While Boromir is arrogant, quick-tempered and impetuous, Faramir is far humbler (partially because his dad kind of hates him and he definitely has lacked warm-fuzzies in his life), gentler, and much more likely to think things through. He has a strong sense of justice, and a great deal of inner strength and resolve. He's one of a very few characters in LotR who isn't tempted by the Ring.
