Key Facts about their History:

• Born late 1945, Clara was named after the famous silent movie star that her mother idolised to Edward and Elizabeth Bailey. She was the first and only child for the longest of times. Her mother was barely out of her teenage years when she gave birth to Clara, all hopes of having a career of her own dashed in the post-war era.
• Her parents did not have a happy marriage, after Clara despite trying again and again they seemed destined to never have another baby. Clara’s father walked out on them when her mother couldn’t give him what he wanted, which was a small army of children. She was eleven when he left them, leaving Clara’s mother to work two jobs in order to make ends meet, even so, Clara largely wanted for nothing, her mother making sure to take care to ensure her daughter never felt that they were struggling.
• She discovered that the supernatural was real a few years following her parents’ separation; her mother got together with a Fae and had a child who was clearly not fully human, neither was the father. She was in her early twenties when she discovered this and avidly went to research further into this brave new world she was discovering.
• In 1970, she discovered a nearby donor club where they paid her to allow vampires to drink from her. She was nervous at first, but she was in need of money. Her mother’s second husband had left, taking the baby with him and her mother didn’t have enough income to keep up with the household bills. This seemed as good-a way as any of making money.
• She became a regular, going to the donor club three to four times a week and made good money, not only being easy on the eye but her blood was quite popular, being that it was A+, sweeter on the palette than the O variety.
• Everything changed for her though one fateful day; she was turned in 1982 when a vampire took a little too much blood from her, the rules at the time said that they weren’t allowed to kill anyone but said nothing about turning. In order to avoid having murdered her the vampire turned her instead.
• When she awoke from the turning, she was hungry – hungrier than she’d ever been – and the food that she’d eaten seemed hardly enough to satisfy her. In fact, human food did nothing and it was only after she had raided the pantry that the man who turned her – one of the regulars she fed from – arrived back to tell her what had happened and what he had done. She was furious, and her temper knew no bounds at first but after he took her yelling and screaming at him that he had stolen my life, she was willing to listen and learn as he taught her the ways of the world that she was now a part of. In order to separate her from her mother – an action which was very difficult for her – her sire moved them away from her home in Los Angeles to New Mexico
• It took her a decade to fully learn how to control herself and her hunger, and by 1994 she worked with the Human Protection Unit in New Mexico (their version of the CPD)
• Bored of New Mexico, and needing to move on due to humans starting to question her age, Clara moved to New York where she settled herself down and was transferred into the CPD, working with Tess Toma, whom she worked under until 2014 when she received a call that her mother’s health – that Clara paid for anonymously – was rapidly declining.
• Despite being told not, she flew home to Los Angeles and visited her dying mother in the care home she had been placed in. Her mother, who through old age and deteriorating health, was hardly surprised to see her daughter; dementia had made it so that she had forgotten Clara’s “death”. It meant that Clara got to say goodbye and tell her mother that she loved her. Clara stayed – telling the staff she was a granddaughter – until her mother passed in April 2015.
• After taking some time to pull herself back together and mourn the loss of her mother, Clara returned to New York and picked up where she left off in new rented accommodation (having taken her stuff out of storage and moved it into a new place) and apparently a new team leader since Tess had moved on, where she’s continued to just sort of keep to herself and get on with her job.
