southern US might sound to a speaker of British English.

HISTORY
Following her graduation from the prestigious school of Beauxbatons, where she had attended due to her father's government role, Anais had little time to celebrate and enjoy the high life. A mere three weeks after the end of her school career, her bags were packed and she was on an international portkey heading out of Paris for the wilds of rural Canada, home to the training grounds of her new team, the Haileybury Hammers. It was strange that she had been there at all. At Beauxbatons she had played Chaser, her quick reactions and flying talent meaning she meshed up well with others. However, a scout for the team had known that one of their own Canadian players was in attendance at the school and had come to see her. Seeing potential for a Beater, they offered her a reserve contract on the basis that she was willing to take advice and train up. The forthright redhead jumped at the chance.

Since 2002, Anais developed her skills at the top team in the Canadian league, though she always felt there were more challenges lying ahead. The US and Canadian teams, no matter how talented their players as individuals, never gained as much respect as their European counterparts and this never sat right with her at all. However, she continued to work hard, stubborn as she was, and was eventually selected for the 2006 World Cup to play as one of Team Canada's beaters. An unconventional choice as she was so much younger than the rest of the squad, she actually did pretty well before the team's ignominious exit from the early stages from the tournament. Well, you can't win them all, right?

Wrong. Well, at least in Anais' opinion. The small taste of success led her into wanting more, and when the reverse of her situation from years ago happened, with UK scouts coming to the US and Canada, she found herself on the radar of the Holyhead Harpies who were looking for a new beater to replace one of their retiring veterans. An ardent feminist, the concept of the team appealed to her ideals and she signed eagerly. Along with a new British agent, she returned across the ocean and threw herself thoroughly into training for her new team... and into the arms of said manager, if rumours are to be believed.

What is more than rumour, of course, is the Kenmare Kestrels' potion doping scandal. Anais snorted when she first heard of it. If you can't win without doping then you're not talented enough to deserve to play, in her opinion. It's not an outburst she'll have far and wide, but you bet she won't hide it if asked directly.

CURRENT POSITION & TEAM
  • Beater, Holyhead Harpies
  • Beater, Canadian International Team

    PREVIOUS POSITIONS & TEAMS
  • Beater, Haileybury Hammers

    QUIDDITCH IN SCHOOL
  • Beater, Beauxbatons

    RELATIONSHIP WITH THE TEAM
Anais is a reliable teammate - shows up on time, works hard and does as she's told by the coach - and this applies whether you've known her ten minutes or ten years. The longer you've known her, however, the stronger her loyalty. For those people she has played with for years - mostly the Canadian International Squad - she would fight to the end for and this energy translates into her playing style. She hopes for the same closeness with the Harpies, as she has little intention to move sides again anytime soon.

    RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MEDIA
When they play their cards right, Anais loves the press as much as they love her. She is pretty, forthright and gives as good as she gets where interviews are concerned. Always ready with a sharp quip or amusing aside, the feisty redhead is the stuff that Harpy dreams are made of. However, that wit turns terse if the media oversteps its bounds. Ask too personal a question? She will tell off the questioner and cut the interviewer short if needed. Paparazzi stalking her? She'll apparate out as soon as possible and sic her lawyers on them ASAP. Needless to say, the presses in North America have so far seen the benefit of staying on her good side.

    RELATIONSHIP WITH THE FANS
Of course, Anais hasn't had much time for a relationship with the Harpies fans yet, as much as she hopes to form a solid one. Her relationship with fans of the Hammers and Canada, though, is a much more sincere one than that between her and the media. The attention is more of a two way street, and Anais ensures that she spends as much time as is reasonable talking to them, taking pictures and signing things after matches. She has an uncanny knack for being able to leave before her welcome is outstayed, too.
  • QUIDDITCH ABILITIES & SKILLS
Total points: 31 (30 +1 for 5 years professional experience)
    AGILITY → 7
Physical speed is a pretty obvious skill to describe, but what Anais has is speed of mind. She is alert and, as a beater, knows where bludgers are at all times - and you bet she practices endless drills to ensure she times dodging one bludger while hitting another.
    SPEED → 5
Physical speed while on the broom is the one weakness Anais has on the standard list, though she is still a pretty good all rounder. Her sheer height compared to many teammates means there is simply more of her to manipulate around in the air, and one often has to slow down in order to take proper aim with the bat.
    STRENGTH → 7
If a beater isn't physically strong, then they don't last long as a specialist. Anais is tall enough that if she puts her whole body into a hit, as well as her arms and chest, it gives the bludger that little bit of extra oomph.
    TACTICS → 6
As good as the average player, Anais' main thoughts as far as tactics goes are related to her own position as far as that stands. However, if the coaches and captains have particular requirements for her, say to hold back opposition Chasers until a certain point, you bet she can handle that.
    ENDURANCE → 6
Similarly, Anais does the training that is required of her by the coaches when it comes to fitness - extra time is usually skills based. Her endurance, insofar as long matches go, is pretty standard.
