Character Information

Name: Elise Anne Hammond (nee. Hawthorne)
Age/Birthday: 27 (June 2)
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Supernatural Affinity: Witch

Powers:
General- Like those in her personal circle, as the result of more than a hundred generations of very specific breeding, Elise has plenty of dyed-in-the-wool magical talent, which has been fostered and nurtured since as early as she can remember. She has many spells, rituals, incantations, and ingredients memorized and has even dabbled in creating her own over the last few years.

Specialties- Elise has always shown a particular affinity toward curses, both casting them, and breaking them.

Appearance:
Height/Build- 5'5", toned with plenty of curve
Hair/Eyes- Deep oak, kept long and perfectly maintained. Warm, cinnamon brown.
Complexion- Fair skinned, light freckling across the nose, shoulders, and chest.
Ethnicity- English and French, old (well documented) aristocratic bloodlines.
Distinguishing features- None that can be seen by the common eye.
Style- If it doesn't cost at least a hundred times what it's actually worth, Elise won't wear it. Her clothing is hand-picked by personal style consultants and much of it is custom tailored or even made specifically for her. Whether comfortable, casual, or dressed to impress, Elise will always wear something feminine.

Personality:
Traditionalist- She whole heartedly believes in the values and traditions in which she was raised, and is particularly keen on carrying them on. Though Elise may be opinionated and strong-willed, she's never felt the slightest urge to rebel against her family, the coven, or their ways. She is quite happy with the role she was born into, and has no plans to change things.
Sentimental- Unique perhaps, for a woman in her position in life, but Elise has a tendency to find value in the least likely of places- or things, or people. As time moves on, her adoration for what she considers valuable only increases, never fades. In this way, she can be an incredibly loyal friend and deep, compassionate thinker. In others, it can make letting go of something a truly arduous and painful task.
Machiavellian- Though Elise was given practically anything she wanted without much apparent effort (to the outside world), her upbringing was wrought with severe structure, emotionally wracking tests, and borderline abusive expectations. This shaped her mind and emotions into a well-oiled machine for knowing exactly how to get what she wants, regardless of any obstacle- or negative effect on that obstacle.

History: Born in a centuries-old manner house north of Hamshire, England, Elise Hawthorne marked yet another successful product of seven hundred generations of exquisite breeding; the next Crop of elite, blue blooded magic users in a coven known simply as The Circle. Her life, like those in her blood line before her, and those that would come after, was specifically planned out before she was even born. Her position in her monumentally wealthy, connected, and notorious family was already set in stone, and she began walking that path upon taking her first breath.

To the outside world, her childhood was one of privilege and etiquette common of the upper upper crust- but it went much deeper than the plebeian class would ever see. Like her brother, in their private life, the children of the Circle were subjected to tests of mental and magical acuity from the time they turn five. Their educations are paramount in both worlds- the magical and nonmagical. They are taught to be the sharpest sword, the shrewdest leader, and the deadliest weapon, and above all else, maintain absolute and unquestioning loyalty to the coven. Elise excelled at her studies and her tests, and pleased her parents and their coven members by never showing one rebellious thought. She was, essentially, perfect in their eyes. At least, that's what her mother always told her, and Elise was fine with believing it.

Her life was one of steady predictability up until she approached her teenage years, when politics between the Circle and another well established coven began to go sour. The reasons were many, but the blow that finally blew the crack open was an alliance betrayal, perpetrated by Gerard Hawthorne- Elise's great-uncle and the current Master of the Circle. Tensions escalated over seven years from petty sniping to all out murderous warfare. When Gerard was killed in the fray, the opposing coven offered Elise's grandfather- the new Master- a deal; banishment, or annihilation. Because of the Circle's infamously picky traditions on reproduction, their numbers were far fewer than the much larger, if less organized group that threatened them. Elise's father agreed to the banishment, and the Circle moved across the Atlantic to the United States. Elise had just turned eighteen when they decided to settle in the Second City, in hopes of finding a good place to replant their darker roots.

Chicago was perfect.

It still wasn't easy. Though their money and old-world status certainly greased the wheels, Ferdinand Hawthorne was an incredibly patient and meticulous man, and made sure to examine every avenue in their new land to make sure their hold here would be as strong and old as the last had been, before calamity befell them at the hands of his over-ambitious brother. It took several years planting seeds in the higher levels of American society, but soon they began to grow and branch out. The latest was the arranged marriage of Elise, then twenty-two, to a favored son of an American political regime. She wed Colin Hammond after a year-long courtship, which was highly publicized and nearly story-book in it's romantic feel-good nature. But beneath the surface, both parties knew the coupling was a mutually beneficial business venture.

After four years of marriage, though in the public eye they were still very much the new John and Jackie, Colin's ambitious faith in their arrangement began to turn to resentment the more he realized he'd essentially sold himself into the power of the Hawthorne family. Elise's efforts to appease and accommodate her American husband in the arranged marriage have slowly eroded into goading him when he takes his frustration out on her. Now on top of it, her family is pushing for a result of the marriage- specifically, a child. And things will only continue to get more complicated.

Weaknesses:
Elitist- Elise is better than you. She may smile and be friendly, but she is not your friend. You are likely beneath her in all things, and unless you have something she wants or needs, she will not waste much time on appearances with you. Oh, and she's judging you.
Self Centered- Each coven member was bred and born to a specific role in the Circle, and Elise is no different. She knows her own worth, and considering the Circle is practically her entire world, she has difficulty seeing, or caring, what goes on outside it.
Vindictive- Crossing Elise is not a good idea. She not only becomes obsessive with righting any perceived wrongs (either against the coven, those she values, or herself), but she often enjoys it.

Strengths:
Patient- The tests of her childhood have shaped a stillness in Elise's mind that is difficult to match. Combined with her determined nature and knowledge of how effortful magic can be, she is someone who will sit in the shadows and plan while she waits.
Dedicated- She is devoted to her coven and it's ideals. She considers this her highest virtue.
Manipulative- Elise is not only good at pulling people's strings for her own gain, she's quite fond of it, as well.
