FIRST IMPRESSION
Roger looks like a dumb jock who doesn't understand most things, which he is okay with.

APPEARANCE
Roger is nothing overly remarkable in the physicality department. He is average height, just under six feet, with an average athletic build with no real special attention paid to beauty muscles or toning. He claims it is because he does not find the point of showing off his body, as it’s his skills that he wants to be known for, but the truth is he is far too fond of salt and vinegar crisps and heavy beers to dedicate himself to the art of being an Adonis. He is healthy, though, and a solid, thick build with long limbs, big hands, and a broad chest. He’s usually seen wearing training clothes unless it is game day, during which he dresses sharply in basic suits, or public events where his sister Natasha is in charge of making him look presentable.

Roger has pale skin littered in tiny freckles all over his face, arms, and chest. Generally anywhere that catches sunlight, as well as a few moles splattered across his back and arms. His brown hair is kept short on the sides and just long enough to style or not on top, though generally, it looks either windswept or like he just woke up. He has small, beady brown eyes that are overshadowed by a heavily brow ridge with little actual eyebrow. His mouth is what is most noticeable now, as it has also changed the most over the year. His former overbite is now a prominent underbite due to several jaw reconstructions and new teeth that have been put in and broken off again. His mouth, due to the damage, does not open widely, and he has developed a bit of a lisp.

PERSONALITYTYPEINFO
PERSONALITY
To anyone who does not know Roger, he seems like the type of person who does not care to know anyone. He is a very quiet person and rarely talks, especially to strangers. His silence is not out of being antisocial or shy. In fact, the man actually likes being around people and being part of social interactions. He simply does not feel like he has much to say and prefers to sit back and watch. He is observant and watches everything that happens around him closely. The man is more likely to go through an entire day without talking than he is not noticing something small that others would miss. He listens to every word people say, and often times picks up on conversations he may not have been intending to hear. The man is forgettable, to most, being passive in the face of anger and torment. He takes a lot in stride and is more than content to let something blow past him. It takes a lot for him to actually get bothered, and once he does, it is not pretty.

Roger communicates almost entirely through his eyes and his actions. He has a mostly-stoic face, which is hard fought to keep that way. His interactions are very dependent on eye contact. He needs to read faces, watch how they blink or where they are looking. The man has more expression in his eyes and the movements of his hands than anything else. If one cannot read his face, then his hands are usually moving, and each movement is unique to an emotion. His fingers tap together when he is awkward, he grasps at invisible things with his fingers when a thought is escaping him, rubs his palms when he is nervous (the harder, the more nervous), clenches and unclenches his fists or shakes them slightly when he is angry, scratches his neck or cheek a lot when he is unsure, wrings them when he is concentrating and pulls at his lip when he is worried. Much like the tail of a dog, his hands are a giveaway to what his face won’t show.

He does not likes letting people in and see how he can be affected. He doesn’t find emotions weak or embarrassing, he simply has no desire to waste anyone’s time. He is a man entirely based on efficiency. He does not like distracting others, and because of that, he is always quick to act and just as quick to leave. He never wants to have someone take the time out to recognize him for things, unless it is immediately important to the task at hand. Roger is mentally programed to work. He only really voices an opinion when it seems like it is important enough. Though not the type to ever want to be in charge, he has a really good eye for strategies and patterns that comes from being a silent observer.

Despite being less than eager to express his ideas, Roger is very smart. He picks up on things and has a great memory for small details. He has interests in just about anything that can be taught to him, and he will never turn down a chance to learn something. Whether it will help in his job field immediately is never a question, because anything could be useful someday. While kids had their games, he had his books, and the guy is okay with that. Most of the things he says are questions about new information. He is also the person who will remember seven months down the road from a vague hint that it is someone’s birthday, even if they are not the nicest to him, and will comment about it.

He has a very explosive anger, which is another reason he tries to stay out of things. Roger, again, is a very passive person and, on top of that, he is not the most intimidating-looking person on build alone. He would much rather allow people to go at him until they are bored than fueling the interaction. When he is finally pushed over the limit, however, there is a very slow and steady progression. It starts with the warning flare of his nostrils and his hands start to make fists before he fronts on someone, then is the explosion—fist or comments. For a smaller guy, his stare is rather unsettling and is usually enough to get the job done, but he does have moments of seeing red. In those moments, he snaps immediately and often forgets what happens because of rage. After an outburst, it’s not uncommon to see him avoid people all together, as he is very ashamed of his inability to control his anger. Much like a small smoldering ember when hit with gasoline, the flashes are violent and bright, but also quick to burn out.

HISTORY
Roger was the second of four children born in Exeter to James Davies, the former 4 time World Cup participant and 7 time championship Chaser on both the Falcons and the Catapults. The man had retired by the time his twin sisters, Natasha and Bridgette were born and instead moved into the coach position of the Arrows. His wife, Martha Davies (nee Brown) was the press secretary to the Minister before because chief of staff for the ministry for several years until the fall of the old regime. He grew up a privileged, spoiled, and with a lot of hopes on his shoulders. And that suited the boy just fine, as he was knew he was to play out his father’s legacy in the future.

He was born and raised in Exeter, Devon, out on the coast. The quiet, removed township made it easy for the pureblood family to keep their heads down and not gain too much attention for their odd ways. They attended Church and shopped among the muggles as best they could to keep up appearance, but their far-removed house and comments of prep school in Scotland kept the nosy nannies at bay when it came to the children. They were not an old name, so the lies of riches would not do the trick, so the art od diversion was their best friend as the boy grew up.

Roger spent much of his formative years in the Ministry’s daycare and subsequent primary schools thanks to his mother’s position. The boy was decent enough in the classes and well-liked by his teachers for paying attention, which was enough to squeak by in this case. It was no shock to his family that, like Chester before him, Roger would show signs of magic and, also like Chester, would be put into Ravenclaw. The boy started school in 1989, a few years behind his brother. The first year was boring, if he were honest, with little to keep him entertained outside of the quidditch world and watching Charlie play, who was a brilliant Seeker. It was his goal, and his father’s of course, to play. And so, all year, he poured himself into learning the ins and outs, as well as watching the team’s practices to learn more.

His Second Year found him on the reserves team, as there was no open spot for him on the main squad, but the last reserve had dropped out, realizing they did not want to touch it out. He practiced with the team and was essentially their ball-boy for Seeker training. All the while, he kept at it with school, both doing well enough to get by, but not too well. He did not want to distract himself with being a tutor, after all, or seem a hopeful candidate for anything other than sports. It was a careful ploy that played out perfectly. His third year saw him on the team as a chaser and his career began.

If you are afraid of failure you don't deserve to be successful.
Then began the strangest few years of his little mind’s life. Puberty was bad enough, the little boy in Gryffindor was really throwing the world off. He was a first year player, which James was quick to point out. The man had even written into Dumbledore to complain about how unfair it was that the boy was given special permission. Then, he was given the top-of-the-line broom as a gift. He was a decent player, sure, with great handling, but not exactly Charlie Weasley. Then he apparently murdered a teacher and was given points for breaking the rules. Roger knew exactly how the next few years would go.

His fourth year had quidditch cancelled halfway through the season with his prefect and a number of other students petrified. Third year had them taken over by dementors with a crazed killer sneaking in and out. Both should have been years where Roger was more concerned about backne and his voice still cracking, but instead, it was constant chatter and gossip about the strange world Hogwarts had become. And all the while, his father breathing down his neck. When would the championship be theirs? When would he win? Why hadn’t they heard from scouts yet? His Sixth Year was a reprieve because the lack of quidditch was not his fault and he was able to be a student again.

He flirted with the girls, dated Fleur who had chosen him because he was the prettiest and had thus far been the least obnoxious, though she kept flaring out her charm to keep him interested in her and not Cho, who he actually had a crush on, and even low-key debated if he wanted to quit quidditch all together and do something else. That changed drastically when Cedric was brought back, and the long period of denial began.

Roger asked out Cho a few months later, to no avail. He rebounded with a new girlfriend for the rest of his seventh year, once again failed to bring home the championship to his disappointed father, and finished school with no immediate inquiries to play for a team, unlike Oliver Wood—which his father pointed out. So, Roger played in the junior leagues out of Manchester for a season before getting called to the major leagues with the Falcons. His minor league year was spent partying and drinking. He had a lot of trauma to work through from his dead best mate being brought back to the school by Harry Perfection. He did it by living, though living too hard. It slowed in the 1997-1998 seasons thanks to the constant threat. However, the drinking did not. More often than not, Roger was at practice hungover from the night before, fearfully listening to the names of people missing or dead.

Nobody has given his best and regretted it.
Then the war happened. Then Bridgette died in Hogwarts, defending the castle. Then the regime that killed his baby sister in front of her twin took over. And Roger fell back down the hole. For three years, Roger was known as the playboy of the sports world, truly living up to the Falcons’ reputation as troublemakers. He caused scenes, had a train wreck of a personal life, and his friends knew the depression spiral from a mile away. He’d driven his career into the ground if not for the bludger to the face in the finals of the 2004 Autumn season that saw him fall 70 feet with an incorrect feather fall spell. He landed with a face needing reconstructive surgery, his ribs broken, and his pelvis shattered.

For a year, Roger sat out from sports and watched. He watched the halfbloods loose their freedom. He walked through the slums for the first time and saw their world in ruins. He watched the fires burn and the people suffer. The rose-colored glasses were gone, and he was not sure where to pick up the pieces. If not for his sister, Roger doubts if he’d have been able to make the changes needed to save his life and career. He returned the 2005 Autumn Season for his final year with the Falcons, playing 9 of the 13 regular season matches and two of the playoff matches. The next year he was traded to the Wasps for a season, then given to Pride of Portree in time for the 2006 Autumn.

Pride of Portree was the light at the end of the tunnel for Roger. The compassionate staff and strong team built him a safety net where he would grow and adjust to the world that actually existed. By the championship season of ’08, Roger was mad alternate captain. He would take over the captaincy in 2010 when Moran finally retired with a respectable 26 seasons with one team. He had chosen Roger personally, saying the man is the heart of quidditch and the true pride of Portree. Since then, the man has been a philanthropist and a model citizen. He has painstakingly rocked the boat just enough to cause waves, but not enough to get him tanked from the team. He sees the desolation of his country and won’t sit quietly by any longer.
