Relationship History Ruby: Finbar met Ruby in the early summer of 1999. She was hot, he was hot, it was a perfect match, so proposing to her made perfect sense. Turned out it wasn’t. Once they were married, things turned sour, fast. Ruby was convinced Finbar was cheating on her – which he wasn’t – and after she tricked him to admission by Veritaserum, he was about to ask for a divorce when she announced her pregnancy. Although no longer in love with her, Finbar stayed to take care of Ruby and his child. When the boy was born, it was clear that it wasn’t his, and Finbar moved out. After three years of separation – and a lot of harassment from Ruby – he was finally legally allowed to file for divorce. The divorce was finalized in January 2008. Cho Chang: Finbar met Cho in the fall of 2004. Beautiful, smart and business-savvy, it took more than him being a world-famous Quidditch star to make her notice him. She was perfect, in every way, he realized, when she finally let him in. The two have been living together since January 2008 and went on their first public date on Valentine’s day the same year.
Physical Description PB:Alexander Skarsgård General: At 6'4½'' (194 cm) and around 200 lbs (90-95 kg) of muscle, Finbar makes for a rather imposing presence pretty much anywhere he goes. His dark-blond hair is usually neatly groomed and any hair out of place is arranged to be exactly like that, no matter what anyone might say. Height // Build: 6'4½'' (194) // Athletic Hair // Eyes: Dark blond // Blue
Personality First Impression: Either "What an arse!" or "Oh, he's not as bad as they say!" General: Finbar loves people. He loves making friends, and even more so; he loves girls and women. Why? Because surrounding yourself with lots of people brings attention to you. Though any kind of attention is better than none at all, Finbar has figured that he in particular loves the adoring kind of attention, which is why he is always making an effort to better himself, work his hardest, and do his best.
That being said, he's not always successful in this endeavor, and is known to end up intensely annoying if he puts too much effort into it, just like he has a very hard time admitting if he is wrong or mistaken in anything. Finbar was appointed Captain of the Bats because of his abilities make people perform and because he, despite his love of attention, does not have any interest in power games or politics.
Magical Specialties: Arithmancy and Ancient Runes
History Childhood: It was no wonder, really, that Chullainn Téadóir Quigley had an ego to match his name. Being the only – not to mention long-awaited – son to his parents, after seven daughters, he was named after one of Ireland's heroes: Cu Chullainn. Add to that, that Téadóir means 'divine gift', it gives a fairly clear picture of Chullainn's place in his parents' hearts. He was the one to carry on the Quigley name, as well as take over the family estate, outside Knocknahur, Sligo in Ireland, whereas the daughters were to be married off to wizards of proper standards and preferably proper genealogy as well.
Like every other member of his family, young Chullainn was sent to Scotland to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he was sorted into Ravenclaw. He thrived at school, applied himself in his studies, and enjoyed the attention and adoration of his fellow students.
During his seventh year, his eyes caught the fair Hufflepuff Eimer. A beautiful Irish girl, who was a year younger than Chullainn. She, however, wasn't particularly impressed by either Chullainn's charms, background, wealth, or even Chullainn himself. Despite great efforts, it would take Chullainn four years before Eimer would even consider giving him a chance at proving himself. By then, he had proven to her, that he was willing to work hard to get what he wanted, a trait that Eimer found irresistible in a wizard.
From that point in time, things happened fast. Within a couple of months, Chullainn and Eimer were married, and after a year, their son – Ailfrid Diarmaid Quigley – was born. Ailfrid, it turned out, had his father's hunger for knowledge, and his mother's knack for hard work, and soon, he was out of Hogwarts, and well on his way in preparing for his role as the heir of the Quigley estate.
Chullainn and Eimer were happy to see how successful their son was in his endeavours, as they themselves were getting older and preparing for their own roles as the parents behind. They were in their mid-forties, when Eimer was working on the preparations for Ailfrid's upcoming wedding, and her seamstress hinted that she was gaining weight quite a bit faster than what was appropriate for a lady of her position. Despite her efforts to keep the weight-problem from evolving, Eimer wasn't successful, and a week before Ailfrid's wedding, she gave birth to Finbar Dáithí Quigley, a surprise – though far from unwelcome – addition to the family.
Finbar, much like his brother, was hungry for knowledge and eager to learn right from the start. However, he possessed an energy that made it hard for him to sit still for long stretches at a time. During the short periods of time he managed to sit still and read, he managed to pick up everything he read, and when his parents had had enough of him storming and flailing through the manor to release his excess energy, he would be sent outside. One day, his father handed him a bat and told him that if he really had to hit something, he would prefer it to be charmed orbs rather than the antique suits of armour in the hall.
Having seen his father setting the orbs floating and flying about several times, Finbar had picked up the magic behind it, though he was still too young to do it on his own. That changed right after he turned eleven and he had enrolled at Hogwarts. His very first charm cast as a student of the school, was the one to make his orbs fly about, after he had had to sit through the entire sorting ceremony with the following banquet.
Professor Flitwick, his head of House, was very impressed with his immediate skills, and encouraged him to keep working, both on his abilities with charms and spells, as well as his talents with a bat. When it came time for the firstyears to begin practicing flying their brooms, Finbar found yet another way for him to challenge himself and use up his energy.
During classes he was a student that was hard to miss. Always eager for a discussion, he paid attention to what was taught, so as to make sure and have the right arguments in order. Out of class, he applied himself too, immediately learning the system of the library so he wouldn't waste time when searching for information, and always finishing his school work as fast as possible, leaving him more time to work with his broom, orbs and bat, as well as exploring the grounds to find new and better places for… anything, really.
His efforts didn't go unnoticed, and in his second year he took up the position as Beater for Ravenclaw's House team, yet another thing for him to focus his energy on. It paid off, and in his sixth year, he became the Captain of the team.
Adulthood: Finbar left Hogwarts for a career as professional Quidditch player. He had been spotted by and had signed with the Falmouth Falcons. The team never really became his cup of tea. Despite sharing a common ambition for winning, he did not share the temperament of the team, and as soon as the opportunity presented itself, he signed with a different team.
His new team was the Ballycastle Bats, with whom he clicked immediately. Here he found the challenges and opportunities he needed to fully prove himself, and two months before the Quidditch World Cup in 1994, he was chosen for the Irish National Team. This was also the year, he became the Captain for the Bats, a position very suiting of him, as it gives him the opportunity to prove his points, discuss and argue, but most likely because that's where the real limelight is.
In the early summer of 1999, during the celebrations of the Bats winning the final match of the season, Finbar met Ruby. Ruby was smart and sexy, Finbar was hot and fancied himself in love, so he didn't see why he shouldn't propose to her after she had mentioned marriage being part of her 50-year plan, and what better way to start a 50-year plan than on June 24, 2000?
Some would say that marrying a girl with a plan like that is a smart move, though it could be argued that it's not quite as smart doing that, when you only know that that plan starts with marriage. Finbar learned that the hard way, when in 2002 – shortly before his 30th birthday – he was ready to attend the World Cup final with the Irish National Team to show their support for friendly rivals Bulgaria. According to Ruby, Finbar going didn't exactly signal his upcoming retirement to focus on starting and raising a family. This was news to Finbar, who had no plans at all of retiring, at least not within the foreseeable future, little less within a couple of months. So, Finbar went to the World Cup final and Ruby went bat-shit crazy.
Outwardly, Fin did his best to keep up appearances. He put his all into his Beating during training and matches, he interacted, flirted and encouraged fans, participated in charity events, did what his publicist told him to do, and aside from an occasional bitchy attitude, Finbar was for all intents and purposes Finbar. At home, though, it was a completely different matter. At first it was little things, like a shrinking Charm on his protective gear or clipping the bristles of his broom making it unsteady and unpredictable. That stopped when Finbar had all new equipment made and started storing it in a warded vault at his family's mansion. Then it grew stronger. Ruby couldn't contain her bursts of jealousy, which culminated when one evening Finbar found himself obediently answering every single question she asked him – as opposed to his usual dismissal of regular-as-clockwork accusations. None of his answers, however, confirmed her jealousy; Finbar was a flirt, yes, but firm in his belief that a husband simply did not cheat on his wife. Suspicion had him bring the leftovers of his dinner to the team's Healers the next day, where it was quickly established that his wine had been spiked with Veritaserum.
Though the Veritaserum incident had him seriously consider the increasingly recurring thought of divorce, he once again gave her the benefit of the doubt, chalking it up to jealousy, and despite the news not sitting quite right with him, he began ignoring it when Ruby announced her pregnancy to him a couple a month later, supposedly already 12 weeks along. Finbar only having one brother had to some extent always been considered an anomaly, and while Finbar had no desire to raise an entire Quidditch team of his own, he could see himself having at least 3 or 4… eventually. But this just didn't feel right, and as Ruby's pregnancy hormones made her even more unpredictable, Finbar reminded himself, that the least he could do was help Ruby through this. His mood suffered from this, as did his focus and as a result his abilities on the Pitch, leaving many to wonder and speculate what had caused him to lose his edge.
Fortunately, pregnancy hormones has a natural expiration date, and as fate would have it, so did Finbar's patience and Ruby's second chances. Said expiration date came late on the evening of December 3rd, 2003, when the midwife proudly handed Finbar a squealing and squirming baby boy… with an uncanny resemblance to Egyptian Seeker Rawya Zaghloul and a skin tone that a combination of fair-skinned, red-headed Ruby and Finbar could never have produced.
Finbar notified the solicitor to start the timer for the mandatory 4 year separation the following morning upon waking up in his parents' guest house in Knocknahur.
The first couple of weeks were decidedly peaceful, with only the occasionally bitter messages sent via Ruby's solicitor, which Finbar found a nice change of pace as it gave him the peace and quiet to find a large decent sized house overlooking the Sligo Bay. As he began moving his things in, the personal Owls began. One, then two, three or four each day, sometimes as many at fifteen. Usually they were just mild threats, reminding him that she knew where he lived and that she was going to make sure he and his entire family were poorer than church mice once she was done. Sometimes she included personal gifts. Finbar's publicist through the past 5 years quit after she received a dead Kneazle along with a week's worth of dirty diapers through the Floo. His new publicist, Danica, immediately had all Owls rerouted through the DMLE's personal security division.
That, however, didn't discourage Ruby; the harassment continued, increasing in severity until it culminated when Finbar pressed charges after coming home to find his house a smouldering ruin in August 2004. With Ruby in custody for psychiatric evaluation at an undisclosed location in Ireland and little more than 3 years to go before he can file for divorce, Finbar relocated to a nice, Unplottable house on Isle of Dogs in London.
A few months later, Finbar was attending a chess tournament as support for his nephew. Here he met Cho Chang, a witch whom he’d noticed at his niece’s wedding right after he had relocated to London. She had been there as the event manager, he as a guest, and even now, afterwards, it took everything he had to even get her to look in his direction. Not only was she beautiful, she was also a gifted business woman with a mind of her own. How could he possibly resist that? Slowly, he managed to get closer to her, somehow convinced her to let him get to know her, and finally she agreed to go on a date with him. Finbar knew he had met The One. She was everything he could possibly dream of, and rather than just surrender to him like so many other women had done, Cho had him wait until she was ready to let him in.
Two years later, after three years of separation, Finbar could finally file for divorce. His solicitor had had all the paperwork prepared for years, and with a lot of pulled strings, he was able to get the divorce through in a rush. In January 2008, everything was settled, and the minute after the papers were filed, Finbar asked Cho to move in with him. Lucky bastard that he was, she said yes. They went on their first, official, public date on Valentine’s Day, and now he’s waiting for the right time to take the next step with her.
